If there was any doubt MAGA is a cult

Oh yeah? Well, Biden this, Biden that. Blah blah blah blah blah. Biden. Libs owned.

A new psychological study has found that people who report favorable views of Donald Trump also tend to score higher on measures of callousness, manipulation, and other malevolent traits—and lower on empathy and compassion. The findings, based on two large surveys of U.S. adults, shed light on how personality traits relate to political beliefs, including support for Trump and conservative ideology. The research was recently published in the Journal of Research in Personality.

Malevolent personality traits—sometimes called “dark” traits—include tendencies such as manipulativeness, callousness, narcissism, and a lack of empathy. These traits are often captured by concepts like psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism, which together reflect a general disposition toward exploiting or disregarding others for personal gain.

There's some of that in the MAGA crowd. There's also a truckload of cognitive dissonance from the Trumpaholics who don't display Trump's malevolence, racism, and narcissism. I've often heard this bunch saying things like, "I don't like how he treats people, but that's just his way." All of Trump's immaturity and rage is swept away in that phrase. "Just his way."
I have two born-again cousins -- sisters -- who are as conservative Christian as you can get. The one with children has raised them in the faith. Both sisters shun the vulgar, sin-filled secular world. At least one is an anti-vaxxer and thinks climate change is a hoax, and the other has stated that she cannot believe the earth is anywhere near 4 billion years old, and that Darwinism is false. One of them told my mother that she should stop watching Love Connection, because it would pollute her mind. When I gave her family a copy of the spy thriller Eye of the Needle, which has -- I know this will shock you -- one bare breast, she told me that she "didn't appreciate the steamy scenes." The anti-Darwin sister is a pro-life activist, and has given press interviews on the movement.
You can guess where this is headed. Our fart-blowing wild boar of a President is their hero. He calls people 'scum of the earth' and worse. He's said bastard, shit, fuck, and motherfucker at rallies. Trust me, if I said those words in their presence, they'd be offended, and they'd let me know it. But Trump has more Teflon on him than Reagan dreamed of. He can do no wrong, because in their eyes, he's a tough man who somehow raises our profile in the world, and most important, has taken on the fight against abortion. This is the ultimate in cognitive dissonance. They have constructed a wall against discerning his horrible personal qualities. (They probably believe he's a Christian, or, in that detestable phrase, a "baby Christian", an imperfect vessel chosen by God to...can't finish the sentence, it's too vomitous.)
