CA Reparations Task Force

It's like stealing land from Indians, you know? You can't go small. Steal somoene's house and the lawman might force you to give it back. But if you steal a whole country and repackage it as a US state, no one will even ask for it back, because the very idea of "giving Indiana back to the Indians" sounds absurd out of context. Just like paying millions in reparations to people from whom millions were stolen.

So true. The Turks need to give Constantinople back to the Greeks.

Just like paying millions in reparations to people from whom millions were stolen.
Except we aren't talking about people from whom millions were stolen.

We're talking about the descendants of people who were wronged expecting reparations from the descendants of people who did things now considered wrong.

Surely the descendants of those freed owe compensation to those whose ancestors were wounded or died for emancipation, right? That's a heavy debt.

I guess the trick is too steal so much money from your minority populations, that when they later request fair compensation for the cirme, it sounds like an unreasonable and unjustifiable expense.

I didn't steal anything.

Which is exactly why no one has proposed taking any money from you, by suit or any other means.

Oh I am pretty sure the "any other means" is going to be where the compensation comes from.

Hey @Swammerdami or maybe @bilby , you have time to yet again copypasta on why paying taxes has dick all to do with government spending in a FIAT system?

Ah, conspiracy theories. Never mind, then.

You're a local.

Where do you think all that money will come from? It's really quite a lot. Boosting taxes on cigarettes or something probably won't cover it.

How do the proponents of this propose paying for it?
Tom

But make sure you pay your taxes, TSwizz.
Yes, taxation is a necessity in any government.

Let me explain this to you in terms you can understand:

Bob has moneys.

Bob gives Fred some of his moneys.

Now Fred owns some of Bob's moneys.

Bob doesn't own the moneys he gave Bob. He only owns the moneys that he didn't give Bob.

With me so far?

Good.

If both Bob and Fred both give some of their moneys to Teacher, now Teacher is in charge of that money. She is only allowed to spend it on good things that help the whole class. But the same thing is still true. Just as when Bob gave Fred some money and didn't own that money any more, neither Bob nor Fred own the money they gave Teacher any more.

I am a local to California, though not to San Francisco. But I am familiar with their politics, and as such I don't think a damn dollar will ever be given to anyone as a result of either of the task forces that keep getting confused in this thread. That would be fair, but politics aren't fair.

So true. Taxation is not a coercive act. You’re just giving your money to the government. No consequences if you don’t. Which is why it’s baseless for atheists to object when their taxes go to religion.

That’s probably true. While you might be able to guilt the White lefties, the Latinos and Asians aren’t going along with that shit.

I expect it will be additional taxes. You know, the type the phone company likes to bury on page 34 of the phone bill. $.20 for the new baseball stadium or added in to your property tax assessment. $.60 for "reparations".

So what is the point?
Virtue signaling?
Honestly, I don't see it as fair at all. I see no fairness in taking money from people, and giving it to other people, for the sake of political correctness.

Sorry, I just don't see that as any more fair than the ugly things people used to do when the racism was in favor of whites. Making it in favor of blacks and indigenous or whatever doesn't make it better.
Tom

Yes. Because this is a democracy, politicians have to pretend to give shit. So, they deflect demands for equity by creating little workshops and conference and task forces and focus groups to "study" issues of concern, then ignore the results of those initiatives or whittle them down to something that "looks good" but accomplishes little.

No part of this system "favors blacks and indigineous or whatever". You just explained, in your own terms, why the banking system cannot and does not favor blacks and indigenous or whatever.
