Election: what made you happy, what made you sad?

Well, the happy part is that all the people who've spent the past couple of years going on about how Trump is an anomaly who doesn't represent America can now shut up and accept that he represents the country just fine.
You think people stop "russians did it" now?

No, the Russians still did all the shit that they did. This doesn't affect that.

Given all the years worth of conversations you've had with people on the subject, there's no excuse for such deliberate ignorance on your part ... aside from your paycheck, of course.

In Colorado, we defeated the measure for setbacks for oil and gas - created by misinformation from the Republic of Boulderites.

We elected the first openly gay male for a governor, yeah! Love that the women and Dems trampled their way to the House of Representatives.:applause2:

Oh, I forgot to mention! This was a gangbuster year for indigenous women!

In the Congress:

Debra Haaland (Laguna Pueblo) was elected to New Mexico's First Congressional District.

Sharice Davids (Ho-Chunk Nation) was elected to Kansas' 3rd Congressional District.

In state races we have:

Peggy Flanagan (White Earth Nation), new Lt. Governor of Minnesota.

Andi LeBeau-Clifford (Northern Arapaho Nation) to the Wyoming Legislature in House District 33.

Ruth Anna Buffalo, Mia Eh’Desh or Woman Appears, (Mandan and Arikara Nations) to North Dakota House of Representatives District 27.

Jamescita Peshlakai (Dinétah) re-elected to Arizona Senate District 7.

Jamie Becker-Finn (Leech Lake) MN House District 42B.

Mary Kunesh-Podein (Standing Rock) for MN House 41B.

Dawn Foster (Lakota Nation) for the South Dakota State Senate District 27.

Sally Ann Gonzales (Pascua Yaqui Nation) Arizona State Senate to represent District 3.

Victoria Steele (Seneca Nation) Arizona State Senate in Legislative District 9.

Watch out, elder GOP of the state legislatures! Indigenous women are known for "nevertheless persisting" when told to shut up!

It takes the women of the Indian Nations to go help take down the "Great White Father"

FYI, though, if they show up for the first day of work and find that someone sent a stack of blankets to their office as a welcome gift, they shouldn't use those blankets. There have been issues with this before.

I am very sad Beto didn't manage a win. he came closer than anybody could have predicted a few months ago, but that wasn't good enough. I am quite unhappy to see the GOP gained in the Senate. I am happy to see the House flipped. The next question for Bero is, what next? Presidential run? Attempt to defeat Sen, John Cornyn in 2020?

Yeah, no more need to keep re-stating the obvious, and Tump's denials will be in vain. Now we can sit back and await Mueller's findings. We already know what the Russians did in 2016. Now we may find out a lot more about HOW they did it, and with whose complicity.

I’m ecstatic. Don’t forget that it wasn’t a level playing field. It never is with Republicans. So in spite of all of their sometimes blatant (Texas) and massive attempts to cheat (Georgia), we still took control of the House. That means Mueller can finally start the heavy hitting.

Agreed, tho I'm a bit short of ecstatic. It's a repudiation of Trump, and that's the main thing.

California had two crappy candidates for governor and one of them won. Proposition six which was a measure to roll back a tax hike on gas and car registration and to mandate that any future increases be voter approved. But the ballot was rejected in part thanks to the sleight of hand used in the wording of the proposition. And the dopes here in CA voted in about $16 billion worth of bonds.

I'm looking forward to the day when I can leave this state.

Repudiation in some spots, but in general, those he campaigned for... won and by a decent margin, though tight in Florida, Arizona, and Montana. The posturing with Kavanaugh, the "caravan", the whining about the massing shooting taking the fire out of their torches, ... it all seemed to work, which remains frightening.

Much like how the Dems might have beat the Repubs by 5% and have a notably smaller majority (looking like 21 seat) in the House than the Repubs did with a 1% victory in '16 (47 seat majority).

Well, California Prop 6 failed due to deceptive wording by the state's attorney general. Polls showed when worded "cut the gas tax" people liked it and "cut funding" people didn't like it. Since the AG didn't like it, guess which wording he chose?

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this election. Dems took the House, Reps expanded their control of the Senate. A bit unusual. Unfortunately I think it is good news for Trump, as now he has the enemy he needs to campaign against. His position in 2020 is stronger than it was before this midterm. The Democrats still don't have someone strong to run against him, and Hillary is probably going to try to run again.

Sure the House will do lots of investigations now, but then what? Impeachment? In the Republican Senate? What do they realistically expect?

Isn't it adorable that people still use Hillary as the boogeyman?

It seems that the two big winners in the US election are gerrymandering and obfuscation. Oh, and Ted Cruz.

What made me sad was that despite being in Australia we got drowned in information about your elections.
:flooffrown:

Try living in Central Florida. Political ads are out of hand here near elections. Some commercial breaks were only political ads, no ads for goods or services.

Dems taking the house is a good thing, would have been better to get the Senate though.

Flipped the House, picked up seven governorships. The last midterm in a comparably strong economy, 1998, the incumbent party gained seats. And turnout was the highest in 40 years. Can't tell me Trump wasn't responsible.
