Dem Post Mortem

Good luck putting their trust in the GOP then. I hope the muslims in Michigan like what they get.
As usual, victim blaming from the supposed Left. You guys secretly hate minorities just as much as the conservatives do, you just feel compelled to be polite about it most of the time. Given the opportunity? Out come the knives. Tell me more about how you want Palestinians to suffer.

Biden and Harris were tone deaf on the economy and the border.
Passed a stimulus that the right-wing was angry about.

Exit polls indicate the switch was with "Other" in Michigan.

I’d like to see the genocide in Palestine stopped. Good luck getting that with Elon Musk and The Heritage Foundation running all three branches of the Federal government. The Muslims in Michigan wouldn’t vote for Harris because she wouldn’t take a hard line against Palestine. I think that was a dumb stance given the alternative.

What the hell?

I don't put much stock in such stats at this stage of the game, but someone on another forum claimed that only 30% of Michigan Muslims voted for Harris. Since Trump won, that means that every eligible voter who didn't vote Harris effectively voted for Trump*.

Not only will Palestinians feel the brunt, but so will nearly everyone. So don't tell me that criticizing a group that helped put Trump in office is "bringing out the knives", when the Muslims in Michigan voted for Trump by 70%. (If it's true)

Tom
*Eligible voters had 3 options. Harris, Trump, and "whoever wins". Staying home was a vote for Trump. Third party was a vote for Trump. Writing in a name was a vote for Trump. Because Trump won.

She lost because of generations of successful, progressive, liberal legislation. She lost because enough of the electorate are no longer living in desperation, because they are more free than ever and free of much of life's vicissitudes, able to cast a vote based on emotional satisfaction and not physical need. So long as she or someone else keeps losing for those reasons I'm okay with losing.

I mostly agree with this person but I disagree with her assumptions about the motivations of those of us that were willing to support Harris over Trump. There are material differences in outcome and electing the GOP to a federal supermajority is not moving the needle in the right direction; unless we are ready to burn it all down with the hope of building something good from a clean slate.

Do you think Muslims in the US that helped elect Trump did anything positive in that regard to help end US support of genocide?

TAL story on the uncommitted movement.

Of course that’s one group of people. There was a failure to motivate across a broad spectrum and a lot of brainwashing. The climatologist whose mother told him that he needed to do “deep research” because everything he knew about hurricanes was wrong comes to mind.

People are just comfortable enough that they can be convinced that some boogieman is coming to take it away.

Wow, that is sure some hot load of ignorant malarkey.

I don't want Palestinians to suffer. I want Muslims in Michigan who didn't vote for Harris to suffer. And they will very much likely, but vicariously through Palestinian suffering. Actually they will suffer directly through Trump.

I've always tried to support Israel, the October attack was horrific and they have every right to defend themselves. But no more. fuck Israel - or at least as long as Netanyahu is in power. I'd love to see dems grow a pair of balls over Israel. That's the real reason they lost. They're actually too conservative. I wonder if they will go the way of the Liberal Party in England? Replaced by the Greens or a new Social Democrats Party? People want a real alternative and the dems just don't really present one.

I heard someone on Facebook say that he was voting for Trump because the Democrats supported Bush's Iraq war. Insane. But then again, maybe logical in a twisted way.

I don't think it is reliable to say Muslims only were "30%" for Harris. We don't have that statistic. What we do have is the number of "Other". When you look at the demographics for Michigan, Whites, Blacks generally stood pat relative to 2020. The change for "other" was notable and swapped from Biden in 2020 to Trump is 2024. The Exit Polls matter. They are accurate. It was why I knew I could skip straight to the heavy narcotics by 9:15 PM last night. So it is not unreasonable to conclude that the Muslim vote was against Harris.

They appeared to tip the state to Trump. Thank goodness that wasn't the tipping point.

That's why I put the disclaimer in there. I don't much trust stats like that at this point. But the guy who made the claim has a reputation for being well informed and not making hyperbolic assertions.

Suppose it were only 60-40. By 60 I mean didn't vote Harris by 60%. We're talking about people in a swing state, not Indiana or Massachusetts.

I cited the info showing "Other" was 55 to 41 in Trumps favor.

But it's not that the Muslim vote went against Harris. Same is true for Blacks, women, and Latinos. It's that they didn't support Harris enough. Trump siphoned off enough of those votes to win. He didn't need a majority. He just needed to outperform himself in 2020. If only 30% of black men voted for Trump - that's a huge fucking margin for him. That's over 200,000 votes just in Pennsylvania alone. There's his margin of victory.

Is no one looking at my links or reading my post? The exit polls in MI showed everyone but other generally standing pat. In Michigan! Other states saw other changes. Trump's team was either surgical or his allies from abroad were surgical in pushing specific narratives in specific areas.
It's that they didn't support Harris enough.
"Other" voted in majority for Trump in Michigan.

The siphoning, that was NC, PA, GA.

Voters, perhaps? I don't know. What I do know is that staying home was a vote for Trump. In their case, a vote for Trump in a swing state.

Yup. Gone for good is the comfortable old trope that Trump support is just 33 or 35% of us. We own this guy. This is Trumpistan.
