"Allah is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam"

We should not sell arms to anybody who is fighting enemies we are not (directly) fighting? Strikes me as a very restrictive policy.
Duh. No shit, Sherlock.

Restrictive <> bad.
Then I guess US should not have been arming the Brits before Germany declared war on US? If we follow the Bilby Doctrine to the letter, that would have been the outcome.
Fucking right they shouldn't.

They should have been at war with Germany.

When all your regional allies but one have been invaded, occupied and are being systematically looted and 'ethnically cleansed', it's long past time to declare war.

When one of your regional allies, that's perfectly capable of defending herself, and that has recently been involved in an attack on your nation, is bullying a neighbour in a proxy war against another nation with whom you have no bigger grievances, it's long past time to stop selling them arms, and to seriously reconsider your status as their ally.
Much less allies who are fighting Iranian proxies. Particularly if that fighting is effectively shutting down humanitarian aid to people who genuinely need it.

I agree Yemen needs aid. Condoms and birth control pills first and foremost.
And the apparently-totally-not-terrorist Houthis are the ones diverting aid.
I do not see how letting the entire country fall under the yoke of the Houthis is going to help anything.
Do you also not see how dropping bombs on people drives them to support extremists who they otherwise might have shunned? Or are non-Americans just cartoonish characters without strong motivations of their own in your view?
Fuck the US and her proxy wars. You're big enough and bad enough to fight any dozen other armed forces on the whole fucking planet at the same time. So shit, or get off the pot. If you have a valid casus belli, go to war. If not, butt the fuck out.

I think US should intervene in Yemen directly. I also think taking out Iranian nuclear facilities and IRGC assets would be a legitimate use of armed force.
You are preaching to the choir! But alas, that is not politically possible right now.
Then by definition (in a democracy) it's a bad idea.
The poor bloody Yemenis don't need your half-baked allies dropping 'made in USA' ordinance on their heads.

Because letting the Houthis win would be so much better?
Better than being bombed? Probably.
Especially since it would destabilize the entire region and may even lead to Iran invading Saudi Arabia once they have a beachhead on the Peninsula.
That's a wild and crazy fantasy. Iran has shown no interest in invading anyone.
If the Saudis want to bomb their neighbours, let them make their own fucking bombs.

Or maybe they can buy them elsewhere, with those other countries making those profits.
Sure. If something's immoral, that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, because if you don't, someone else will.

That's why you should rob people who appear weaker than you. After all, if you don't steal his wallet, somebody else will, so you might as well be the one to benefit, right?
Biden is babbling about "Buy American" but he doesn't even want to "Sell American" ...

Not everything is for sale. Not everything should be for sale. And the USA is wealthy enough to survive just fine without selling arms to scumbag theocrats of any kind.

Oh yeah I wonder why there is bad blood between US and the weirdbeards ...
That was over 40 years ago. The fact is that there is much potential mutual benefit for both countries if we got over this pointless posturing and fear-mongering.

Don't you know that we do not become allies with scumbag theocrats!!!! Really, why do you hate America so much?

Over 40 years ago? We have right wingnut Americans still all butt hurt over the Confederacy losing the Civil War 151 years ago. Crying fat salty tears because the statues of Confederate general are being removed from public land, and confederate flags can no longer be bought at Walmart.

Apparently in addition to being evil for being an atheist, and a pedophile-supportin' communist, and (more recently) an anti-semite, I'm also now a terrorist sympathizer too. Man, I just can't win.

You're right, I forgot that one too.

Anyway, time to go BBQ some kittens. I do love the sounds they make when they're on the grill.

While we're at it I'll go grill some Nazis too. Mmmmm. Nazis.

"Allah is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam"

What a bunch of un-original morons.
Like we weren't going to notice how they stole
"Trump is the Greatest, Death to Pence, Death to Pelosi, Curse on the Democrats, Victory to Patriots!"
from us.

Why do you enjoy murdering the poor little babies!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!1!!!!!!

It's ok to kill them, but only if you're going to eat them. :)

There is no genocide in Yemen. There is a civil war started by Houthis (Iranian proxies).

You're conveniently cutting off history where you want.

The reality is that Yemen has been a Sunni/Shia battleground for a long time. The Houthis are simply the latest incarnation of a long-running war. Both sides are very, very bad.

Iran still seeks conquest by force of arms and seeks nuclear weapons to prevent blowback from their actions--they don't want to get smashed when their pet terrorists pull off the next 9/11 or worse.

Can you provide some links to support your claims or is this all classified information you have access to?

Psssst, I hate to interrupt because it seems like you are on a roll, but it was Saudi terrorists who did 9/11. Now, go get em!

To be fair, Iranian terrorists could very well also attack the US the same way the Saudis did.

But then, American terrorists just attacked America only a month ago, and we still haven't really done anything about that beyond going after the low people on that totem pole, and our own senate is apparently close to 45% complicit in the attack. And they were the ones being attacked.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed. And with slightly less likelihood, Islamic terrorists from Tau Ceti could attack the US in the same way the Saudis did.

The fact remains that it was Saudi terrorists who actually did it, yet LP seems more concerned about Iranian terrorists doing again what they did not do to begin with.

Yeah. That's where I was going with it. Not Tau Ceti in particular but rather that the issue comes down to the whole region being a dumpster fire that we need to develop an energy strategy to be independent from, and that we need to just share that energy strategy openly so everyone else can be independent from it, too. Let them languish in their failure to diversify and educate their populations.

Just look at your newspaper--see how much of the trouble in the Middle East is due to Iranian weapons.

I didn't say Iran was behind 9/11. They're behind an awful lot of other terrorism, though. Afghanistan was a wake-up call for the terrorist sponsors--anger us enough and we will come stomp on the sponsors.
