Two dates will always be remembered as the beginning of the end by those who chronicled (or will chronicle):

The first: in 406 AD the Nordic and Germanic tribes crossed the Rhine southward, pouring into Gaul, Italy, and Spain to claim their entitlements of plunder from civilized Europe, unwillingly provided by a supine population that had lost its will or pride to survive as Romans.

The last: in 2015 AD the Muslim, Arab, and African tribes are crossing the Rhine, north into the lands of the now civilized Nordics and Germans to claim their entitlements of plunder, this time willingly provided by a supine European population that has lost its will or pride to survive as Europeans.

They mark the beginning of their respective civilizations.

THE CAMP OF THE SAINTS IS HERE
Three news stories can be excerpted and presented with scarcely any comment. First, from the New York Times: “A Mass Migration Crisis, and It May Yet Get Worse.” http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/01/w...ion-crisis-and-it-may-yet-get-worse.html?_r=0

There are more displaced people and refugees now than at any other time in recorded history — 60 million in all — and they are on the march in numbers not seen since World War II. They are coming not just from Syria, but from an array of countries and regions, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza, even Haiti, as well as any of a dozen or so nations in sub-Saharan and North Africa. …

The Gallup Poll, based on data compiled from more than 450,000 interviews in 151 nations from 2009 to 2011, found that in Nigeria, which already has double the population of Germany, 40 percent of people would emigrate to the West if they could. And the lesson of 2015 — for them and much of the world — is that they can. …

“I don’t think this wave can stop,” said Sonja Licht of the International Center for Democratic Transition. “It can maybe from time to time be somewhat less intensive, we simply have to prepare. The global north must be prepared that the global south is on the move, the entire global south. This is not just a problem for Europe but for the whole world.”

Next, from the Gladstone Institute: “Germany: 20 Million Muslims by 2020.” http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/6793/germany-20-million-muslims

Germany’s Muslim population is set to nearly quadruple to an astonishing 20 million within the next five years, according to a demographic forecast by Bavarian lawmakers.

The German government expects to receive 1.5 million asylum seekers in 2015, and possibly even more in 2016. After factoring in family reunifications — based on the assumption that individuals whose asylum applications are approved will subsequently bring an average of four additional family members to Germany — that number will swell exponentially. This is in addition to the 5.8 million Muslims already living in Germany. …

The surge in Germany’s Muslim population represents a demographic shift of epic proportions, one that will change the face of Germany forever, “but we are just standing by, watching it happen.”

Addressing an expo in Nuremburg on October 14, [the president of the Bavarian Association of Municipalities, Uwe] Brandl warned that untrammeled migration will entail heavy costs for German taxpayers and may also lead to social unrest. He said:

A four-member refugee family receives up to 1,200 euros per month in transfer payments. Plus accommodation and meals.

Brandl said this also applies to the electronic health card, which provides asylum seekers with the same benefits as Germans who have paid into the health insurance system for many years. To criticize this as unfair has “nothing to do with racism or right-wing extremism.” …

The so-called non-paper [produced by German intelligence] (the author of the document remains anonymous) warns that the “integration of hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants will be impossible given the large numbers involved and the already-existing Muslim parallel societies in Germany.” The document adds:

We are importing Islamic extremism, Arab anti-Semitism, national and ethnic conflicts of other peoples, as well as a different understanding of society and law. German security agencies are unable to deal with these imported security problems, and the resulting reactions from the German population. ...

Western civilization, as developed in much of Europe, North America and a few other places (e.g., Australia) has proven decisively superior to all other civilizations on Earth. It is therefore not surprising that people who live in less successful, poorer, more violent, more repressive societies would prefer to live in the West (or, to put it in geographic rather than cultural terms, the North). But there is no possible way for the advanced Western countries to absorb the billions of people who would like to live in them, especially since most of those who want to enjoy the material fruits of Western democracy have little or no understanding of the values and principles that make Western societies successful.

Finally, from the Associated Press: “Immigrants caught at border believe families can stay in US. ”http://bigstory.ap.org/article/3ef5...ts-caught-border-believe-families-can-stay-us

Hundreds of immigrant families caught illegally crossing the Mexican border between July and September told U.S. immigration agents they made the dangerous trip in part because they believed they would be permitted to stay in the United States and collect public benefits. …

The Associated Press obtained copies of the interview summaries, which were compiled in reports by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Intelligence. They said hundreds of people traveling as part of families consistently cited opportunities to obtain permission to stay in the U.S., claim asylum and receive unspecified benefits. Immigrants spoke of “permisos,” or a pass to come into the United States.

Under federal law, individuals who are “likely to become a public charge” are not allowed to immigrate to the United States. This is one of many provisions of federal law that are routinely violated. Today, most immigrants are immediately placed in various welfare programs, starting with food stamps. It is taken for granted that many immigrants, perhaps most, will remain “public charges” indefinitely and perhaps for generations. Politicians of one of our political parties consider this a feature, not a bug.

The bottom line, it appears, is that The Camp of the Saints is here. Not someday, but right now.

In 476 the last Roman Emperor was dead. The German Tribal Leader, Odoacer, would inherit the broken remnants of a once great civilization, proudly declaring that "I am not a Roman, I am a barbarian". I suspect it won't take another 70 years before we hear the new invaders proud declaration of rule by an alien tribe.

Let the dark ages begin!

That's what Rome gets for being a socialist welfare state.

You mean free bread, meat, and circuses? Correct.

Then what are you complaining about? A soft culture was taken out by a more fit culture. As it should be.

If the muslim culture takes over Europe then obviously Europe was a soft culture deserving to be subsumed. It's how the markets of societies work.

Besides, what don't you like about muslim culture? Seems to be much less socialistic than the typical european culture.

Ya, but the Muslims have cellphones. You know who else had a cellphone?

Hitler, that's who.

...what don't you like about muslim culture? Seems to be much less socialistic than the typical european culture.

Their acts of violence and abuse of women.. and similar refusal to giving equal rights.
Their theocratic drive for religious law
Their tribal racism
Their diet (calls for elimination of tens of thousands of jobs)
Their general intolerance

.. not that many other religions are better, but Europe is more Secular than overtly (or fundamentally) religious. so I compare Muslims to Secularists, in this list.

While controls on immigration are necessary, we must realise that the US and its allies in Europe have created wars in the Middle East so naturally there are genuine asylum seekers being followed by economic migrants who are fleeing poverty.

Right. Sounds basically like the GOP platform. So what's not to like?

Two dates will always be remembered as the beginning of the end by those who chronicled (or will chronicle):

The first: in 406 AD the Nordic and Germanic tribes crossed the Rhine southward, pouring into Gaul, Italy, and Spain to claim their entitlements from civilized Europe, unwillingly provided by a supine population that had lost its will or pride to survive as Romans.
Unfortunately, the only historical source of this is St Jerome who cites it in a letter to wealthy patrons in an attempt to get donations. He lived approximately 1500 miles away at the time. No archaeological evidence exists of an actual mass crossing of the Rhine.

Why would one expect archaeological evidence for a tribal migration over a river, possibly frozen, 1600 years ago? On the other hand there is historical evidence, far more than a letter by St. Jerome (whose error may have been the crossing point, not the event on or near that date).

Wiki:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossing_of_the_Rhine

31 December 406 is the often-repeated date of the crossing of the Rhine by a mixed group of barbarians that included Vandals, Alans and Suebi. The Rhine-crossing transgressed one of the Late Empire's most secure limites or boundaries, a climactic moment in the decline of the Roman Empire that initiated a wave of destruction of Roman cities and the collapse of Roman civic order in northern Gaul, and that occasioned the rise of three usurpers in succession in the province of Britannia; hence the crossing of the Rhine is a marker date in the Migrations Period.

The full statement of received opinion has been that a mixed band of Vandals, Alans and Suebi crossed the Rhine at Mainz on December 31, 406, and began to ravage Gaul. Several written accounts document the crossing, supplemented by the time line of Prosper of Aquitaine, which gives a firm date of 31 December 406.

A letter of Jerome written from Bethlehem,[1] which gives a long list of the barbarian tribes involved, some of them, like Quadi and Sarmatians, drawn from history or literary tradition,[2] mentions Mainz first in a list of the cities devastated by the incursion; this is the sole support for the common assumption that the crossing of the unbridged Rhine was effected at Mainz. Jerome lists the cities now known as Mainz, Worms, Rheims, Amiens, Arras, Thérouanne, Tournai, Speyer and Strasbourg as having been pillaged.

The initial gathering of barbarians on the east bank of the Rhine has been interpreted as a banding of refugees from the Huns[3] or the remnants of Radagaisus' defeated Goths,[4] without direct evidence. A frozen Rhine, making the crossing easier, is not attested by any contemporary, but was a plausible surmise of Edward Gibbon. On the east bank, the mixed band of Vandals and Alans fought a raiding party of Franks.[5] The Vandal king Godigisel was killed, but the Alans came to the rescue of the Vandals, and once on the Roman side, they met with no organized resistance. Stilicho had depleted the garrisons in 402 to face Alaric in Italy.

Zosimus' New History (vi.3.1) imputes the usurpation of Marcus in Britannia to a reaction to the presence of barbarians in Gaul in 406; from a fragment of Olympiodorus, the acclamation as Emperor of Marcus, the first of the Romano-Britannic usurpers, took place that same summer.

Enough about Europe...

Yes, this is the only contemporary source. It is the letter I referred to. It was used by other chroniclers.

If these cities were sacked, they were sacked with ice weapons, because none of these places show any sign of sacking or attack in the late Roman Empire. (they were walled and would require a siege) Jerome is the only source stating such. As you can read above, there is no source for the Rhine freezing, Edward Gibbon made it up.

I love the overt racism in this thread BTW.

Well I actually respect Max for that. He calls a spade a spade. It´s the others that not only deny their own racism but insist that racism is not an issue anymore, those guys tend to be cowards. Max you know where he stands.

Xenophobia resulted in most European cities literally going up in flames, as little as seventy years ago.

Wake me up when immigration has done even 1% of the damage to Europe that the National Socialist movement managed to bring upon the continent.

Until then, I will be over here rolling my eyes at the insanity of people who want to solve a non-problem, by bringing back a set of ideals that almost destroyed western democracy.
