2 suits over fatal Chicago police shootings being settled for about $3M each
Let's meet these dindus whose deaths are worth millions to their families.
First, Darius Pinex.
NBC Chicago said:
According to police, once the vehicle was stopped, officers ordered Pinex and a passenger out of the car. The passenger opened his door and Pinex put the car in reverse striking and dragging an officer.
Pinex then put the car into drive in an attempt to strike another officer, but hit a light pole instead, police said. The officer said he feared for his life, fired his weapon and shot Pinex, who later died.
[...]
Pinex had more than two dozen previous arrests on his record, including drug possession, burglary and resisting arrest. His most recent conviction came last month, when he was given a conditional discharge for resisting arrest, the Chicago Tribune reported.
A clear case of being a dindu, according to this family.
"They just shot him down like he was nothing. He was a human being and he had people that loved him, people that still do love him," said Gloria Johnson, Pinex's grandmother. "He didn't deserve to die the way he did, and I just want to know why they shot my grandson down the way they did."[..]Johnson insisted that her grandson was a good person who "didn't give anyone any problems."
"No problems" except a lengthy criminal history and he also injured a police officer before getting shot.
The officer that was dragged by the car was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Clarly, the family should be rewarded for raising such an upstanding young gentleman.

Chicago Tribune said:
A 17-year-old boy who ran from South Chicago District officers after being stopped on suspicion of carjacking was fatally shot Monday as he fled the stolen car when officers saw he had a "dark object" in his hand, police said. [...]Less than a minute later, however, a police radio broadcast alerted the officers to the Charger having been stolen not long before in an armed carjacking, Camden said.
The officers realized "That’s the car!" and sped on to where the Charger was stopped in traffic, with vehicles in front and behind, Camden said. The officers got out of the car, one on each side, and told the driver they were police.
The driver raised his left hand but appeared to be reaching for something in the passenger seat, then jumped out and ran, Camden said.

So a carjacker too dumb to drop a dark object (black iPhone case as it turned out, but police had no way of knowing it) gets shot and his family become millionaires?

Who are these nincompoops in the Chicago government working for? Families of thugs or the hard working taxpayers of Chicago? Apparently the former. And is any of this money going to be used as restitution for these thugs' victims?

But Derec, there is one positive to come out of this: It pisses off closet racists like you. :)

Nothing racist about being upset about such blatant misuse of public money.
It's not like Chicago is rolling in the dough. Those six million could be much better used for their schools for example.

And really, what is the bigger violence problem in Chicago? A few violent thugs getting shot by police or 100s of people getting shot by violent thugs?
Chicago surpasses 600 homicides in 2016 and is on pace to have its deadliest year in two decades
How about the city government sets their priorities straight. Police are not the enemy here.

Derec let's just be frank and call a spade a spade. You are incredibly prejudiced against black people. You distrust and dislike black people so much that it aggravates you when they get a positive settlement. So let's not pretend that you're upset because the city lost money. You're upset that it went to these "Dindus" as you put it.

When somebody is a career thug and injures a cop with his car before getting shot and yet his family insists he never gave anybody problems then "dindu" is a correct appellation.

Wrong. I have no prejudice against black people. If Darius Pinex for example was a white thug who tried to run over a police officer who pulled him over the shooting would be as justified. If his family insisted he was a good boy he'd be as much a dindu. If the Chicago settled his case for 3 million that would be as wrong.
The only place race enters into it is that Chicago would not be likely to award such a settlement in favor of a white criminal due to the political climate.

It is about city being out the money they desperately need, but it is also about the recipients of the money being extremely undeserving. Not because they are black, but because they raised a couple of thugs and are now getting rewarded for it. It is you who is racist here. You think the settlements are justified because of the race of the dead guys.

"Career thugs" and dumb people have the same rights as ordinary citizens. Injuring a police officer is not a capital offense.

The question in both instances is whether the police followed proper protocol and whether the city officials - who know more about the situation and their likelihood of success at trial - believe they will prevail at trial at a lower cost than the settlement.

But leave it to the usual suspects to immediately accept the police version of events and to show vituperative outrage at the settlements to these black families.

Indeed. Here's a guy who got over $7,000,000.00 from an EDUCATIONAL institution. Could it have been better spend on education? Nah - he's WHITE!

Dindu is a term used to specifically refer to black criminals and more broadly is used to refer to blacks all together. If you don't want to be called prejudiced, then leave the prejudice at home.

See above. Your point is moot because dindu is not ever used to refer to people who aren't black. There's no such thing as a white dindu just as there is no such thing as a white coon.

If the Chicago settled his case for 3 million that would be as wrong.

Well maybe state employees shouldn't kill unarmed citizens who are running away from them then.

but it is also about the recipients of the money being extremely undeserving.
because when a state employee shoots and kills your kin when there was no reason to do so, you have no right to any kind of recourse

Not because they are black, but because they raised a couple of thugs and are now getting rewarded for it. It is you who is racist here.
keep telling yourself that. I wouldn't call losing your child a reward though. I guess because they're black though they don't care about their children and just want money.

You think the settlements are justified because of the race of the dead guys.
My point isn't whether or not the settlement is justified. My point is that your objection is due to the plaintiff's skin color. I mean the cases were settled and you're still acting as if the cops in the scenarios did nothing wrong when the city that hired them obviously disagrees.

Dindu is a term used to specifically refer to black criminals and more broadly is used to refer to blacks all together. If you don't want to be called prejudiced, then leave the prejudice at home.

BTW My challenge is still out there: find a use of "dindu" that doesn't involve a black person.

Let's start a breeding program for those new domesticated foxes with local American foxes and call it a Dindu Fox.

This is probably what tipped the scale in favor of a settlement in the Chatman case:
The video also led to a dispute inside the Independent Police Review Authority, the city agency that investigates police shootings, and allegedly cost investigating supervisor Lorenzo Davis his job. Davis has claimed his finding that the shooting was not justified was reversed over his objections, with IPRA eventually concluding the shooting was justified. Davis filed a federal lawsuit against IPRA; it was dismissed earlier this year, when a judge determined that Davis' refusal to change his finding was not protected free speech under the First Amendment.
(from the OP link article).

In the Pinex case, the original trial verdict was thrown out when the judge learned the city had withheld information from plaintiffs. In addition, one of the officers involved had killed other people in shootings.

For some reason, the disinterested and impartial OP neglected these salient facts (all from the OP article).

Hmmm.

Why do you think any of those thugs that got themselves shot were black? It wasn't mentioned in any post so far... so why do you bring up race? Derec didn't, you did.

Actually, he brought it up in the OP. Dindu means an innocent African-American.

The most obvious answer is that the article has photographs of the victims.

And, of course, there is clear history of Derec's pre-occupation with "thug" (i.e. black) victims of police shootings and their families receiving settlements. For example, can you reference a thread started by Derec where he complains about the families of white thugs getting settlements? If not, well, then you have another reason.

And, finally, there is his use of "dindu" and "Who is the next posthumous winner of the ghetto lottery? ".

Forgetting to put a parachute on before jumping out of an airplane is not a capital offense either. So is it wrong that people die.. like fucking ever? Getting old isn't a capital offence... having heart disease is the #1 cause of death.. .yet somehow, it is simply not a capital offense... hmmm, odd that. It is such a stupid comment that the Dindu Nuffins get away with.... "X isn't a capital offense!" No. It's not. No one said it is. But it sure is understandable that one might get killed engaging it that course of action... like failing to wear your parachute...

The question in both instances is whether the police followed proper protocol and whether the city officials - who know more about the situation and their likelihood of success at trial - believe they will prevail at trial at a lower cost than the settlement.

Yes, exactly... and with the (publically known) facts, it sure looks like complete incompetence to settle.
But leave it to the usual suspects to immediately accept the police version of events and to show vituperative outrage at the settlements to these black families.

Forget whose "version" of events you think are being reported... The sequence of event's that were reported to the public are what are being commented on. do you have a source of a conflicting set of events or are you guilty of what you accuse others of (assuming events went a particular way).... it sounds like you automatically reject the events that are reported... based on what evidence related to this case?

Holy straw man Batman. There is an obvious difference between something being understandable and something being excusable that apparently escaped you.

Not when you know all of the publicly known facts in the article that you clearly did not read and which the OP omitted

No, they are not. If you read the article, you might avoid these embarrassing comments.

But the injured cop is a clear indication that the dindu's actions posed a serious threat.

Find a white person in the news that would reasonably be described as a dindu.

No. A dindu is a person who despite plenty of wrongdoing claims to have done nothing wrong, the police reaction was out of the blue. While the term itself has no racial component the reality is the cases we hear about all involve blacks.
