This came about because it was felt that too many blacks or hispanics were being pulled over.

Similarly, the state did away with "jaywalking" tickets and the result has been more pedestrians being injured.

You know damn well that "jaywalking" was only ever treated as a crime in the barrios. White people in their little suburban neighborhoods cross the street to get to their mailbox or chat with Mrs Macready about the petunias and no one bats an eye.

And that no white person is ever subjected to random search and seizure in LA unless its a DUI cordon on New Year's Eve.

You've seen the numbers, they've been quoted at you dozens of times. You know the police are racist, it just doesn't bother you because it isn't you.

Nearly five years after Newsom pushed lawmakers toward a state-run alternative instead of requiring private insurers to cover pediatric hearing aids, California’s Hearing Aid Coverage for Children Program had around 300 active enrolled members despite spending almost $23 million, according to a report delivered last month to a state Senate budget committee. That works out to about $76,000 per person. The state program has received roughly $30 million in taxpayer funding over multiple budget years while serving only a fraction of the children advocates say lack adequate hearing aid coverage statewide.

Man, everyone talks shit about California, but everyone wants a piece of our pie! A fake(ish) charity called Kars4Kids has been banned from advertising in the state anymore. More due to the false advertising part, but one thing I found interesting about the investigation is that this California-based charity, which spams our tv and radio with ads, and apparently derives more than a quarter of their revenue from California donors, spends not a dime of their charitable giving here, it all goes to the a few summer camps in the Midwest and to various projects in Israel.

During a controversial tirade, the mayor proclaimed that dental care, specifically new teeth, was vital in getting the homeless population off the streets. She has been a complete failure for the city of Los Angeles. If she had a shred of integrity she would have resigned after letting the Pacific Palisades burn down. But no. If she had any decency she would not be running for a second term but no.

Spencer Pratt, a former reality TV personality is a strong contender in the race for Los Angeles mayor. If the people of Los Angeles give Bass a second term, well they deserve everything that is coming to them.

The second half of 2010s saw this trend and in most places it reached its nadir during the madness following the 2020 Insurrection.
Sad to see that this madness is still afflicting the LA city council.

Almost as if there was a difference in traffic patters between inner city streets and quiet little suburbs.
A lilly white jaywalker crossing the street in the barrio away from the crosswalk to save 30s getting to the bodega would be risking a ticket, and la Señora Gonzalez crossing her sleepy suburban street (that does not even have crosswalks) to chat with Mrs MacCready about petunias would not. Enforcement should follow circumstances, but enforcement should not be halted in areas where such enforcement actually benefits public safety just because too many "black and brown" folks would be getting tickets. In the end, it only harms those people when more of them get hit by los carros.

When public safety takes the back seat to political correctness and the bankrupt ideology of "disparate impact", everybody ends up worse off. That is also related to this idea from the article above that police should not pull people over because too many driving infractions are committed by "black and brown" people.

LAPD should be able to stop people for traffic infractions no matter their race. And if more people of certain demographics drive for example with expired tags, improper tint or with malfunctioning equipment, that is no reason to cease enforcement.

Disparate outcomes/impact is not evidence of "racism". Nor is it a reason for politicians to prohibit police from doing their jobs.

The absolute truth is that areas with greater minority populations are policed more heavily and minority people are arrested or ticketed at much higher rates than their white counterparts engaging in the same behavior in a whiter part of town.

I live in a pretty white state and in a pretty white part of the state. Most of the non-white population are employed by or students of the local institutions of higher education and if you go about 50 miles away, the major medical center that attracts a very large international set of patients and practitioners. But really, we are mostly white in this corner of the state, over 90% white still but less white than when we moved here more than 30 years ago.

I can tell you that I have been pulled over by police, allegedly due speeding but pretty obviously when they saw my face, because they thought I was someone who drove a similar color car. Police make mistakes. I’ve been pulled over —and let go because I look like the mother next door who always had freshly baked cookies. And because they saw my employee badge. Yes: I was exceeding the speed limit but I got a warning. My BIL has long been a substance abuser and back in the day, when police pulled him over for a DUI, they’d see a nice looking white kid with the address of my in-laws in a very nice very white neighborhood ..and let him go.

In my town, college students do a lot of stupid college student stuff. Sometimes they are ticketed. Sometimes they are arrested. Although there are many many more white students than non-white students, the non-white students are much more likely to have their names on the police roster and their images on the police blotter. Much more likely. Although the racial disparity seems a little less striking these days.

Some of my friends are non-white non-US born faculty members who report students asking if the prof ‘is sure they belong here’ and making complaints that the prof’s English was poor and too hard to understand. Profs whose degrees were from prestigious US Universities. While there is a bit of an accent, their English speaking skills are excellent and some have resided in the US for more than 40 years. But some students are not used to anyone who dues not either speak with an upper midwestern accent or sound like they are on TV. And some cannot handle the academic rights and so blame something, someone else. Some have never had to interact with anyone not born in the upper Midwest, and struggle with the notion of a different perspective than the one in their small town.

It is somewhat natural to be inclined to lie and trust someone who looks like the people you grew up with. But police are not 5 years old.
