Trump doesn't care about cost. The dude dumped nearly $1 trillion a year deficits prior to the pandemic in his first term. He doesn't care about Ukraine at all, except in as much as Putin cares about Ukraine. DOGE is incapable of balancing the cost of the tax cuts Trump wants to make permanent. In fact, the GOP have to cut notably into Medicaid just to get the new debt of Trump's tax cut within reaching distance of the debt ceiling extension.

You just gave an excellent reason for Trump to stop sending money to Ukraine. I didn't say it was a good (morally or strategically) reason. But it seems to be his motivation

In the west right now, there's this idea that USA will always come and fix all our problems for us. The Cold War was a war between Russia and USA. Why? Russia was as much a threat to the rest of the world, as to USA. I don't understand why Americans aren't more annoyed by this. After World War 2 it was seen as acceptable that USA foot most of the bill, because UK and France paid a higher price for the war. But that was 80 years ago. I think the debt has been paid. A long time ago. I think Trumps complaint about Europeans not paying their fair share to fight dictators around the world is fair. No matter American "imperialism" they do give more in foreign aid than any other country. No, it's not just stuff that benefits USA. A lot of it is genuine samaritan aid. To make the world more free.

Then why was intelligence sharing cut off? Intelligence already obtained doesn't cost any money to pass along. That serves only to weaken Ukraine's position and force a surrender favorable to Russia's side. Also, why does Trump care whether the war continues or not once the US stops sending aid, if cost is the only concern? The war needn't end to minimize cost, and in fact can be a net benefit to our defense contractors who can sell arms to Europe and Ukraine if they can afford them (also increasing government revenue via taxation of wages and profits, protecting jobs, etc.)
