I thought it might be fun to talk about parts of songs for a change.

For example, two of my favorite vocal performances in rock 'n roll are the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence and Wicked Game by Chris Isaak:

Or best opening guitar riff in rock 'n roll:

Go ahead and give us your examples, or argue with the answers other people give. What do you think is the best bass drop in, say, hip-hop? Best guitar duel in bluegrass? Best drum solo in jazz? Whatever floats your boat. Just please share videos or something else that other people can legally listen to.

I'd have to say every Rammstein concert is a performance to behold. And Disturbed did a wicked cover of Depeche Modes Shout

I used to love Sound of Silence the original until somebody I knew said to try The Disturbed version and now I cannot listen to Simon and Garfunkel's original anymore cuz the revamp is soooo much better.

I've found parts of songs definitely intrigue me more than whole songs, let alone whole albums. In the Shingeki no Kyojin ost, cuz that's what I'm listening to now, there's the track, E.M.A, and the part they add more easternized instrumentation (about 2:46) is incredible. Normally I wouldn't go for a mix of modern synth/guitar , modern drums, mixers and classical music riffs, but they make it work more frequently than not nowadays.

Going by the op, you seem to be thinking of distinct vocals.

One for me was always Chrissie Hynde.

Another I like is Amy Lee, a plain vanilla voice but distinctive. Accurate with a pure tone.

Not necessarily just vocals, but any individual performance you think is worth talking about or sharing. Maybe a guitar solo you really like. Or this:

I'm really doing a disservice to those guys by posting a video. No stereo system can do them justice. Those big drums will compress your whole rib cage if you are lucky enough to see them live.

I love the music of Jacques Brel, and I love hearing cover versions of his songs. Bowie did a great version of Amsterdam, and Scott Walker made an entire album of Brel covers, which I consider to be a classic album. But if one person could do Brel with anything resembling the drama of the originals, it was this guy - Alex Harvey. Best Brel cover ever, no exceptions.

Nothing beats this drum solo.

Vocally, very few beat this woman. The song is great as well and Chenoweth knows how to deliver.
