Dutch woman arrested in Qatar after making rape claim

How?

If she was raped, it doesn't matter what her job is. Further, they didn't arrest her for prostitution. They arrested her for adultery.

Qatar and the UAE are rampant with prostitution because the the the locals and expats) can't keep their brains in their trousers There is no proof here that this was anything to do with prostitution. Considering she reported being drugged and waking up in a strange place this would imply that what happened was not by consent.

Why was prostitution brought up, if not to smear the victim?

Prostitution is not a stigma in my book, so it is not a smear.

Prostitution's illegality puts the sex workers at great danger. It is a terrible state of affairs.

It was mentioned in the article but this was not material to the asinine judgment nor was there clear evidence she was doing this.

This was mentioned in some media.

Some Dutch media queried her account after it emerged over the weekend that her travelling companion had admitted to working as a prostitute. The woman’s mother confirmed that her daughter had converted to Islam, which the Dutch foreign ministry said was a “complicating factor” in the case.

Qatar is okay for hotel standards and now some modern shopping malls, but there's nothing much else. In the past few years some night clubs have emerged.

riiight.. and if she claimed that it was aliens that abducted her and put her there, then we would have proof of extraterrestrial life!

Not everyone is reading from your book. A smear is not less of a smear because of the existence of a handful of people who do not stigmatize a widely stigmatized behaviour.

Ok, so the real story was this:
This girl said she was going on holiday with a girlfriend to France, but in reality went to Qatar. She and her girlfriend (in any case her pretty hot girlfriend) were high class escorts going there for some big money (think over $1000 an hour).
Apparently she broke into an argument with a customer and this escalated. Her girlfriend tried to discourage her from going to the police, but she still did.

Police did what they always do in Qatar: Sex outside marriage is forbidden, so both are guilty. Family of the guy tried to persuade the girl to marry her so called rapist so they would both get dismissed (seems to be common practice in Qatar to prevent being jailed; after your release you divorce again), but girl refused (or rather her mum, because that seems to be mandatory in Qatar).

Is there any source for this information? Even if it is in Dutch?

This is the relevant topic in one of the biggest forums in the Netherlands:

From here, various links are provided to undercover journalist sites and crime sites with people having inside information or to articles in more mainstream media.

Who says they are still keeping the World Cup? The people that made the deal are going to prison.

Is that within the realm of realistic possibility?

The U.S. should get it. We don't have to build a damn thing. Or some other country that will incur negligible costs. Mexico could do it. Or dare I say that Mexico and the U.S. could share it.

I guess the final would be in Mexico, because the wall would prevent them from crossing into the USA.

Typical progressoauthoritarian ignorance. The Wall is to prevent illegal border crossings, it does not abolish legal crossings.

The problem is, USAians don't play enough soccer. If you did, you would know that if you build a wall, the neighbourhood kids are constantly climbing over it to get their ball back.

Oh, that's right, it's only supposed to block Mexicans, because they're all rapists. Thanks for clearing that up.

The post mentioned preventing illegal border crossings. This is what should also happen in Europe. It does not forbid everyone, just those who enter illegally.
