Trump has threatened to "defund" CA of all federal money if it passes a sanctuary state law. If that happens, then all CA residents should immediately stop paying any federal taxes in turn.

As a Washington resident, I'd like to nominate Washington and Oregon as well. All three of the western states pay out more in taxes than what we receive back.

Well, the upcoming trade war is not going to go well for the western states. For example, I have a manufacturing client that relies on 8 countries to provide components for his products. His units are 70% made in the US (including all RD, finance, management and etc.). The Trump team has no idea how the supply chain works and how disruptive his trade policies will be. It will take years for some of our companies to redo their sourcing policies.

Funny thing, a state you'd think would be high up on the welfare state list would be Kansas, but they are actually a donor state. In general, the donors are blue, but there are a few reds. I presume that means fewer military bases.
It is not clear whether WalletHub takes into account noncash Federal agricultural supports (or, I suppose, cash ones that go to agribusinesses whose headquarters are outside of Kansas but which have operations there).

But isn't your guns and military controlled by those who would stop you, and didn't your civil war establish the precedent that you can't just leave? I am afraid California is a slave to the union, and the best you can hope for through a Calexit movement is to show that to the world, undercutting the USA = Freedom narrative your union tries to push.
