EDIT: My second prediction will be rhetorical hyperbole in the lines of, "Now that Chauvin has been found guilty, the elitist left are going to be emboldened on their war against justice and law enforcement. They are going to go after police even harder and won't stop until no cops exist in America.

From the New York Times opinion page:

Yes, We Mean Literally Abolish the Police

Told you guys the fix was in. The local jury did not want their city to burn down because #BLMers and Antifas got mad at the verdict.
And Maxine Waters muddying the jury pool was BS too.
So there should be an appeal.

I should have made a bet with Riley. He was sure there'd be an acquittal.

Or it could be they wanted a murderer convicted.

Okay, yeah. I was going off of a paused news video I was looking at. I truly hope he gets the max and spends his miserable life in endless appeals. Fuck that guy.

The Left: there is too much mass incarceration in the US and the sentences are way too long.
Also the left: I hope Chauvin gets the max.

This might be the stupidest post in this whole thread. There IS too much mass incarceration in the U.S., aaaaand, meaning at the same time, there are not enough murderer cops incarcerated.

Well, that's a bullshit argument. We all know that I and Mariame Kaba alone represent the left. You know, because of our incredible influence on US legislation. That's why cops will cease to exist by next Wednesday.

He's been found guilty of all 3 charges.
He'll be convicted of the worst one, 2nd degree murder.
He faces a max of 40 years for that.
Sentencing guidelines recommend 12.5 years.
If there are "aggravating factors" like a child witnessed it or he had priors, he might get sentenced to a longer time.
He has no priors.

Source

There were children in the small crowd who witnessed what he did.

Yes. I hope that's considered an aggravating factor. Maybe it'd send the message, to some ears, "you police damn well better listen when people want a murder stopped - including when YOU are the murderers".

Or it could be they wanted a murderer convicted.

Yeah.

But being rational isn't something 'mericans usually do.

it's ether burn the place down, save merica 4 mericans, or kill, kill, kill.

Ma git my gun we're going Anglo-Saxon fishing.

Wadda ya mean you can't find my gun. It's in a shoe box in Johnny's room.

Pretty much her entire statement (from CNN)

So Waters actually named a 'triggering event' for her incitement (the jury verdict) and told people who were already looting and burning to get more 'active', 'confrontational' - to escalate their actions.

If I was naive to the circumstances and somebody had asked me to read Trump's speech vs Waters' comments and ask which was closer to 'incitement', it seems like a slam dunk that it was Waters' comment.

Confrontation
Confrontation is an element of conflict wherein parties confront one another, directly engaging one another in the course of a dispute between them. A confrontation can be at any scale, between any number of people, between entire nations or cultures, or between living things other than humans.

It would be a tough call to claim she advocated violence.

As I said: so much the tougher to say Trump had advocated violence with his words.

Trump's second impeachment should be a lingering embarrassment to every single Democrat and Republican who voted for it. And people who think Trump used words meant to incite but Waters didn't should examine their own biases.

I suspect neither will happen though.

The cops will continue to exist next Wednesday because there are some far left proposals so nakedly, obviously, screamingly dangerous and outrageous and suicidal (like 'defund the police') that even the mainstream left cannot support it.

Don't forget prison abolitionists, who don't believe in prison at all.

I wonder if they'll have something to say.

Notice how conservatives are still having fantasies about riots after deliberately interpreting Maxine Waters' words in one way, even though it was conservatives who rioted at the Capitol.

First the people listening to Maxine weren't among the demonstrators in Minneapolis. Whereas those protesting in Washington DC were at the President's speech in Washington DC. It takes more that voices speaking from supposed authority somewhere else. It takes voices in power at where the riot might happen speaking directly to the potential rioters.

If Defense team appeals those lawyers should be disbarred.

Sorry, I read Trump's speech more than once. There was far more incitement in that. Not to mention Rudy Giulianni's speech just before Trump's.

But this is a derail, my last response on this subject.

Every time I hear right wingers bring up her comments I can't help but hear Patrick Stewart's voice in my head saying "Number One, set deflector shields to maximum!"

You don't get it. Such things are ok if you are a leftist.
You'd almost have a point if there was a riot or violence after Maxine Waters' statement and you could prove "confrontational" meant commit a crime. Unfortunately for you there wasn't and you can't. So, it is just another set of pathetic conservative "whataboutism".

The best thing? Not having to worry about a pardon from the White House.

IIRC they're state charges, so that wouldn't be a thing, but you can be sure that Trump would be opining about the "terrible injustice" of convicting someone who literally murdered another person on camera.

Oh, so there was "far more incitement" that you've opted out of citing. Okay.
