I don't see how. As long as there is another Putin waiting in the wings, Russia will always be Russia. It would take generations of halfway decent politicians running that country to effect any change.

If so, why would the west spend 30 years integrating Russia into global markets, investing in its energy sectors, building diplomatic ties. And etc. What drives most people in the west is making money. Big business. And war with Russia is very bad for business. Not bruise your ego, but the west is really far more worried about China aggression. And a weakened Russia empowers China. I fully expect China to start taking large chunks of Russia because Putin has made Russia so weak.

Secondly, a collapsed Russia would mean nuclear instability, refugee flows, global energy shocks (supply chain), more inflation and in general, massive economic disruption. No western government wants this. Stability is cheaper and safer.
