Spectacular stuff!
About a week ago I lay myself down on a deck lounge and stared up at the sky, right after the sliver new moon had set.
at first it was great... saw a little meteor straight up as soon as I lay down. After my eyes began to adjust, and the high atmosphere above had lost the last oblique ray of sunlight, shit began popping. There's so much crap in orbit!
At first I was horrified, then (hangs head) I was wishing I could see a crash.
There were, at one point, four satellites at once converging (from my perspective) in the sky, so closely that for a fleeting instant I could have covered all four of them with my fist at arm's length, and two actually appeared to have woulda hit each other if they were both at the same altitude.
After a little while, even more became visible. Clear night, no wind (so fewer particulates) 7400' elevation, not near a big city...
I used to lay out under the stars and watch, from back at a time when a moving thing in the night sky was a meteor, and seeing an airplane was exciting. But it has been a few years, I guess.
That era is over, anyway. If you brought back some Mayan for a visit on a dark night, they'd definitely say "Told you so!"
If people stopped launching shit tomorrow, it would be hundreds or thousands of years before earth's skies would be devoid of naked eye visible trash.
