Santa Monica's homeless population was recorded at 812 individuals in the 2025 Point-in-Time Count, a 5% increase from 2024. This marks a departure from the downward regional trend, with the local increase driven by a rise in people living in cars, vans, and RVs, as well as those in shelters. The majority of Santa Monica's unhoused population is not from the city, with a large portion originating from outside the area, creating a regional challenge for the city to address in isolation

Seriously, that's like one homeless person per 150 residential units in SM. Isn't one residence in a hundred fifty willing to take in a homeless person? What with the price of labor today, you'd think they'd be lining up. If everyone would house a homeless person for just two nights a year, you'd have a total shortage of homeless people, making room on Swiz's lawn for the next wave of climate refugees.
