Immigration Issues

Guys, women have been dealing with this level of…..scrutiny after being raped or beaten or murdered forever.

I recognize that some people truly have difficulty with the notion that those in power do wrong. It upsets the order of things: leaders are persons worthy of respect …and obedience. Trust. It’s really really hard when those we should be able to trust violate that trust. But sometimes that happens and sometimes we find out that the person(s) we had so much trust and faith in did something wrong. Well, we all do something wrong sometimes. I’m not talking about making a bad decision but also doing something that we know is wrong. Usually it’s fairly innocuous and easily forgiven and forgotten. We drive a little fast or don’t completely sort recyclables or shout at someone who did’t deserve it. We’re impatient when patience is called for. We all engage in that type of behavior and we all owe each other and ourselves grace for those small transgressions.

But sometimes those small transgressions are not so small and venture into real harm or illegality. Because they are also human, so our leaders, those in charge sometimes. Make errors in judgement or deliberately flair rules and laws. Because they have greater power and authority, the potential for greater, more far ranging harm exists with leaders and those in power. But they chose those positions of power and they have even greater responsibility to hold to rules and regulations and to not violate our trust.

It can be very hard to admit that those we have trusted have violated our trust. Sometimes we blame ourselves or other: Our parents only hit us because we were bad. They drink or drug because life is so stressful. Our partners just learned poor coping mechanisms from their f’d up families. If I had only been more attentive/richer/thinner/a better lover, my partner would not have cheated. And we rationalize our own behavior, too.

Because it’s really scary to admit that someone we care about deeply has violated our trust. What can we trust if we can’t trust Mommy or Daddy or beloved or the police or POTUS.

Seems Pretti was not the mild mannered nursey portrayed

A protester who appears to be Alex Pretti was filmed spitting at a federal SUV, smashing its tail light and fighting with cops 11 days before the shooting that shocked America. Facial analysis of the new video has been given a 97 percent probability that the man in the footage was Alex Pretti, according to The News Movement. In the new video, the man believed to be Pretti is seen wearing an identical brown outfit to the one the nurse wore on the day of his death. The clip begins with him angrily spitting at the window of the Ford Expedition SUV filled with federal officers conducting raids to arrest illegal migrants, with the man believed to be Pretti heard screaming 'F*****g trash' at officers. As the Ford begins to pull away, the furious agitator angrily kicks its tail light, shattering it.

Daily Mail

I saw that, and yes, there’s video showing Pretti spitting at a federal SUV, kicking out a taillight, and clashing with agents days before the fatal encounter. But none of that justifies what happened next: a federal agent who watched another agent take Pretti’s gun from his holster, then drew and fired his weapon.

And nobody, not one person on here (as far as I know) has said that the shooting of Pretti was justified.

Where did I claim someone did? You shared an article about a prior incident Pretti had with ICE, and I made a statement about it.
Did I say the shooting was justified? No.
Using weasel words to indirectly justify it isn't any better really.

What "weasel words" have I been using to indirectly justify Pretti's shooting? I have never said Pretti's shooting was justified, nor do I even remotely think that Pretti's shooting was justified. The tragic death of Pretti (and indeed the shooting of Renee Good) are consequences of reckless decisions.

I never said you claimed the shooting was justified, so I’m genuinely confused by your response.

As I am yours because if I never said the shooting was justified, why bring it up?

The thread title is literally “Immigration Issues.” ICE is immigration law enforcement. You posted an article about a prior encounter Pretti had with ICE, so I responded in terms of how that relates to ICE’s actions in the fatal encounter. My point was that the earlier incident doesn’t justify what ICE agents did later. If not for discussion, what did you post the article for?

You keep repeating the same thing, countering an argument nobody on here made and a position nobody on here holds. Truly bizarre.

1/24/26 - Pretti is murdered by ICE officials after he was disarmed and was posing zero risk to ICE, as documented in several videos taken from the incident.
1/28/26 - TSwizzle's posts first of seven posts that are critical of Pretti's actions, calling him an "agitator", "soft headed fool", "activist agitator".
1/29/26 - TSwizzle's first post indicating they thought shooting wasn't justified.

Gosh, how could anyone have mistaken how TSwizzle thought about the killing?

I wasn’t responding to a claim someone made. I was giving my own opinion on how the article you posted relates to ICE’s actions in the fatal encounter. When material about a prior confrontation with ICE is shared where the fatal encounter was being discussion, it’s reasonable to address how that context connects to ICE’s later actions. It's truly bizarre you don't know this.

Ah, so summary execution was justified.

Jesus fucking christ. I saw an article on this this morning and knew it would take about 20 minutes for Trumpite authoritarians to now express joy and feel justification for ICE flat out murdering someone.

See post #934. Every post is about Pretti and his actions. Charitably, only the most passive language about the unjust actions of the agents.

Post 934 is not my post. But in any event, the ICE agents were bang out of order shooting and killing Pretti. I think everyone on here agrees with that.

But the point remains, Pretti wasn't just a hapless protestor standing on the sidewalk and executed by ICE. Pretti appears to be an unhinged activist/agitator inserting himself into an ICE operation putting himself and others in a bad situation. His recklessness (and others) has consequences. You think the MAGAS are pleased with this outcome? Their pleasure is probably mute compared to the shady activists who revel in this type thing.

Screwed up quote tags somehow so the above cite is not from Millrat but Swizzle. My bad. I would never want to impose Swizzle’s opinions on rational people.

The quote tags are less screwed up than TSwizzle accusing me of arguing against something no one even said. Who claimed Pretti was a “hapless protester"? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You have any Idea?

Yes, it's true; You do appear to be a disingenuous slimy git, who implies and insinuates that which he dare not say. Or perhaps just a dimwitted useful idiot, mindlessly regurgitating propaganda while oblivious to its subtext.

The passive voice is a wonderful thing. Those reckless decisions, floating around without a decision maker to attach to, are such an amazing phenomenon.

Blame could lie anywhere. Nobody knows who made a reckless decision, it was just made, all on its own.

I guess everyone is equally to blame here.

Federal Judges are getting sick of the lies from ICE.

“Unreliable,” “untethered to the facts” and “simply not credible.”

As the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown moved from Los Angeles to Portland to Chicago last year, that is how federal judges described claims made by the government in court.

...

Agents later wrote that “multiple warnings” were given, and a “considerable amount of time” passed before the canister was thrown.

Body camera footage, however, shows about five seconds elapsed between an agent’s first warning and when gas was deployed.

...

As people scattered in Albany Park, an agent claimed in a situation report that one protester “threw a bicycle toward the agent who deployed the munition.”

But body camera footage shows the opposite: It was an agent who picked up the bike and tossed it to the side before shoving a person to the ground.

...

When agents were ready to leave, Chicago Police officers arrived to monitor the crowd so they could drive away. Soon after, federal agents began tossing tear gas toward the crowd and police, who were not wearing protective gear, video shows.

“Some agents threw canisters directly at peaceful observers who were simply standing on the sidewalk,” the judge pointed out.

A Border Patrol incident report says agents deployed gas because the crowd was “enraged towards CPD,” “began pushing and shoving CPD officers,” and “began throwing objects including what appeared to be bottles, rocks, eggs, and pieces of concrete.”

Body-worn camera footage, however, “calls this account into question,” Ellis wrote.

“Instead, it appears that agents began deploying tear gas, without warning, after one or two protesters threw objects in their direction,” she said. The video, shown below, also does not appear to show people pushing officers.

...

The judge accused top Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino, who has orchestrated sweeping crackdowns in Los Angeles and Chicago, of “outright lying” as he defended his agents’ tactics.

Both Bovino and DHS claimed tear gas was thrown because Bovino was hit on the head by a rock or other object thrown by a “mob of rioters.”

But, the judge said, “Bovino admitted in his deposition that he lied multiple times about the events that occurred in Little Village that prompted him to throw tear gas at protesters.”

....

After the incident, DHS released a heavily edited video compilation of body camera and other footage, claiming that a “crowd of 75-100 rioters” surrounded and boxed in agents, threw rocks and other objects and “shot at agents with commercial artillery shell fireworks.”

In unedited body camera footage, an agent lobs what appears to be a flashbang into the air, which explodes in the same spot seen in the DHS video.

Lying is just how the entire Trump administration operates.

I've observed that nearly everything that drools out of Trump's mouth is a lies. Why not the whole administration?

But these agents and DHS lying to the courts should get them held for perjury.
