I don't know what conservatives are thinking.

  • If you regulate doors, then only criminals will use doors.
  • Doors are not sentient, so regulating doors is completely stupid. Are you going to blame doors for what's going on and pass laws expecting the doors to obey your laws? They're fucking doors for crying out loud, and incapable of following whatever unnecessary laws you pass.
  • The only way to stop a bad guy with a door is a good guy with a door, therefore the real solution to securing schools is to have even more doors.
  • Mass shooters can enter schools through plumbing pipes just as easily as through doors, therefore it is pointless to regulate doors.

Oh, and is anyone surprised that many conservatives are demanding that women have sex with any man who asks in order to prevent mass shootings? Gotta love those Christian Family Values[ent]trade[/ent]. Is the taxpayer going to have to pay for the ensuing abortion?

If there weren't so many doors, then maybe God would still be in that school, but NO, the liberals and their BIG GOVT REGULATION mandated MORE doors, so God could not only leave, but leave by the most convenient route possible.

I use my doors to protect my family.

If you take my toilet door away from me, I will not be responsible for what happens next.

They are obviously trying to take our doors away! These jack-booted thugs are door-grabbers!!!!! ;)

So by limiting access in and out of the school, we can help reduce the number of entrances or exits a shooter can use... but then again, we'd also increase a kill rate and can incite a panic (cause a stampede or crush) by shooting people who are being herded to one of the only entrances/exits in the school.

Jebus! You could just use firecrackers to cause a stampede.

And let's not forget the most OBVIOUS reason this is stupid beyond belief. Fire.

We can't let frivolous things like fire safety interfere with our 2nd amendment rights!

The important thing is that this is a valid excuse to not enact gun control.

What's more important? The life of your child, or helping Billy-Jim-Bob forget about how sad he is about having a small penis?

Hasn't anyone thought this through? I'm sure the shooter would. He'll station himself some distance from the door with a bigass scope. Plant a small device in the school with a timer.... when it goes off, everyone panics, pours out the one door and gets mowed down. Excellent idea.

Don't worry. Lawmakers will simply call for increased school safety by having multiple entrances and exits for the school. If that causes a problem, they'll move to have schools locked down with only one entrance.

Just so long as they don't need to do anything about guns, they're fine going back and forth on this issue.

You just want to take our doors away, you door-grabber! Jack-booted thug!

On a related note:

Republican politicians: We don't need gun control. People just need to secure their firearms so that the wrong people don't get the guns.

Others: OK, let's pass a law requiring people to secure their firearms.

Republican politicians: I can't commit to that!

Others: But you just[ent]hellip[/ent]

Republican politicians: I know what I said!

Okay guys, I get your outrage on a pet topic... but take a step back and think about oh... restaurants, stores, offices, and any number of other buildings that have only a few entrances but have lots of fire exits. One can eliminate avenues of ingress without removing reasonable egress.

Wanting to prevent school massacres is not a ‘pet topic’.

Also, Good analogy as there are usually hundreds of people in an Office Max.

I understand, I had meant gun control. I viewed this discussion as an aspect of gun control.
Odd, I view it as trying to limit mass casualties in schools.

Oh, and the answer is ‘we can’t’. Pandora’s box is open and despite changes to security, killers will modify their techniques. It really sucks how terribly wrong the NRA was in the 80s.

Stop trying to take away our doors!

Doors aren't sentient! Why can't you understand that??????!!!!11!!!11!!1!oneoneone

Maybe you're right. But I grew up a military dependent, with secure facilities being a pretty common thing. And I work at a health insurer, with controlled access. Most of my family has worked in jobs that have some element of controlled access. Limiting the number of ways that a person can enter the premises seems like a fairly reasonable step. You just can't be dumb about it, of course - you still need sufficient fire doors to allow egress in the event of an emergency. They would just be one-way doors.

It's not going to be a magic solution that makes all of this go away. But it could feasibly increase the difficulty of it by enough to reduce both the incidence rate and the damage done. No guarantee, but not really a bad idea.
