Election Night

I did my part and voted yesterday and was pleased to read about the results today.

Also thrilled that a transgender beat the "chief homophobe." :D

Oof. Well, I think the critical county to watch is Fairfax. Louden is a good bellwether too. I've worked the ground in both of those counties. Louden and Fairfax both tend blue, but Louden is much more purple, having been much more rural in the past, although it is now much more suburbanized. Anyway, a 45,017 D to 29,786 R split bodes well. So far, the map looks like it needs to look for a win, but high turnout in Fairfax and Louden could be enough to win it. A good minority turnout in Henrico and Hampton would also be a good sign.
Since Bilby is probably not familiar with Virginia county names, I must step in and correct you. It's Loudoun County. :)

:embarassed:

Well, the important thing is I spelled Fairfax right. :biggrina:

You are correct, i am not familiar with Virginia county names, but I am not entirely sure that your assumption that if I were, I would respond pedantically, is justified.

Oh, and 'bilby' is not capitalized in my screen name. :D

I am entirely sure. lol

I am aware. I choose to capitalize names regardless. Unless I'm being lazy, which I wasn't this time.

Just so we're all clear.

One thing I read was the last three off year Virginia elections, the Republicans received the same approximate number of votes. The Democrats have risen in the last two, increasing substantially in the vote a couple nights ago. The question is how much is this changing demographics and how much is the massive fire lit under the ass from Trump... and how much of this gets diluted with a federal election and higher turnout across the board.

The three politicians stated their demands were a response to Veterans Affairs (VA) banning Christian prayers at military funerals. VA, however, asserted that this claim was "blatantly false" and that VA respects a family's "rights to pray however they choose at our national cemeteries".[45][46]

Sounds like the VA did ban Christian prayers--at the funerals of those who didn't want them.

So overall, it seemed like a shoddy bill, with a funky stench regarding the 'Ohio has to pay us to help us defend the bill in court'. So a no vote seemed appropriate.

In other words, a typical initiative. 99% of initiatives are garbage even if they set out to do something good.

How in the world do you get that from the above???

Another one of the 87.4% of all statistics that are made up on the spot?

After seeing some Democrats almost but not quite win some special elections, this is very good news. But can it be sustained? Donald Trump's assholishness was a big provocation for many voters, but without him around, the Democrats would not have as big a villain to run against.

These victories have given Democrats a foot in the door, and they now have a chance to demonstrate that they can do something positive.
