They were accused of crimes and/or gang affliliation without being allowed to contest the accusations in a court. Many likely are guilty of the charges but that is irrelevant since they were denied due process. From the early stories coming out, some may very well be innocent.

Some may also have been previously convicted, but we are in the dark here since no details about the individuals involved have been released. But if that is true, then they wouldn't need this supposed authority of the AEA. They could easily be deported using normal processes.

The courts are pushing back, but sadly it would seem they won't have the means of enforcement.
