If I hire you to classified staff, I expect you to be able to do a million office tasks at once with a hodgepodge mix of equipment gathered in every decade since the 50s, all equally well, while also playing camp counselor to any student that happens to wander in.
If I hire you to the faculty, I expect you to compellingly instruct students in your field of expertise, while also quietly playing most of the roles the uninitiated would expect of an administrator, using all of your overtime to find the necessary duct tape to barely keep the school together as an institution for another semester. Also, surprise, you're now also an online instructor and an epidemiologist!
If I elect you to the college board, I expect you to say "I fully understand your labor and/or equity and/or pedagogical concerns, but there's only so much room in the budget and we have to put students first" a lot.
