Covid-19 miscellany

A doctor from Oregon who said mask-wearing can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning got his medical license revoked

An Oregon doctor who falsely claimed that wearing masks can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning has had his license revoked.

As of September 2, Steven Arthur LaTulippe is no longer allowed to practice, according to records from the Oregon Medical Board. LaTulippe also received a $10,000 fine.

An investigation conducted by the Oregon Medical Board found that LaTulippe engaged in "8 instances of unprofessional or dishonorable conduct, 22 instances of negligence in the practice of medicine, and 5 instances of gross negligence in the practice of medicine."

LaTulippe's family practice, South View Medical Arts, did not ask patients whether they had been in close contact with someone who exhibited COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for the disease, records say. LaTulippe had also asked his receptionist to screen individuals for COVID-19 by looking at the patient's facial expression rather than asking common screening questions.

Buh bye...

No. I've been vaccinated. Had to for work (Nursing Home), but I would have done it anyway. I don't ask them to put on masks. They put me up when I would otherwise have been homeless, for several months, didn't ask for a penny, and didn't put any pressure on me at all when I was so depressed and suicidal I didn't even want to look for work. Besides that, I am not afraid of getting the virus, or of dying as a result. I WOULD worry about infecting someone else if I contracted it, and would always wear the mask. But I can't see troubling them about it.

Let alone tear-gassing them!

I don't want to go on about my parents, or myself. My reason for asking Loren that question was because it is most certainly NOT legitimate to pepper spray someone without a mask, or with their nose uncovered. That is an insane thing to say.

I could understand it in certain cases, like that woman who went around coughing on someone. I can understand someone pepper-spraying someone for doing something so atrocious, and dangerous. I wouldn't do it myself, but I could understand someone else doing it, and I would not blame them for doing it.

***

Imagine if that were to become common practice. See someone with no mask, or with their nose uncovered, pepper-spray them! Yeah, that's the trick! That'll learn 'em! Does anyone think that these anti-vaxxers will suddenly think,

"OMG, I got pepper-sprayed because I wasn't wearing a mask in public! I'm such a terrible person! Oh my goodness have I been taught a lesson. I sure won't ever do that again!" (apologies for all the explanation points!!!!)

No. It would be mayhem. It's easy to suggest such measures, but it would be almost inconceivable to put such measures in practice. I am all for a mandate. Mandate masks, and penalize anyone who won't comply. Just go ahead and do it.

But I am not all for mass vigilantism. And I don't see how any rational person could be.

I'm talking about making it a legal form of self defense, not vigilantism. People without masks are a threat.

Yeah, okay. Do you really think that would fly? We'd have multitudes of anti-vaxxers/anti-maskers being sprayed and then possibly shooting the person who sprayed them, or beating the hell out of them.

More importantly, would YOU pepper spray a loved one? Would you pepper spray an elderly person?

As for the nose being exposed? How the hell do you know if this is intentional or accidental? The damn things can slip and one not be presently aware of it.

Your suggestion is madness.

Ever heard of the Cloward-Priven strategy?

Pepper spray would make them cough and retch and so spread their cooties more.

A reminder that the true death total from Covid-19 is 50% or 60% higher than official numbers show. Some Covid deaths are described differently on death certificates. The "true" death toll should also include patients who died from other causes because the pandemic impacted the availability of hospital care. Different methodologies are used to estimate the "true" death toll; measuring "excess" deaths is the simplest.

The U.S. death toll is shown as 674K, but is actually about a million. The world toll (4.55M) is probably about 7 million in actuality.

I'm trying to imagine how the unvaxxed-by-choice manage to face their health care providers when they're laid low by covid. I did see one of these encounters, in which an unvaxxed male patient just barely pulled through, and told his doctor (who was unbelievably polite and pleasant) that, given the chance to get vaxxed before his illness, he still wouldn't do it. That ran on MSNBC.
They obviously aren't moved by discussions of the death toll of the disease, and they damn sure don't comprehend (or care about) the burden they've created for hospital staff. (It makes me wonder if Ron DeSantis would learn anything by getting covid and getting stuck on a respirator. He is probably vaxxed, like the Trumps are vaxxed.) We are shackled to these morons fellow citizens, and I am for any legal coercion or restriction that can pass judicial review. If employers want to make vaccination a requirement, I'm for it. If you can't get on a plane without your vax card, good. We seem to have reached all of the 'reachables', and if the others want to make a b.f.d. about their Daniel Boone free spirit, then they should face some restrictions. Freedom aint free, right? The people who would have to work next to you or sit next to you in public transportation have a right to as safe an environment as can be had.

I was wondering what the true needless death toll is say counting from May this year when the vaccine became easily available, being sure to count people who died of something else when the hospitals became overflowing with covid deniers.

Former russian president Dmitry Medvedev got sick with symptoms consistent with C19.
I presume he was vaccinated for sure. And Putin himself is in quarantine, saying large number in his immediate circle were infected.

Today on, The Press Needs to Take A Couple Steps Back...

There was an incident at an Italian joint in NYC allegedly involving vax cards of three women from Texas. Well, it wasn't quite like that.

The details are still fuzzy, but it is possible that this incident was a pair of matching majors, or possibly even the Restaurant's staff fault, and there was less to see here than first reported.

These are the people that cut you off while running a stop sign and then flip you the middle finger if you honk. All of the data is staring them in the face and they refuse to see it.

It's goofy that they will accept any and all medical help when needed but refuse the vaccine. What kind of selfishness is that? Is it political or is the explanation deeper? Some personalities naturally gravitate in this direction.

I'm very sick

Are you vaccinated?

No

Well, we're too busy right now to treat unvaccinated persons. Please come back when we have extra time. Right now we're treating persons who need care through no fault of their own.

But I may die. I'm that sick.

Exactly. I'm glad you understand our position.

These are the people that cut you off while running a stop sign and then flip you the middle finger if you honk. All of the data is staring them in the face and they refuse to see it.

From what I can tell, it's not that they don't see the data. They believe it is phony: made up, make believe, a hoax.

How many times can I say this? My PARENTS are anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers. Their neighbors (the elderly couple across the street) are as well. They are Trumpsters, hard-right Republicans, and they believe that those in power on the LEFT (the "asshole liberals") have all conspired to cook the data: to exaggerate the numbers, to outright lie, to willfully make the virus appear way more dangerous than it really is. They do believe the virus exists, but they think it's no worse than the average flu. They really do. I have heard the conversations.

They believe that it's a way for the LEFT to see how manageable the "herd" is, to gauge their obedience, their willingness to follow gub'mint orders. To put on the mask is a sign of weakness, of submission, of mindless subservience. The maskers are "sheeple". They really do think this way. And it's not just my parents or their neighbors. I have heard the same theories from people at work, or from others I know online.

"These are the people that cut you off while running a stop sign and then flip you the middle finger if you honk." - Such a comment completely misses the real problem. Ever been to Lake Havasu City during Spring Break? Odds are every time someone cuts you off and flips you the bird during that time, it's a spoiled, shitfaced college student.

I've heard those conspiracy arguments only once. Most of what I hear is that they haven't gotten around to it, don't do flu shots, don't have the time, etc. I've heard the anti-liberal scree as a reason but it wasn't couched in pure scientific illiteracy. Maybe I just hang with a more educated crowd, which I do actually. We also tend to be older and more socially active so that makes us more likely to get the jab.

I wish only the refusenik idiots were suffering and dying but that's obviously not the case. Their stupidity is causing needless death and suffering for others and they don't care.

This is exactly the part that makes me angry. People talk about vaccination and such as a personal choice. But it hugely impacts everyone.

It is not only a personal choice.

That you hang out with a more educated crowd is most likely. But you still don't seem to grasp my point.

If Most of what I hear is that they haven't gotten around to it, don't do flu shots, don't have the time, etc, and you say you hang around with a more educated crowd, then you are saying that it's the educated refuseniks who are selfish and lazy? Is that what you mean? Because, as I continue to point out, if a person (like my parents and many others) is a refusenik because they are ignorant, watch only Fox news, and/or are convinced that the Covid 19 virus is an elaborate hoax, or in any case extremely exaggerated (as a means of seeing how compliant and manageable the "sheeple" really are), then it is NOT out of selfishness or laziness, or apathy, or malice that they refuse the vaccine, and/or refuse the mask. Least of all malice. They are proud in believing that they have not been tricked into submission! They are NOT out to kill people wantonly!

So, it seems to me that obnoxious, spoiled college students, ie, the "more educated crowd" (assuming they know the virus is real and deadly and not a hoax or exaggerated for political reasons), are no doubt much more likely to cut you off and flip you the bird for honking, to refer to Jimmy's remark, than some average elderly republican and/or conspiracy theorist. And no doubt far more likely to be lazy, selfish, and even malignantly stupid.

Yeah, he probably is. And they probably will both be alright, though that Medvedev got sick might get some people to distrust the vaccine

(btw, our president also was fully vaccinated and got a mild case of covid, and some thought that the vaccine wasn't good because of that; some others thought it was good because the case was mild, and yet some others thought he was lying and wasn't sick).

I know of three people out of dozens who have not gotten the jab of whom I associate with on a regular basis. None of those three are college educated, if that makes a difference, and they are super good friends. So maybe I gave the wrong impression. They are the exceptions and their reasoning is as I've stated. But they are quite civil, almost apologetic, definitely not Karens or FOXheads. If I had to guess why, their decision is a political choice not a medically informed one.

My daughter's boyfriend just won't get the vaccine either. His whole family is Republican. They have grandma, mother, father and 3 siblings and two in laws and a baby all living in one house. I have been told the women are vaccinated and the men are not. Why I don't know. My daughter tries to get her boyfriend to just do it. He claims he has no time. I don't buy it. He works from 3:00pm to 11pm. It takes 10 minutes to go do CVS and just do it. Something else is going on.

I've warned my daughter that when her mother is finally able to come home from Canada (where as a US citizen she can not get a vaccine) we may not be comfortable her living here in our house, her having sex with her boyfriend, until my wife can get vaccinated here. She may have to live at my mom's unoccupied home 35 minutes away. Even telling her BF this does not nudge him into getting the vaccine. I don't know how much he buys into the anti-vax lies. He has also told my daughter that he wants to wait until only one vaccine is approved and I've told her that that will never happen. There will always be at least Pfizer and Madurna. I'm starting to think that he's worried if his family find out he got vaccinated he'd be in trouble with the family. I've said no insurance is needed. Keep it secret. No go.

Seems to me he's just coming up with stupid excuses. And unfortunately it puts my daughter and us in a bind. I'm not very comfortable her having sex with an unvaccinated boyfriend and living here anyway. But at least the boys and I are vaccinated. But when my wife can finally come home it will be a whole different situation.

What?! A medical board actually pulled a license?! In what bizarro world do they actually do their job?!
