Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Has AOC surpassed the Trump's twittering record yet?
angelo, why don't you do some research? Show us all what a great work ethic you have.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "Two years ago today, I went from waitress and organizer to winning a Congressional primary while outspent 10-1.
Every day since I’ve tried to do right by working families & the movement that made it happen. Corrupt interests haven’t had a good night’s sleep since😉
Thank you 💜 https://t.co/5Yv1jYDEB5" / Twitter

AOC recently Instagrammed on that issue. She said that her big margin of victory was important because it gave her a mandate to continue with her activism while in office. To continue even if it involves taking political risks. So she doesn't have to worry very much about hurting her political career.

Hasan and AOC Discuss The Green New Deal | Patriot Act Digital Exclusive | Netflix - YouTube - AOC explained how some of her colleagues refuse to believe that climate change is happening, like someone who brought in a snowball. She notes that some of her colleagues seem bought by the fossil-fuel business. Her solution: elect more climate-change-accepting Congresspeople. Like what her PAC Courage to Change tries to do.

Then the justice angle. Climate change will more strongly affect the more vulnerable communities. Things like DAPL being routed away from near Bismarck ND to near Standing Rock Reservation. How to get good pay: labor unions. Who isn't: fossil-fuel lobbyists and lots of other big-business ones.

When AOC rolled out her GND for public housing, several housing activists spoke at the event -- and no CEO's of building-repair companies.

She then said that the GND needs Dem majorities in the House and the Senate and a Dem as President. The GND is a resolution: (1) phasing out fossil fuels, (2) creating lots of jobs, and (3) paying extra attention to vulnerable communities. Some bits of GND legislation have already come out, like GND for public housing, support for electric vehicles, and the like. HM: sort of like getting his daughter to eat broccoli by cutting it up into little pieces. Sort of like how lobbyists work: sneaking little bits and pieces into big pieces of legislation.

Then a cutesy book proposal: "AOC: the Art of the Clapback" with whimsical chapter titles like "14 Ways to Absolutely Own Scott Walker".

Here are how all the CTC candidates have performed in the primaries, and I've attempted to assess their prospects for winning the main elections.
  • Georgette Gomez CA-53 :) -- tossup
  • Nabilah Islam GA-07 :(
  • Marie Newman IL-03 :) -- likely win
  • Kara Eastman NE-02 :) -- tossup
  • Teresa Leger Fernandez NM-03 :) -- likely win
  • AOC herself NY-14 :) -- likely win
  • Samelys Lopez NY-15 :(
  • Jamaal Bowman NY-16 :) -- likely win
  • Mondaire Jones NY-17 :) -- likely win
  • Jessica Cisneros TX-28 :(
  • Cristina Tzintzun Ramirez TX-SEN :(
So out of these 11 candidates, 8 have won their primaries, and 6 are likely to win their main elections.

I found this from February. Up to then it seems she's out twitted the Trump!

angelo, I don't think that you read that article very carefully.

How Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez beats Trump at his Twitter game - The National - February 13, 2019
Within eight months, she's gained more than 2.6 million followers on Twitter alone. And while President Trump has 58.2 million followers, Ocasio-Cortez has a much higher engagement. Her 2.8 per cent overshadows Trump's meagre 0.2 per cent (the same as Hillary Clinton, incidentally), The Guardian reports.

In fact, she's seen a 600 per cent increase in Twitter followers since June 2018.

Why? Because she speaks the language of this generation. And that is very, very rare.
So Trump is likely ahead in Twitter followers, and likely also in tweets.

Finally, Courage to Change has another endorsee: Charles Booker, KY-SEN. He is challenging Amy McGrath for the Democratic Senate nomination, and the two are now neck-and-neck. AOC also endorses Ed Markey, MA-SEN, and Green New Deal cosponsor.

  • Georgette Gomez CA-53 :) -- tossup -- open seat
  • Nabilah Islam GA-07 :( -- open seat
  • Marie Newman IL-03 :) -- likely win -- primary vs. incumbent
  • Charles Booker KY-SEN -- undecided -- main vs. incumbent
  • Ed Markey MA-SEN -- not yet -- incumbent
  • Kara Eastman NE-02 :) -- tossup -- main vs. incumbent
  • Teresa Leger Fernandez NM-03 :) -- likely win -- open seat
  • Jerrold Nadler NY-10 :) -- likely win -- incumbent
  • AOC herself NY-14 :) -- likely win -- incumbent
  • Samelys Lopez NY-15 :( -- open seat
  • Jamaal Bowman NY-16 :) -- likely win -- primary vs. incumbent
  • Mondaire Jones NY-17 :) -- likely win -- open seat
  • Jessica Cisneros TX-28 :( -- primary vs. incumbent
  • Cristina Tzintzun Ramirez TX-SEN :( -- main vs. incumbent
Let's see if she's mainly primarying Democratic incumbents -- how she got into office.
  • Incumbent -- 2
  • Primary vs. incumbent -- 3
  • Open seat -- 5
  • Main vs. incumbent -- 3

That's what I meant by " out twitted" the Trump.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "When you speak truth to power, power fights back.
Lobbyists & conservatives have been pouring millions of dollars against our sisterhood’s re-election campaigns.
Why? Because we’re effective. Join the Squad Victory Fund to protect the fight for justice: https://t.co/qcIJN79JPH" / Twitter

The donations page says "Paid for by The Squad Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee authorized by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress, Ilhan for Congress, The Committee to Elect Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib for Congress, Courage to Change, Inspiring Leadership Has a Name PAC, Power of Us PAC, and Rooted in Community Leadership PAC."
  • AOC: Courage to Change PAC - Courage to Change - several endorsements
  • IO: Inspiring Leadership Has a Name PAC - (no known home page)
  • AP: Power of Us PAC - HOME | Power of Us - no endorsements
  • RT: Rooted in Community Leadership PAC - (no known home page)
AP's PAC site doesn't seem to say very much. AOC's one seems much more businesslike, explaining what sorts of candidates that it seeks to support.

Dave Weigel on Twitter: "Some of the advertising against Oklahoma's Medicaid expansion measure centered @AOC, warning that "radicals like" her would get "more control over Oklahoma's health care."
The measure passed, which I believe makes AOC the biggest health insurer in Oklahoma. https://t.co/xLG3tbgMGY" / Twitter

then
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "How’s that “anti-AOC” advertising going, Oklahoma GOP?
Oh, it ended with voters supporting Medicaid expansion? Nice. 😊" / Twitter

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the subject of another hoax right-wing attack, gets the last laugh again | Salon.com - this fake tweet:
It’s vital that Governors maintain restrictions on businesses until after the November Elections because economic recovery will help Trump be re-elected. A few business closures or job losses is a small price to pay to be free from his presidency. #KeepUsClosed
Then
The tweet's lack of authenticity is obvious for a number of reasons. First, Ocasio-Cortez has expressed a great deal of compassion for small businesses and the unemployed during the coronavirus pandemic — she hardly views them as collateral damage in the war against Trump. Second, it isn't even her writing style.

The writing style of the fake tweet, according to Kleefeld, has a Trump-like quality. Kleefeld writes: "It might also be worth pointing out that the purported Ocasio-Cortez tweet exhibited the kind of irregular capitalization often employed by Trump — perhaps inspiring his devotees to do the same — rather than what is typically found on the representative's own account."

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "Guess who’s repeal of the Faircloth Amendment just passed the House! 😌
Faircloth has blocked construction of new public housing in the United States for 20+ YEARS. Repeal is key to tackling our housing crisis.
THANK YOU to the advocates who‘ve worked so hard to get here. https://t.co/JkcJvNBr72" / Twitter

I had the unbelievable honor to film NY14 in the weeks leading up to @aoc’s 2020 landslide reelection. I witnessed the quiet unfolding of pride, the sweet pops of the curious, the booming fireworks of excitement, the rumble of Now and Next sweeping us up.

The camera has never felt more like an instrument of magic. The first day I carefully emerged, masked and sneaking around the corner of quarantine, I spent a few hours shooting and I was jittery with joy to be doing what I love. Joy, in these fighting days, joy, in these rushing days, joy, in these blurred and spiked and crushing and lifting days. We’ve all been churning in a crowd, and we just realized the force of moving it as one.

So I wanted to memorialize, to hold onto the rebellion in joy, to create a reminder of victory in the long demands of progress, a reminder to use lightness as a tool for the heavy building projects we’ve undertaken.

Will he release a documentary on it?

AOC: ‘Defund the Police looks like a Suburb’ : AOC I will quote her words:
The good news is that it actually doesn't take ton of imagination.

It looks like a suburb. Affluent white communities already live in a world where they choose to fund youth, health, housing, etc more than they fund police. These communities have lower crime rates not because they have more police, but bc they have more resources to support healthy society in way that reduces crime.

When a teenager or preteen does something harmful in a suburb (I say teen bc this is often where lifelong carceral cycles begin for Black and Brown communities) White communities bend over backwards to find alternatives to incarceration for their loved ones to "protect their future" like community service or rehab or restorative measures. Why don't we treat Black and Brown people the same way? Why doesn't the criminal system care about Black teens' futures the way they care for White teens' futures? Why doesn't the news use Black people's graduation or family photos in stories they way they do when they cover White people (eg Brock Turner) who commit harmful crimes? Affluent White suburbs also design their own lives so that they walk through the world without having much interruption or interaction with police at all aside from community events and speeding tickets (and many of these communities try to reduce those, too!)

Just starting THERE would be a dramatically and radically different world than what we are experiencing now.
In effect, suburbs are "low-crime" because suburbanites keep a lot of criminal acts from becoming officially recognized as crimes and becoming listed in the crime statistics.

Julia Salazar on Instagram: “Another month has come and gone, and millions of people still have no idea how they’ll afford to pay rent. …”
Cake with "cancel rent" written on it.
Another month has come and gone, and millions of people still have no idea how they’ll afford to pay rent. We cannot expect tenants to pay off thousands in housing debt that they’ve accrued during this crisis, and we cannot expect small homeowners to absorb the costs of lost rental income. The only moral and economically sound solution is to cancel rent and mortgage payments throughout the duration of this public health emergency. With my Relief for All bill we can cancel rent and mortgage payments for tenants, businesses, and small homeowners impacted by this crisis. Anything less than a suspension of rent and mortgage payments for New Yorkers is a recipe for yet another major social and economic catastrophe.

Behind recent Congressional Progressive Caucus wins, Rep. Ilhan Omar counts the votes | MinnPost - she's the whip of[q the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
The job of whip takes a significant amount of skill and relationship building. Omar needs to drum up support for the caucus line. In order to do that, she needs to learn who is going to vote for legislation, who is going to vote against it, and why they’re going to vote that way. And in order to do that, she needs to spend time directly building rapport with representatives around the country, understanding their districts, and understanding where they are in terms of legislative priorities.

Omar said that when she is operating as whip, her priority is making sure that the Progressive Caucus has the votes for whatever piece of legislation it has prioritized: “In a whip operation, we don’t really get to have an opinion on where we’re pushing people.”

Of course she believes in the socialist utopia where police would not be required as everyone is equally poor or wanting for anything. Such a world only exists her fertile juvenile brain.

That was what AOC is arguing -- and what some other people argue. I concede that the plural of anecdote is not data, but it's hard for me to find good numbers on how many crimes committed by people in affluent neighborhoods are kept from the notice of the criminal justice system, how many criminals avoid what is presumably the justice that they ought to suffer. Like the likes of Brock Turner.

I think that it's far more likely that crimes in suburban areas are less due to less poverty, higher average ages in suburban areas, higher police/security to citizen ratios, and etc.
