Another Fucking Mass Shooting At US School

I get Derec's ironic point. After all, it is people like Derec and the NRA because they support maniacal SCOTUS decisions that expand 2nd amendment rights which make easy to legally obtain a fire arms and fight against reasonable Constitutional restrictions.
I have been consistent in supporting common sense restrictions on gun ownership.

What I disagree with are those who want to (effectively) ban private gun ownership, and/or those who want to make it illegal to use firearms for self-defense, including in your home.

I need to know my username and password (typical). And then I need to own a cell phone, have it on me, to receive a text message code to get into my account.

You can just get a weapon on the street. It isn't legal, but so isn't murder.
It's easier to get drugs than pay a utility bill. It's easier to get laid than pay a utility bill.

One thing is certain: that firearm, no matter how many hands it passed through, ultimately traces back to a legal point of origin.
Most of the time. But with ghost guns and the like, that is not true.
Edit: Let’s stop pussyfooting around this. As long as firearms are being manufactured and remain legal, there’s no realistic way to keep them entirely out of criminal hands. If you’re comfortable with them being legal, then you’re also accepting the reality that some will end up in the wrong hands. The two go hand in hand.
It's not all or nothing. We can reduce the danger of illegal guns without banning them for law-abiding citizens. Could the Shreveport shooting have been prevented, and how? We would need to know more details, including how he got the gun(s). Hence my non-rhetorical question.

Mass/school shootings happen even in countries with very strict gun laws. You can never eliminate the residual risk.

As though this hasn't been responded to ad nauseum.

Indeed, but my reply was in direct response to Gospel.
Specifically, this:

Even where guns are mostly illegal for private use, some firearms end up in the wrong hands.

So you support banning the private ownership of automatic or semi-automatic weapons?

Since 2000 there have been 642 school shootings in USA. 24.7 shootings/pa. One every 2 weeks.
Since 1978 there have been 60 school shootings in Türkiye. 1.27 shootings/pa. One every year.

Türkiye has a problem. USA has a cataclysm.

As noted you can never eliminate the residual risk but the USA doesn't even appear to be trying.

No you see both situations sre exactly the same even though they're drastically different.

I’ll rephrase this, since you keep acting like I’m arguing for a total ban, which I haven’t said at any point. Most illegal guns originate from legal markets. That means any policy that keeps firearms widely available has to account for that leakage. You can argue the trade-off is worth it, but you can’t pretend the connection doesn’t exist. You own that trade-off. Ain’t nobody ask you to hit that boring and seen a billion times ‘mass shooter macro hotkey, relax.

He got the gun from a felon who had it illegally.

Registration of ammunition?
Mental health checks?
Waiting periods?

Well there you have it. Criminals will commit crimes. Nothing to be done about it. Arm up before “they” do!

The problem isn't merely the "wrong hands", it is how many "wrong hands" they end up in.

A predictable outcome. The legal landscape encourages the proliferation of guns. “Wrong Hands” are not exceptionally common in the USA.
GUNS are exceptionally common in the USA.
So of course, so are gun deaths.
Derec can blather all he wants about “wrong hands”, but the facts are clear.
It’s IMPOSSIBLE to mitigate the existence of “wrong hands”. The only effective way to reduce gun deaths has PROVEN to be to reduce guns.

Keep going. Good start.

Keep going.
Well, I really like the mass buyback thing, but let’s face it; we will never prevent premeditated shootings. We can, however, curtail impulse shootings to at least some small extent.
I wonder how Au is dealing with problems of “kit” guns, 3D printed guns etc.

The 3D guns are starting to appear on the scene.
