I still think Trump was the least terrible. Besides Duterte from the Philippines likes him.

So? You think that other orange con artist L. Ron Hubbard wasn't terrible.

If we mention Hubbard the posts will never stop and the thread will be completely derailed.(Another on is Traditional Chinese Medicine on pseudoscience). If I'm bored i might get some balls rolling.

Meanwhile enjoy Trump for a few years. If this is not possible go to a nearest organisation where I think they still do personality tests :)

Exactly, we got a reality TV star with obscene conflicts of interest as our president, these are interesting times to be alive. Maybe once Trump fucks enough people over they'll get backhanded out of their lazy haze of indifference and actually get involved in the process for once.

Your better off than the UK so things can't be that bad. Teresa May doesn't have orange hair.

Cult trolls have never bothered us too much. Go for it. Meanwhile, your non-answer doesn't change the fact that L. Ron had some similarities to Trump, starting with megalomania and totalitarian delusions. And you think they're both great.

That's like comparing apples to pears. However I can say Trump was less undesirable than Hilary. In fact the winner was perhaps the least unpopular on a state by state basis.
I think Hubbard's red hair is not quite the same shade as Trumps I saw this as a sort of more reddish colour. Trump's is probably died and is more blondish.
Are you attending Trump's swearing in ceremony?

Hillary is irrelevant now, and barring some freak political event, will remain so. The outrage and hate for her was not the moral issue the GOP had you guys believing all this time. No Clinton scandal, real or manufactured, is on the mind of any Republican leaders anymore. They have no moral concern with her at all, only political and that is no longer an issue.

Come on. It's been almost a month. The GOP turned off its Clinton moral outrage like a tap on Nov 9. Could you Trump supporters get the memo already? Seriously, I'm tired of pointing this out all the time. Regardless of anyone's views of Clinton, she's not a talking point for anyone except some deplorables who haven't been told about the change in right wing morality that happened sometime during the evening of Nov 8. The change was so blatant that I wonder how it is that so many of you didn't notice.

As for Hubbard, I'd be interested in hearing what it is you admire about him. Is it the demonization of people he couldn't control? Or maybe it was his brilliant Fair Game policy, which is still in effect and carried out by the obedience machines (i.e., one of the end products of scientology, the other being making enemies). Then again, maybe it was that sexy singing voice of his. I'd be interested to find out.

The difference is that HRC apologized for the remark the very next day. Trumpster hasn't never apologized for anything that I know of in his life.

Exactly.

But as usual, the Trump supporters carried their outrage for months, completely ignoring the insults Trump made to the POWs, women, hispanics, the handicapped, etc.

How did you get that impression? The "basket of deplorables" speech was one of the worst own goals in American Presidential politics. For some reason, the Clinton camp thought it'd be a good idea to elevate the obscure alt-right to the national stage. If you search back, you'll see that the alt-right loved this. But the "basket of deplorables" attacked was ultimately viewed as applying to most Trump supporters. I read a few commentators during the campaign who compared Trump to punk rockers of the '70s, as his brash "fuck you" to the establishment had a similar appeal. For Clinton, who is the epitome of the establishment, to then tar these folks as "deplorable" was a gift. They didn't take it as a insult; they embraced it.

You can say that apples are mammals. That does not make it true.

The fact that I said Trump is less undesirable than Hilary doesn't mean I'm gay either. :)
Meanwhile enjoy Trump for the next 4 years and maybe more ;)

Duterte the Philippines leader likes him.

For something that's not talked about, there's a lot of talking about it. The Orange Orangutan usurped the Dragon which is history.

If she is interested I think Hilary could run again for the next election, who knows. Maybe she can get a role as an ambassador somewhere. Britain sometimes does this with a notable person in political circles and those who commit war crimes get to the House of Lords.

Trump will be Trump and let's see how things turn out.

As for Hubbard now that's something different. He did offer to forgive his enemies once they were incapacitated. Nonetheless, the negativity it received generally acted as free advertising wherein everyone knew what it is. Maybe it's the sexy singing voice. I can't say anything about his good looks nowadays as he's been officially deceased for several years.

What's he got to do with Clinton or Trump? Oh I forgot the orange type hair of Trump and Hubbard.

Yes, that's exactly what this is all about, and the moon is made of green cheese.

No, what he's got to do with Trump are the similarities. I think the part about demonizing and eradicating one's perceived enemies is one of the most glaring similarities. Misinformation, non-answers, distractions, and blatant lying are also things cherished by both Trump and Hubbard.

So what was it you like so much about L. Ron? I'm genuinely curious. Did he have any admirable traits? Was he a great leader like Trump?

It's the 'basket' part that isn't quite right. She should perhaps have referred to 'a suppurating cesspit of deplorables' to get closer to Mencken, or at least Coulter, territory.

I think it's the word 'deplorables' that makes the phrase awkward. It's an uncommon word that sounds like something an elitist would say. If HRC had said something about a 'basket full of a-holes' it would have been a lot less snobbish sounding.

It also would have been pretty funny, especially when it became an internet joke.
I think the use of the word "deplorables" is part of what made it so memorable. Had she said half his followers were a-holes, she would have been correct but sounded no different from what he says. Part of what made the phrase so amusing to me was knowing Trump doesn't understand big words like that. 😃

In fairness, he did once use the word "braggadocious" correctly. Probably learned it from Pence.

The phrase she was looking for was "depository of deplorables". Alliteration always adds a little allure. Plus, it would have subtly and utterly deniably made people think of Lee Harvey Oswald.

Now you sound like you're talking about the CIA and FBI (though perhaps more reformed nowadays). Trump's still the lesser of the two evils. As for Hubbard, his organisations are still there but I don't see much in the press.

I've got nice things to say about Mao (as I worked in China for over 10 years with a state company).

Meanwhile I hope Trump will protect US jobs as much as possible. Hopefully Britain can do this if it ever genuinely leaves the EU.

The objective of a political campaign is to attract those who are not currently supporters. Attacking them with such ad homenums only alienates them and is a sign of unbelievable arrogance.

At least someone has seen the effect the words could have had on non-aligned voters.

Yet this worked perfectly fine with Trump. He insulted a great many people and still won. Obviously insulting a great many of the voting population is not a deterrent to winning.

If you want to win those who as swaying to your side then using terms like the 'basket' are not likely to endear you to them. If you wish to appear better than your opponent then you must do better. Taking your self to your opponent's level is guaranteed to lose. They will always beat you with experience.

Is the term "basket of deplorables" the most in-artful term you ever heard coined in a presidential campaign? Forget being a running candidate that paint millions of voters with the name deplorable, but just the phrase itself. WTF is that? and months of hearing it hasn't made it sound any better to me.

I loved it. From the word craft sense. (yes it was a bad move to use it, but you're not asking about that, so I'm not talking about that). To me, I loved the way it cuts deep without swearing, but evokes a perfectly accurate vulgar alternative, "Sack of Shit." I thought it was a charming Methodist Grandmother version of a great swear.

Where my father lives, the "deplorables" comment induced a couple of people to vote for HRC. I seriously doubt that comment caused any wavering Trump supporters to vote for Trump.

IMO, that comment simply allowed the anti-Democrat and anti-HRC snowflakes. to have yet another reason to be upset.
