Government Shutdown Averted?

What exactly IS a "Government Shutdown"? Is it as dramatic as it sounds? Your cities will become anarchy with no police, fire department, schools, hospitals, or even military? Methinks the label is more dramatic than what is actually at stake?

State governments that provide that kind of service are not affected. Federal essential services will continue including all courts.

"Government Shutdown" is nothing more than hyped up bullshit. If the government "shuts down" don't expect any parts of the enforcement apparatus to shut down. You'll still pay taxes as well. You just can't go to the federal park.

Yawn.

People actually believe this "shutdown" is a big thing.

For someone who likes to pontificate extensively on how USAians should act, you sure seem to don't know shit about the USA.

I think he knows how inconsequential these phony shutdowns are, and is trying to get other people to realize that by asking the questions he asked.

Some people depend on their paycheck.

It is playing with people's lives.

For an unneeded wall to protect us from Mexico.

It IS a big thing to the people depending on paychecks they won't get during a shut down... during the holidays, no less

It's a shame. Not that I'd want government to shut down, but I'd much rather Congress see reason than Trump cave (or be overturned by a veto-proof majority).

Securing the border is one of the few good ideas Trump has.

When even a 8 month pregnant woman can climb over the existing fence with ease, it is obvious that it is woefully inadequate.

The wall is stupidity.

Red meat to feed racists and xenophobes.

If the US wants to do something productive it can end the drug war.

McConnell can go fuck himself. He is as big a liar as Trump.

First, this right here ^^^

Yep. It depends on whether or not you work directly for the government, how your job is designated, and the like. But it can have a big impact.

But the real point is that, if it weren't for the GOP yet again cowering in the face of the bigoted idiot that leads their party, a veto-proof spending resolution could be easily passed with veto-proof majorities, and Dolt 45 would just scream and cry from the WH or Mara-Lago or wherever. The GOP as a whole is failing the country by refusing to sideline him where appropriate - which, given his obvious idiocy, is almost everywhere.

On some shutdowns, the military was affected which meant that the contracts I work for were affected. No one was not going to be paid, but the company was not going to be reimbursed for any work completed while everyone at Special Projects was sitting at home on furlough.
So we were encouraged to take vacation, as the managers scrambled to find some funded contract for us to work on.

More hyped bullshit than holding a budget hostage over a stupid pipe dream of a Mexican border wall?

B-b-b-but that is NOT his idea. His idea is to build a $50,000,000,000 edifice to his own stupidity.
Apparently trumptards never heard of of ladders, tunnels, ramps, catapults, drones ... fucking SUBMARINES...
Yeah - shooting the wad on a WALL is a great idea.

This very stable genius with a very large ah-brain poked holes into the idea of a wall in less than 30 seconds:

Which does not require a wall that will not work. Duh.

There is a thing called airplanes that umm - people can fly over a wall....

There are other ways to secure the border that are more effective.

It shuts down non-essential federal services. Police, fire department, are not at the federal level. There are some good things about American Federalism.

But a lot of the government either works without pay (my sister had to do this last time around and she works for DHS) or just simply stops doing things.

I also wasn't aware that we had an issue with border security in the first place. Jordan was taking in thousands of Syrian refugees crossing the border a day. We get a couple thousand every now and then and people mess their pants.

America's problem isn't border security. It is dealing with innovation that eliminates jobs in all sectors across the economy. Some Americans whine about illegals coming to America and stealing jobs, yet tell workers at McDonalds that they can't have a living wage. This is such an obvious distraction... that has worked quite effectively.
