Donald, You Ignorant Slut

Donald, You Ignorant Slut

Donald does have an odd effect on journalists.

But let’s cut to the chase and look at what I’m calling the Big Eight. Of all the words used by the press to describe Donald Trump, the million-hit wonders are these:

bully 1.4 million
self-obsessed 2.5 million
vicious 9.1 million
rude 13.3 million
cruel 13.3 million
liar 16.2 million
angry 19.3 million
And the winner—drum roll, please:
idiot 20.5 million

Notice that five of the eight are internal attributes, only one can be fact-checked, and the most popular epithet of them all is the last refuge of sputtering incoherent rage. It’s reminiscent of the old Saturday Night Live routine, with Dan Aykroyd responding to anything Jane Curtin said with, “Jane, you ignorant slut.”

Ladies and gentlemen, most unjournalistic.

Some interesting questions follow later about who they think is the voter instead of who actually is the voter. Do journalists go out and look up anything anymore?

Here's something Democrats might want to remember - you're more likely to defeat him if you find out why people support him instead of decide why people support him.
People support him because of his cult of personality and his tendency to say socially intolerant things. See... that was pretty simple.

bully 1.4 million
self-obsessed 2.5 million
vicious 9.1 million
rude 13.3 million
cruel 13.3 million
liar 16.2 million
angry 19.3 million
And the winner—drum roll, please:
idiot 20.5 million
Are we saying any of these things aren't accurate? These aren't insults, these are accurate descriptions! He is a pathological liar, he acts like a high school bully (the popular one), he names everything after himself, his comments to Fiorina / Clinton / Kelly were crude.

Is a Trump supporter someone who's going to have their mind changed by reasoned or emotional argument? My guess is emotional. Although to be fair, a lot of people would only consider emotional arguments.

Mind changed? That would presume they were thinking in the first place. His supporters aren't exactly the best people when it comes to the political mind. I'm a little nervous how they'll take the election. How many of them really are that partisan, verses either just hate Clinton that much or politically naive? Would they think of protesting. I remember people trying to get signatures or something the day after Obama was elected in '12. They disappeared by the following day. Trump is already feeding lies of voter fraud and quips on assassination. And some of these idiots aren't idiots when it comes to weapons.

I'm being very generous with that phrase, obviously.

To put it simply, very simply just for you, I do not view that up-until-recently-a-Democrat candidate as racist as you view him.

Since I see less racism there, I have less racism to oppose.

I don't reflexively automatically instinctualy brainlessly regurgitate the label "racist" to every Republican who becomes prominent

Me either, but in the case of Trump he is clearly xenophobic and racist. No he's not a member of the clan, but he's got his at about the described level. So, again, and this time without the insults, why won't you oppose Trump for all of his racism, xenophobia, authoritarianism, and idiocy? According to you, you only oppose one thing about him...

Racism, xenophobia, authoritarianism and idiocy weren't restricted to Trump in this cycle's Republican field.

What he promised more convincingly was to take a wrecking ball to the Establishment power structure. That's the part that I believe propelled him to winning the Republican primary.

The question for Trump (hahaha almost wrote Trimp) is are there enough voters in the general election that want to see the Establishment torn down so much that they can overlook all of Trump's other baggage?

If the answer is yes then he stands a good chance of winning. If the answer is no then he doesn't.

Also, I think it's hard to use the fact that racists are supporting Trump as evidence that he's a racist if you're not willing to extend the same courtesy to Hillary and use the fact that Establishment hack, neo-con warmongers are supporting Hillary therefore she's an Establishment hack, neo-con warmonger.

You know, calling people "idiots" is really going to change their mind.

They're idiots. No amount of reasoning is going to change their 'mind' (good choice of the singular form there, Jason - they have about the equivalent of one mind, shared between all the trumpsters).
But who cares? There aren't enough of them to put anyone in office, so it is best to ignore them and focus on the reasoning or semi-reasoning public that is amenable to persuasion by reason.

Siena released a poll today for NY. Trump is nearly just 1 in 2 Republican support in the state. 55% in two way, 52% in four way races.

If Trump were actually trying to win the election, he seems to have forgotten he never won the majority of Republican votes to begin with! The nation, by and large finds him unacceptable. His own party is really struggling with him.

Right, so it's looking like the answer is "no".

Drumpf appeal to xenophobes, bigots, people who feel left behind in the economy, and people who feel left out by current US society or nostalgic for the "old USA". I think it was obvious by the tone of patriotism in the Democratic convention that they are trying to appeal to those filled with nostalgia. Mrs. Clinton's recent speeches and commercials are, in part, appeals to those who have been left behind in the economy.

From the polls and studies I have seen, Trump is really only strong in one demographic - less educated white men. That is not sufficient to get him elected - he needs to make significant inroads with other voting groups. From I have seen, he has a long haul ahead of him to make those sufficient inroads. In other words, barring some major Clintonian scandal emerging, Mrs. Clinton need only cement her current standings in order to beat Trump. However, it is to her advantage to win over as many of the "marginalized" (the non-bigoted and non - xenophobic)supporters of Trump in order to help her establish a legitimate mandate.

Much like Palin, the more he talks and the people listen, the more they are turned off by the content free rhetoric.

Call me skeptical. He said those terms turned up from a "Donald Trump" word search on Google. Donald's own tweets would appear in those results, horrendously skewing the search. :D

How many times must I answer the question before you consider it answered?

I guess people will consider your answer when it doesn't contradict what you originally wrote.

I'm still trying to figure out what it is about Trump that he dislikes. We have a laundry list of things not to like about Trump that Jason does not subscribe to, but he is being very cagey about what it is that he doesn't like about Trump. Is this some kind of guessing game?

Let's see, here are the unlikable things mentioned about Trump in this thread that Jason doesn't care about:
racism
xenophobia
bullying
narcissism
rudeness
lying
anger
idiocy

There are probably a few I missed, but I think it narrows it down enough that I can make an educated guess. I think Jason dislikes Trump because of his hair.

Could be the whole hand size issue.

That's what I was just thinking. Those wee sausage fingers are creeeeeeepy. That's gotta be it.

Latest polls show that in red, red, red Texas, Trump now leads by 6% over Clinton. Trump is still ahead, but not by an conceivable lead. A couple of more goofs and bad debates could possibly turn Texas blue here. One can dream......

This has landslide written all over it. Romney won Texas by about 1.3 million votes. A 6 pt victory would be roughly 0.5 million.

A previous Texas poll was about 11 pts for Trump, so the PPP poll could be an outlier. Looking under the hood, I think maybe the poll indicates a better lead for Trump, but it is depressed from Romney's margin of victory.

We'll see if there are other polls. I still believe that Texas has some seats for the Democrats, which can help swing the House.

Jason was actually using a negative insinuation in order to achieve his political end--promoting Libertarianism:
Jason said:
Of course the reason I dislike him doesn't match the reason most in this forum don't like him.

He's trying to say that liberals are worse because they dislike Trump for superficial/irrational reasons while Libertarians like Jason dislike Trump for rational Reason X. Now, when I called him on it by listing 3 concrete things rationally to dislike about Trump he realized his political game was over so he decided to evade, evade, evade. See, if he lists concretely his Reason X, then it means he thinks no other reason is legitimate and bingo, his insinuation backfires.
