Captain America: Civil War trailer released

Ya, the Russo brothers who did this one are doing the next Avengers. That's good news because they did a great job of handling an ensemble cast with a fairly broad and complex plot. They even managed to make it funny while staying away from stupid.

This needs a Academy Award nomination. It didn't happen with The Avengers, but the achievement with this film (and that) can't be overstated. This could have sucked terribly if in the wrong hands or even just adequate hands (think Ironman 2 or 3).

Just look at FF and CA: Civil War. That is the spectrum. Someone should be at least nominated for getting to the nearly as good as it could possibly be stage.

The scripting was incredible. They packed an enormous amount of plot and development in to the film, without dragging it at any point. The humor was great, the main melee was off the charts. It was just brilliant on so many levels.

My only suggestion would have been to include The Hulk in the film, where Banner was on the side of Stark and The Hulk was on the side of Captain America.

I think it kind of undercuts the point of a conflict if you have the Hulk on one side and no Hulk on the other side. If one guy is bringing the Hulk, there's not much point in the other guy bringing Hawkeye and Antman.

Marvel has listened to these concerns, however, and they've found a way to shoehorn Hulk into the next Thor movie just so fans wouldn't need to wait so long to see him again.

Actually, Antman would probably make a lot of sense. Not so much Black Widow and Hawkeye.

I understand why The Hulk wasn't in it, they had more than enough stuffed into the film already. I just thought that there was an interesting plot development there where the man is on one side and the beast is on the other. In fact, it would have been cool if Banner is next to Widow and he changes and punches her across the air field, breaking every bone in her body, liquefying her organs. Then he steps over her and pisses on her...

... wait this is terribly disturbing and not good at all!

I give it 8.5/10

It is probably the best superhero movie to date, with only a couple of minor disappointments for me. Having read most of the Civil War event in the comics (I didn't read all of the tie-ins), I think the direction they took with it was better than it would have been if they would have tried to make a movie closer to the events in the comics. The overarching plot had already been done in the X-Men with the mutant registration act, so it would have seemed like copying to casual fans if they had tried to make it just about registering superheroes. Given the smaller number of known super heroes in the MCU, what they with the UN accord made a whole lot of sense. I was only let down by the ending, which had no real emotional impact, unlike the comics, and the fact that there is no Iron Spider.

With Evans deciding to return as Cap, I can understand the change of ending. They certainly could have gone ahead and killed him off with intent to bring him back later, but the fact that they did not actually seems like they are giving more credit to the discernment of the movie going audience than is typically afforded to the comic readers. We comic fans are used to main characters being killed off and brought back for some silly reason just a few issues later, but only because that's the way we have been treated for decades by the writers.

The Iron Spider suit not appearing is also quite forgivable, as Spidey does not get much screen time, so it makes sense for him to be more readily identifiable when he joins the action. This is made even more forgivable by Marisa Tomei being cast as Aunt May. That was unexpected, and I certainly hope they keep her in the upcoming Spider-Man movies. I also really like Tom Holland as Spider-Man, and I think he is a better fit for the role than either Toby Maguire or Andrew Garfield.
