California Doing California Things

A convicted California child rapist who was set to walk free this week after controversially being granted parole acknowledged during the proceeding that he still sexually pleasured himself to children as recently as 2021, according to a transcript of the hearing. David Allen Funston, 64, was set to walk free this week but was instead arrested after a new arrest warrant was issued in Placer County, state officials confirmed. During a Sept. 24, 2025 parole hearing, Funston, who was serving a life sentence for his 1999 conviction of the kidnapping and child molestation involving multiple victims, told the panel that as recently as 2021, he still had repeated fantasies of an eight-year-old girl who used to live across the street from him.
He also admitted to raping a little boy because he was "vulnerable and available" and says he targeted children because he enjoyed the power he had over them.

News

No thanks to the incompetent governor Newsom, this dangerous sexual predator is back behind bars.
Funston hasn't been not behind bars since he first went to prison. And Newsom had nothing to do with his potential release in the near future. That was all the work of the parole board.

The parole board members that Newsom either appointed or reappointed.

I get it that you don't like Newsom or his policies.

Newsom’s policies and that of the California democrats in the legislature designed this shit and Newsom signed off on it.
Go right ahead and criticize him for what he does and doesn't do. But this exaggerated story telling and blame for things he had no control over is absurd. Newsom doesn't give marching orders to the parole board.

See above re the parole board. But all of this has come about thanks to “criminal justice reform” policy which Newsom is part of.

He can't magically place firefighters in the perfect position to battle wildfires within minutes of their ignition.

Newsom is a clown, he blames climate change for wildfires when a modicum of wildfire prevention is needed. Clearing brush etc.
He isn't personally responsible for problems with operating rail lines or construction cost overruns, although he is responsible for how he and his office respond to problems at the State level as they occur.

He continues to pour a shit load of money into the CAHSR failed project.

Newsom out touring, flogging his book rather than governing the state. Probably not a bad thing actually.

Mayor Daniel Lurie’s police security detail was attacked at the edge of the Tenderloin on Thursday evening just before 6 p.m., according to witnesses and a video obtained by Mission Local. The mayor was unharmed. One unidentified San Francisco police officer, who was part of Lurie’s security team and was in the black SUV used to ferry Lurie around alongside the mayor and his driver, was left bleeding from the back of his head. The officer said that three people blocked the car shortly before the attack, and that Lurie “hopped out” to ask them to move. They began to “comply,” the officer told his fellow cops, but, at some point, one man began “talking gibberish.” The officer then intervened and asked the man to move out of the way. The man did, at first, but then came at him, he told officers. The officer held onto the man’s upper body and then “fell back” with the man on top of him, and hit his head on the pavement as he fell.

San Francisco used to be such a lovely city and now this is what we have to deal with. Similar to a number of cities in California really.

https://sfstandard.com/2026/01/02/san-francisco-2025-crime-stats/ There will always be crime but the crime rate is down in most places, including SF. Just sayin'. And maybe the guy in the article you posted wouldn't be such a threat if we cared more about our mentally residents. At least he sounds like he may be suffering from some type of mental illness based on his language and behavior.

It sounds as if you don't know what you're talking about regarding SF's crime rate.

It has been decades since San Francisco was this safe for residents, workers, and tourists.

Crime fell dramatically in 2025, with total violent incidents declining more than 25% from the previous year, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

The city recorded 27,321 crimes through Sunday, versus 36,633 during the same period in 2024. It’s one of the steepest year-over-year drops in recent history, with reductions across nearly every major category.

The decline in crime is even more striking because crime had plummeted last year as well.

At a December press conference announcing the renovation of the city’s real-time investigation center, Mayor Daniel Lurie said SFPD officers’ efforts were “showing real results catching and deterring criminals.”

“Violent crime is down to lows not seen since the 1950s,” he said. “Car break-ins are at 22-year lows, and citywide crime is down 30%.”

Motor vehicle thefts decreased 24% in 2025 to 3,011 incidents, while burglaries fell 12.5% to 3,673 cases. Larceny theft, which represents the largest volume of crimes, declined 21.8% to 16,492 incidents.

Among violent crimes, robberies saw the most dramatic decline, plummeting 44.2% to 3,011 incidents.

Assaults, however, bucked the trend, rising 28.6% to 2,046 incidents.

Mike Males, a senior research fellow at the San Francisco-based Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, said the declines were to be expected.

There will always be crime but the crime rate is down in most places, including SF. Just sayin'.

While a decline in crime is welcome, the decline is from when crime really was out of control and there is still a long way to go to get crime down further. But statistics as presented can be misleading. Lots of crime goes unreported or underreported.

And maybe the guy in the article you posted wouldn't be such a threat if we cared more about our mentally residents. At least he sounds like he may be suffering from some type of mental illness based on his language and behavior.

True, Newsom and the democrats don't care about the mental patients that live and die on the streets of California. It's all about the grift for them.
It sounds as if you don't know what you're talking about regarding SF's crime rate.

I know it's still not as good as it should be.

This is what we have to put up with in California.

San Francisco police on Thursday arrested a man who injured another man in an unprovoked stabbing in the city’s Chinatown.
Surveillance video from the area depicts the victim waiting at a corner to cross the street as a man dressed in black walks up the sidewalk behind him. The suspect then pulls out a knife and appears to stab the victim once in the back before quickly crossing the street and leaving the scene.

Not to worry though, crime is down.

You were going to worry because someone got randomly stabbed at a bus stop in Chinatown? But now you’re not going to worry because thanks to Trump you don’t have to pretend to like Chinese food any more. So cute.

I am aghast. You have to live in a place where police arrest criminals, merely for stabbing somebody?

You poor dear.

I sincerely hope that you never have to suffer living in a place where such criminals are not arrested by the police.

Its equally disturbing that several people right there who observed the incident and the man suffering are just walking by and ignoring him. I guess that's better than everyone whipping out their cell phones to film his suffering and possible death. Progress, maybe?

I suspect people are just accustomed to such behavior in SF that its normalized and...boring. Sad.

I'm sure if you were there you would have whipped out your big ol gun and vigilanted that evil criminal right into oblivion.

:confused2: What are talking about? I don't have a gun, don't want one and don't even like them. Nor would I have confronted that crazy fucker with a knife (I wanna live, dammit!). I know for sure I would have stopped to help him, though, and called 911. I have saved a random stranger's life before at the risk of my own. What possessed you to say such a ridiculous thing?

As I said in my original post that I edited just before you chimed in here:

"I suspect people are just accustomed to such behavior in SF that its normalized and...boring. Sad."

California doing California things that Trumpsucking weenies would never dare:

GoPro captures Steamer Lane rescue as teen surfer saves child after capsize

I’d say this cancels out at least one random stabbing. But some people - especially imports - fail to appreciate acts like this, as it has nothing to do with the threats they perceive against themselves.
Blood sells, and trumpsuckers are eager buyers of fear and loathing.

It is odd nobody stopped to help. Hard to say why, it may not be obvious that the victim had been stabbed.

Subtleties like that do tend to escape the notice of some people, until it becomes a convenient tool of specious argument.

I figured Trump would get shoe-horned into the discussion somehow. Well done, sir!

It shouldn't be big news that people step up to help their fellow man (or woman). And no, it doesn't cancel out a random stabbing. This is not a zero sum game.

The one guy in black in the foreground saw it happen, stared for a while, watched him groan and fall, then walked around him. Despicable. Others may not have witnessed it, but still walked around the fallen man and didn't offer aid.

Too bad Swiz wasn’t there - he would have stepped right in and saved the day. Because he’s concerned about the moral decline of Californians and is determined to set an example for others.
Funny … Swiz doesn’t say … did the stabbed guy live or die? That question seems unimportant.
