A great article explaining the mechanics of how Trump will try to overturn the election. Everything from breeding distrust, trying to get fake slates of electors, and ultimately relying on Mike Johnson to be speaker and engineer a coup.

The question is how do we stop it. I really think the only way is violence - or at least the threat of it. Maybe a massive strike.

Or Biden could use his executive powers and take out the Republicans and Trump.

Technically Trump has to lose first to steal it.

Trump technically lacks the ability to steal it. He needs the House and the Senate to go along with stealing the election. The Electoral College reforms make taking EVs out a dubious and useless tactic, so he would need both houses to disqualify the vote, which seems unlikely. Or he needs to disrupt the voting so badly that millions of ballots are destroyed and we don't know who won.

He has the local ground game going, but stealing an election isn't easy. The steps he has taken up to this point should disqualify him from the office, but as long he pwns the libs and promises a solid right-wing populist platform, enough will go out enthusiastically and the rest of the GOP base will enable the behavior.

What can we do to stop it? Vote. Win WI, MI, PA.

That’s not true if you have two key ingredients:

1) Sufficient number (26) of State legislatures dominated by your party, and

2) Sufficient number of congresscritters to send the decision “to the States”.

I’m pretty sure the Cheato Party has both.

I say nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

There is good reason to think even if Trump pulls off the White House and the GOP takes a bare majority of the senate (these days 53-47 seems like a super-majority but it ain't), the House should swap to the Dems.

Nuke what?
If Jeffrey was alive he could get fucktard to go back to his island and we could nuke it and him.
But alas, Jeffrey has taken his leave, and even scumbags like sleepy joe are not enamored of nuking our own Country.

Washington DC? It was joke. Maybe you never watched Aliens?

Which means that Mike Johnson wouldn't might not be Speaker.
FIFY.
The fascist party could lose the presidency and retain the House and flip the Senate.
That’s exactly what could happen. And then Trump has all the pressure in the world to flip the results. Any Republican who dared to stand up to him would be committing political suicide. I don’t think there’s enough who would.

There is a possible out. Trump is getting older. And he can do one more major grift of his supporters for hundreds of millions.

It would be interesting to see if he lost what happens to his Truth Social shares. In fact, I ponder him selling shares while it is this high.

If he sells any significant amount of that stock it will crash. If he loses the election it will wobble, and if his coup 2025 fails, DJT shares won’t be worth the paper they’re printed on. That’s why the annual premium to short the stock is between 5 and 10 times the cost of the stock itself.

I don't give a damn about Truth Social. The real question is whether people will take to the streets and ensure that trump does not take power illegally. I suspect many will, but I don't really know if Americans are any longer willing to fight for their freedoms and will simply acquiesce in the scheme in the end. Throw up their hands and are too afraid to risk their all for the future of a free and democratic nation.

I think people are fundamentally naive about the prospects here. The only hope is that the democrats retain power in at least one of the houses of congress - where 94% of the seats are safe and where the Republicans are projected to win numerous new senate seats. I am skeptical of that happening even if Harris wins.

But is a civil war inevitable? it takes more than simple mass protests. It takes people willing to fight and die for the future. A civil war takes leaders willing to declare it. It would take democratic governors willing to support it and even encourage it. It would take Kamala Harris to declare it.

The question is what would be left of our country if any of this happens? Probably a shell of our former selves with cities in ruin. I think it would be far worse than the movie that just came out about it. Sad, but I fear that the only two options are accepting a future of Republican rigged elections or simply open violence.

Civil War is big talk, but even bigger action. And there are no real boundaries to abide by. The original civil war had the state secession drive it. The NE and W/SW isn't leaving, and it isn't as if the interior/South is leaving either. Violence in the post-election US isn't a certainty, even if Trump loses. Trump riles a lot of people and he only had a relatively small showing on January 6th. And many of them are in jail now. Committing to political violence is difficult. I would only think the threat real if Trump offered pre-emptive pardons before January 6th.

The trouble is, we are returning back to the 1950s at the moment... just without the robust manufacturing economy. SCOTUS seized power last term that will change everything regarding Federal Regulatory powers. Regarding civil liberties, the goal appears to be pre-14th Amendment protections. That is already happening.

So are you saying we should just accept a Trump coup and ignore it? If not, what is the appropriate action? If we don't resist it, then we the Republicans will control everything permanently. They will challenge any democratic win of the house and senate and President Trump will back it and the republican controlled congress will refuse to allow the election of democratic candidates - or at least not enough of them to ever take power. Our fundamental democratic rights to choose our leaders is lost.

Yeah. Probably so.

Typically, this would be protest in DC thing. But there are a lot of steps that would need to be required for Trump to pull off a coup and plenty of opportunities to pressure Congress via protest not to do something illegal.

You are getting ahead of yourself here. Trump can't become President without Congress. And it would appear the Dems will control the House. That will make an electoral steal much much harder, potentially impossible. Let's put our energies within the current scope of issues.

I was driving home today listening to NPR —and Trump may have shot himself in the foot by letting a comic perform a racist set at one of his recent events, during which time the ‘comic’ referred to Puerto Rico as a floating island of garbage. There are a lot of Hispanic voters in PA, particularly of Puerto Rican heritage.

I hope the wound bleeds and festers and turns to gangrene and ends this menace.

But we will have to be extremely vigilant because JD Vance is not a senile old fool.

Most Civil Wars are not fought between clearly defined sub-regions of the nation that succumbs to them.

The American Civil War was an outlier in this regard; Indeed it was so abnormally geographically defined that some historians don't consider it a Civil War at all, but rather a war of reconsolidation between two briefly independent countries, whose victor absorbed the defeated nation. The Confederacy seceeded from the Union, forming a new nation; The two nations fought a war; And the Union re-incorporated the Confederacy. Throughout the war, you could draw lines on a map dividing one side from the other, in two clearly defined and largely contiguous territories.

Most Civil Wars are not like that; The country embroiled in such a war shatters into a fine-grained patchwork of areas loyal to one side or the other, with the largest contiguous area in support of only one of the sides being on the scale of a city or town, and many cities and towns themselves being divided.

It's also common for a third "side" to develop in such a war, of beligerent neutrality - regions, cities and towns whose population take up arms against either of the two side fighting the war, basically saying "if you must fight, you can't fight here".

The (first) American Civil War was uncharacteristically tidy. You are unlikely to be so fortunate a second time.
