ISIS has been in the new much recently. They say either you convert to islam or face torture and death. But are these ideas new? Have we not heard/faced them before? Here in the US i am told that either i convert or else! face torture without end - that is actually worse than what isis is doing. Couched in nice language doesn't make it any less evil - "God loves you, he doesn't want you to go to hell"
ISIS is just the latest symptom, it is not the disease. The Swastika is not the problem, the real problem is the hate nurtured against Jews thru all these centuries. The Confederate flag is not the problem, racism is. Too often we tackle the symptom instead of focusing on the disease.
Which brings me to ask the question - how is it that these ideas of dividing people by religion, God hates you because you got his name wrong - ideas like these go unchallenged for so long? Have you heard of any good people, whether chritian, muslim or Atheists, Hindus or anyone else raising a voice against such ideas?
God is not just a name - if the reader was named differently would that change who he or she is? How do you pick your friends? because of their names? One friend named Todd moves away across the country, so you find a guy named Todd to replace him? How did you get your job? a promotion? They gave you your job because they liked your name?
How is it that such a simple concept escape millions? I can understand christians and muslims, they seem brainwashed by the prospect of an easy life in heaven, they are quite happy to throw grandma under the bus. What is our excuse?
What ISIS is doing is evil, but a being upstairs does the same thing and millions are ready to praise such a being? Which century are we in? How can we let these old primitive ideas hang around? Let's see if i got this God thing down - a super being created all of us, this planet, this galaxy and all others, maybe containing millions and billions of life forms. He watches over us to make sure we boost his ego by praying to him. And more important, we must get his name right - those who don't get tortured without mercy? Seriously? In the 21st century?
When good people stand around in silence, that is when evil reigns
