Ashley Madison hack

I find it strange that there are so many different degrees of murder and manslaughter, but not many degrees of statutory rape or child molestation. Having the same punishment for a 22 year old with a 16 year old as a 30 year old compared to a 12 year old makes no sense.

Our sex offender laws are in desperate need of updating. Take this story for example. The judge in this case was a real douche.

.
Also, have the accounts in question been conclusively linked to him?.
Yes.
He has issued a statement admitting it.

High School vs Grade school isn't close in age.
Labels are really important! I'm glad you are keeping us straight on this proper term for the sex offender.

Some of the girls were quite close to his age which was about 14. Too young to have consensual sex himself. I don't think of him as a pedophile, although he was clearly very wrong, inappropriate, he as and likely is still very confused about sex and sexuality.

Agreed. I don't think he's a pedophile, just someone fucked up sexually. I wouldn't be one bit surprised to learn that he is the victim of a pedophile, though.

FWIW, I think the Duggar parents attempted to do the right thing by getting counseling for all involved. They also took some steps to prevent further incidents . I don't have much or really any sympathy for the parents except that any parent would be overwhelmed, and aghast at the situation. They let their ideology dictate their solutions. If we are honest, we all do. I despise their ideology which helped create the situation.

No--they acted way too late. Counseling was right (not that they picked the right counselor!) but it should have been done on the first allegations.

And at least one was in grade school and not close to his age. There is still reason to be the youngest was also involved.

I think he wasn't seeking out by age, but rather by availability.

And treating it the same when the younger partner was the initiator, even to the extent of lying about their age to get sex.

Maybe. Maybe not. Repressed, for certain. Naive, and ill informed.

I think he wasn't seeking out by age, but rather by availability.

Availability, yes. But it's hard to overlook the sense of entitlement that he was raised to believe that males have over females, especially at his age at the time.

Please note: all my lack of condemnation disappears if this behavior continued when he was older. Every single bit.

It's not uncommon for kids and very young adolescents to try to sneak peeks or even try to touch. Sometimes more. There's a different layer to it when there is force or coercion or fear used. He sneaked in while the girls were sleeping. The story is that they remained asleep and were unaware of what happened. This suggests one of two possibilities: 1) What he did wasn't very physically intrusive--i.e. no real touching OR 2) They have been lying, either out of fear or because they were conditioned to do so, consciously or not.

Here's the thing about a 12 year old or other young adolescent who looks old enough to be legal. They aren't legal. They are not emotionally or intellectually mature enough. And: They don't still appear to be legal if you actually talk to them.

But what if you're too drunk to notice that? Just because somebody is 12 doesn't mean they can't be rapists.

Josh Duggar said:
I humbly ask for your forgiveness

He should stop asking and just go quietly into meditation and stay there.

Well, the important part which needs to be conveyed is that it's not his fault. He is a victim. He's not a bad man, he's someone who needs help.

You can get him that help. For a small donation of $47, you can help Josh combat this addiction ... or help him buy whores. The treatment path is kind of a two-steps-forward-one-step-backwards type of thing.

Josh Duggar must be one dumb sonofabitch. I don't even feel sorry for his equally dumb wife.

To me, the real story here is that Conservative Christianity has no effect, it doesn't work, it's not good for anything.

I disagree. I think that at least some flavors of conservative Christianity have a very serious negative effect. Or rather, effects. But why target conservative Christianity? The same is true of other conservative movements which emphasize adherence to rigid rules rather than seeking knowledge , understanding and compassion and acceptance.

These revelations about Josh Duggar really highlight the lesson that money is the root box all evil.

Well yeah, I mean they saved it using the same file name and everything!

That will work, right?

Am I the only one here who thinks that even though the results are funny for Duggar, that the entire situation is an ethical nightmare, and that no amount of lulz over Duggar can ever hope to justify the huge number of lives and relationships ruined or damaged by this violation of social fiction?
