"Any growing interest in soccer can only be a sign of the nation's moral decay. Individual achievement is not a big factor in soccer. In a real sport, players fumble passes, throw bricks and drop fly balls — all in front of a crowd. When baseball players strike out, they're standing alone at the plate. But there's also individual glory in home runs, touchdowns and slam-dunks. In soccer, the blame is dispersed and almost no one scores anyway. There are no heroes, no losers, no accountability, and no child's fragile self-esteem is bruised. There's a reason perpetually alarmed women are called 'soccer moms', not 'football moms.' If more 'Americans' are watching soccer today, it's only because of the demographic switch effected by Teddy Kennedy's 1965 immigration law. I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.

So this is what they were talking about on the radio today. I didn't catch the first part.

Damn, it must be hard to marked as irrelevant and unimportant in the prime of life. Sadder still if all you have to offer is sound and fury signifying nothing.

Oh, did someone not talk about Ann Coulter this week? Time for a Me! Me! Me! Rant related to a current topic so that due can sound relevant.

Hey! Athena ninja posted me with the same point!

Ann must not understand American Football. You're not going to score Touchdowns without the help of others on your team. Sure that receiver who made the great catch in the end zone for the score gets the spotlight, but so does the quarterback that threw the pass to him. Those offensive linemen and backs who picked up the pass rush kept the quarterback upright so he could throw the pass also are necessary. Without the work of all 11 players (or 12 if it's the CFL) the touchdown likely doesn't happen.

One of my great grandfathers was born in this country (and fought for the Union in the Civil War) and I watch soccer. But, then I have known for a long time that Ann Coulter is a troll, dude.

Have pity.

What a life, when every meaningless shadow is some incredible threat.

What's funny, it's that around here, football is criticized for being a sport too focused on individual glory. Where, (granted, provided his team is not too shabby compared to the opposition), one good (or lucky) player can change a play course by surprising the opposition defence and scoring a goal. Or one bad (or unlucky) goalkeeper change a play course by fumbling a save.
Rugby union is what is supposed to highlight great teamplay...

Oui , oui and oui again! I wonder whether she is going to produce a similar rant for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. I mean surely she ought to whine about all those "new Americans" rugby fans of Italian, French, Japanese (she will have a planetoid cow over the 2019 Cup in Japan), Argentinian, Georgian, Romanian, Oceania (Tonga), South African origins....In view of her remark " in addition to learning English", I left out 2015 participating nations whose official/de jure language is English.

And because I am a girl, I can get away with this comment : IMO she needs to get laid. hehehehehe.

I've never really liked sports but now that Ann Coulter has made it clear that soccer is much classier and interesting than I thought, I might start following it.

Amazing how the most arbitrary non-issue can inspire a seething hate fest in a xenophobic mind.

Not surprising she'd be so attached to American football. It's the stupidest and most pretentious of all sports.

She's entitled to her opinion about the value of any or all sports. However, as the saying goes, she's not entitled to her own facts. The fact is, 3 of my 4 great grandfathers were born on U.S. soil as have been most of my forebears since before it was U.S. soil and I have watched some of the matches. Same thing for my kids who also have 3 of their 4 great grandfathers (and before them) born on U.S. soil. At least 3 of them have watched at least some of the matches. In fact, I guarantee that if there is a match being played at this moment*, one of my kids is watching.

Of course she knows it's a ludicrous claim and likely made it just to generate buzz around one of her bon mots.

*Now, I said I've watched some of the matches but only because my husband and/or kid was watching. Unless it is being watched in my family room, I actually have no idea when any of the matches are being played because I just don't pay that much attention. I am not much of a fan but that has not stopped me from forming opinions. My opinion is that soccer players are far better looking, as a group, than any other sports players (as a group).

Apparently Ann Coulter has never watched a soccer game in his life if he thinks that is is any different than any other team sport in terms of both necessary team effort and individual glory.

What's funny, once again, is that here in Western Europe (or in Argentina or South Africa), football isn't seen as the classy sport. Football is the cheap sport that you only need a ball and a square of dirt to play, and with a star system that make poor and immigrant kids dream of.
The elite pay for nice lawns to play rugby union on, and are fine with only being recognized between themselves.

Plus the fact that the games rules themselves, forbidding physical aggression while not forbidding physical contact (difficult to do when several people try to get their feet on a single ball at the same time), then to reward a lot of underhanded foul play or acting.
The English have a saying: "football is a gentlemen's game played by thugs, while rugby is a thugs' game played by gentlemen".

Soccer is a threat to our national security. How many lovers of soccer are socialists? How many are lovers of Chavez or Che Guevara?

Hey Ann, is that why in an individual sport like say for example tennis, the US has no players in the worlds top ten and just 1 player in the worlds top 65.

That pretty embarrassing for a country the size of the US don't you think Ann.

And guess where most of those players in the worlds top 65 are from, that right Europe, where soccer is by far the most popular sport.

Ann Coulter has made a career out of trolling and rest assured her next misinformed, ignorant and outrageous article will be along shortly. I wouldn't have started this thread about her as you are just giving publicity to her trolling.

But at least she gave us here in Europe a good laugh with her incredible ignorance of soccer.

She is wrong about soccer. It is a wonderful, beautiful sport. It is a combination of teamwork and individual brilliance.

Some goals are the result of a slow build up of team pressure over many minutes. You can feel it coming as the team probes the defense for the weakness that will allow the half yard of space need to get behind the defense.

Some goals are strikes out of the blue, a split second of brilliance from one or two individuals.

There are goals that people will remember and talk about their whole lives.

And yes, there aren't many goals in the professional game. But each one takes something extraordinary to produce, even if it is an unexplainable breakdown in the defense.

And these extraordinary moments come more frequently in soccer than in any other sport.

LOL...I've got several ties back to the Mayflower, and I also prefer soccer over sports like baseball and basketball (not that I watch much sports at all). I generally find watching someone else play athletic games a waste of my time...If I have that much free time, then I'd rather be doing something active myself. Greatgrandfather....try about 12 generations Ann.
