Hacked! - Parler, Conservative Alternative to Twitter

It's possible that Twitter has lots of policy problems, but I doubt Nazis would have the wherewithal to understand that realistically. They're just crying about not being able to spread misinformation.

Even if I believed you that "Nazis" were a significant proportion of Twitter,, leaving a platform that censors you in a way you don' like isn't "crying". Stopping (or never beginning) the use of a deodorant whose smell you don't like isn't "crying".

From everything I've seen from or about Parler, I would say, yes, it is a platform for delusional Nazis looking for a safe space to express their animal brain fear aggression without accountability.

Why do you find it so troublesome that somebody says something on social media without "accountability"? What does "accountability" mean to you? Are there opinions you'd like people to get in legal trouble for?

Let's see if I can predict Metaphor's latest whinge: pEoPlE ArE BeIng mEAn aBoUt My pOsItIoNS, AnD The things I AcTuAlLy SAid.

Metaphor, you whinge about censorship of other platforms. You actually said that the other platforms were rife with censorship, and awful for this reason. Parler is censoring but about this, you do not complain. You don't even mention it! It's like Harvestdancer when police beat protestors on camera: the one who is always full of words about things they don't like is somehow silent here! Ergo you like it!

Edit: I unignored him to look.. pretty much nailed it.

And in that whinge about my previous post, you STILL manage to fail to object to Parler's censorship.

LOLz. This is an anonymous forum.

Prediction: more whinging and not actually taking a stand on those vaunted principles against the censorship of Parler...

Accountable for spreading misinformation and hate speech. And "legal trouble" is YOUR language. I never said anything about legal trouble. I thought we were talking about getting kicked off social media, but it's very telling that in your mind we're talking about taking legal steps against users. Putting words in my mouth so you can project the fascism inherent to your world view is dishonest, and noted.

I don't care who claims they're not a Nazi. You don't have to claim it as an ideological identity for it to be true that your ideology is essentially the same as that of Nazis. So we say Nazi not because anyone claims to be but because it is useful shorthand for people of the same ideology.

People on Parler were kicked off for things like questioning the platform's identification policies. People on Twitter and Facebook post all kinds of negative shit about Twitter and Facebook and they are not kicked off. That's free speech. But on Parler, they don't tolerate criticism of Parler, just like any Nazi, authoritarian, dictatorial type of entity punishes anyone who questions them.

And it makes sense, to most of us at least, if not to the Nazis among us, that a site like Parler would demonstrate an authoritarian attack on criticism while allowing misinformation and volatile conspiracy theories to thrive. No one is surprised by this. Literally centuries of history predict it when certain ideological elements become widespread.

Dude, under the TOS of this forum, you can be suspended or banned for the same reasons as Parler. Parler did not banned users for their opinion or speech.

Oh, really? Do you have an example of this? No one has ever been banned for criticizing TFT. There have been users who break every line of the ToU harassing staff and disrupting the community with their temper tantrums and got themselves banned after months or even years of putting up with this behavior. Also, this site is a private site and our policies are written out and available for anyone to read. And that policy doesn't say "you can say anything you want here with impunity."

Let's see if I can predict Metaphor's latest whinge: pEoPlE ArE BeIng mEAn aBoUt My pOsItIoNS, AnD The things I AcTuAlLy SAid.

Not "people", Jarhyn. You. Worse, you have no fucking idea what I said because you have me on ignore. "Ignore" is fine, if you actually fucking ignore me. But you don't. Instead, you do the worst possible thing. You refuse to actually listen to what I am saying and then impute a position to me.

Metaphor, you whinge about censorship of other platforms.

I've whinged about the censorship of this platform. There are rules about talkfreethought I would change if I could, but they're not going to be changed. Okay. So either I accept that and use the platform or I accept that its value has been lowered too much for me to want to continue to use it.

But I'm not against rules about speech per se, no. For example, in a completely unmodded board, there'd be responses flogging multi-level marketing crap that is completely off-topic and irrelevant to everybody and nobody wants to see that.

You actually said that the other platforms were rife with censorship, and awful for this reason.

All platforms, I would say, including this one, restrict speech. Twitter is rife with censorship, much more than, for example, this board.

Parler is censoring but about this, you do not complain.

If Parler is censoring the "write in vote for Trump" posts as is being reported, then that's a strike against Parler. Ironically, that kind of post might very well be censored on Twitter too, or adorned with a warning from Twitter's "fact checkers", even though encouraging somebody to do something isn't a "fact" that can be "checked".

You don't even mention it!

If Parler is doing that, that's sad, because then its promise as a less censorious alternative to Twitter is diminished.

It's like Harvestdancer when police beat protestors on camera: the one who is always full of words about things they don't like is somehow silent here! Ergo you like it!

Edit: I unignored him to look.. pretty much nailed it.

It beggars belief, really, that you think I am dedicated to Parler somehow. If the Parler censorship story is true, then that's sad, because the main draw for Parler was the promise of a less censorious regime than Twitter.

Also, I might point out how Parler is actually censoring speech, re "boycott the runoff" chatter.

It was a question, Angry Floof. Notice the question marks? I didn't put words in your mouth. Get a grip.

I had not yet read your post with the links to people being kicked off Parler. It's difficult to know why they were kicked off without additional context. For example, one of the people who claims to have been kicked off says:
Pretty much all of my leftist friends joined Parler to screw with MAGA folks, and every last one of them was banned in less than 24 hours because conservatives truly love free speech.

Now, this seems to me these 'leftist friends' joined Parler specifically to harass people, so I'm not surprised they were kicked off. But I'd like to see what kind of posts got them "banned". I'd prefer people were not banned but that you could simply put them on "mute" if you want to. That takes care of harassment problems without censoring anyone.

You'll note that no one who was banned from Parler was banned for their speech or opinion.

Riiiiight. Because "screwing with libs" is free speech, but "screwing with maga morons" is not. And questioning the platforms policies and activities is also not free speech. We see you.

Um, okay. Post a picture of hardcore sex in this thread. One with in a donkey. Maybe even with urine and excrement. Let's see what happens.

And in case you missed it: Banned Members

Wow, 10 members over 6 years. Gosh those mods are terrible people.

It was a question, Angry Floof. Notice the question marks? I didn't put words in your mouth. Get a grip.
It was rhetoric intended to imply something, namely suggesting that I might support putting people in legal jeopardy when we are merely talking about getting kicked off of a social media platform. That strawman implication came from your head, no one else's.

Yes, screwing with people is exactly the sort of thing you and your ilk think is OK as long as it's trumpy Nazi dipshits doing it. AND those same trumpy Nazi dipshits get away with that on Twitter and Facebook. It's the lies and misinformation and hate that gets them in trouble, not the obnoxious "screwing with" people.

Now, this seems to me these 'leftist friends' joined Parler specifically to harass people, so I'm not surprised they were kicked off. But I'd like to see what kind of posts got them "banned". Right wing morons don't get banned from Twitter or Facebook for "screwing with people," and harassing people is not the same as trolling or annoying. People DO ignore them all the time. It's the spreading of hate and misinformation that they get banned for, and sometimes for actually harassing specific people (as opposed to just being general assholes that people can ignore).

Right wing dipshits get away with all manner of obnoxious behavior, trolling, screwing with people, and don't get banned for it. This goes for Twitter, Facebook, and here. But you're saying "leftists" joinged Parler to harass people, and not just to "screw with them"?

Make up stuff, conflate, switch goal posts, deflect ... It's all par for the right wing authoritarian course. All the worst of human thought and behavior pools in the direction of right wing ideology. This is not opinion. It's research. The dumber you are, the more dishonest, the more lacking in critical thinking skills and education, the more prejudiced you are, the more petty, the more insecure, the more materialistic, the more gratuitously hateful, the more right wing ideology will appeal to you, and in return, right wing ideology reinforces all that stupidity and meanness.

We expected this moronic shit to escalate after the election whether Biden won or not. Again, par for the course. We win = we have permission to escalate abuse of our outgroups and imagined enemies as we please, we lose = they stole the election and we are right to abuse our outgroups and imaged enemies as we please.

Ain't ya tired, Metaphor? Ain't ya tired?

You defined it as harassment without knowing if it's true or not. But even if it was, it's still speech. Or do you have a differant definition of free speech?

I don't know if you support it or not. Plenty of people do support legal consequences for "undesirable" speech.

Me and my ilk?

"Hate", per se, does not get people into trouble on Twitter. I've lurked long enough on there to see the unvarnished hatred people espouse without any consequences whatsoever.

Leftists was the twitter person's words, not mine. I 'm not quite sure that I believe his story that "all" his friends joined Parler and they were nearly all banned. But whether or not I believe it, I don't know what he means by 'screw with', but that does sound like 'harassment' to me. Maybe he meant 'challenge the opinions of', but he just meant 'challenge them in the cuntiest way possible.'

Make up stuff, conflate, switch goal posts, deflect ... It's all par for the right wing authoritarian course. I'm tired of the increasingly Orwellian space I am finding myself in, yes.

I said it sounds like harassment. But whether it is or not, I already said that's what 'mute' or 'ignore' is for. People are not obligated to listen to other people and I've never said otherwise. When somebody (or a bot) posts advertising/MLM shit on my social media, I block them.

You're the one that brought up leftists being censored for harassment (your word) and you seemingly approved of that. Now you're moving goal posts.

What? When did I say or imply I approved?

Falsely accusing others of crimes (such as voter fraud or child rape/molestation) ain't free speech. That's defamation.
