January 6 Hearings Live

On January 6th, Trump watched the Capitol being attacked and he said "cool."

More like he was cheering wildly for a team that was 74 points behind at the Superbowl performing a final hail mary play. After the touchdown, no one tapped him on the shoulder to say, "they still lost".

So, this women gets 1 yr in prison for defrauding people of $400,000 on GoFundMe. Trump (and the GOP)... actually it was more The GOP (and Trump) defrauded Americans of hundreds of millions on their stupid fundraising website... and no jail time.

Yes well, that's how America works.
You specifically target a racial and/or economic demographic for selective legal persecution, and then after decades of doing that you go "see? poors/blacks/whatever commit more crime, so we *have* to treat them as criminals"

You can't go around actually holding rich and/or powerful people accountable for their actions, or else in the future where you fantasize that you've become rich and powerful you can't masturbate while thinking about owning people and oppressing women without consequence.

The Trump post riot speech outtakes. Jebus!
That was frightening.

I think the part of Trump claiming the rioters were "Antifa" was classic Trump.

The revelation that the Pence's Secret Service detail was calling their loved ones to say good bye should drive home the seriousness of the situation to all but the most diehard Trumpsuckers.

Or the fact that Pence the most loyal of the loyalists was going to be squashed under Trumps shoe as he trampled his way to stay in power despite his loss.

Bannon found guilty. Only took 3hrs for deliberation.
Yeah, both counts.
Now … the endless appeals begin, as we await a pre-sentencing hearing, eventually followed by sentencing. If he is not made to go to jail in the meanwhile, it a toss up as to whether he will ever serve a minute.

What is it with rich people not having to go straight to jail like us little people do?

I guess it follows the parallel, 10 dead people is a tragedy, 1,000,000 is a statistic. Of course, on the other hand, the GOP should be forced to go to court to point out their supporters are the dumbest fuckers in the world... and they knew it and exploited it. However, even then, they really are stupid (partisan wise) and wouldn't even blink to giving $250 more to the cause to "investigate the election"*.

You know, 1/6 was pretty fucked up. The idea that the Secret Service might have conspired as part of it... I can't wrap my head around that.
I'm trying to figure out which part regarding the Secret Service was more fucked up.

On the one hand, there's the part where they had the President in the SUV and refused to take him to the Capitol. That's...good? On the other hand, they seem to have very much wanted to spirit Pence away from the Hill so that someone else could step in and take over the electoral vote count. That's bad. Now there's the "dog ate my homework" excuse. That's...really?
Wanted the coup to succeed, but also wanted to keep Don the Con, the the President, out of physical danger, and , also, if the coup failed, keep him out of visible culpability.

Bannon is found guilty. He'll need to get a better lawyer next time.

Stephen K. Bannon, the right-wing podcaster and longtime confidante of former president Donald Trump, was convicted Friday of contempt of Congress for his refusal to provide documents or testimony to a House committee probing the Jan. 6, 2021 attack.

The trial, which lasted a week and only featured two witnesses, tested a rarely-used criminal statute meant to ensure that people comply with congressional subpoenas. Earlier this month as he prepared for trial, Bannon had vowed to go “medieval” on his enemies. But most of his legal arguments were rejected by the trial judge, and Bannon ended up calling no witnesses.
The appeal process is about to get started. Too bad we can't hold him in prison while we wait for that to finish up.

I simply don't understand why they have to wait until October 21 to sentence him. He didn't put up a real defense, and the jury didn't waste time in finding him guilty. But the legal system then grinds to a halt for three months to figure out what to do with him. He probably won't even spend that long sitting in jail for his contempt of Congress.

I believe he intends to mount an appeal. On what grounds? I have no idea.

But: Bannon fucked around and found out. Hoping he gets the max. In real prison.

Mr. Bannon is fortunate the US will not go "medieval" on him.

(CNN)Secret Service investigators were scrutinizing the phones of 10 Secret Service personnel that contained metadata showing text messages were sent and received around January 6, 2021, but were not retained, two sources told CNN.
The scrutiny came after the Department of Homeland Security inspector general asked for the text records last year of 24 individuals at the Secret Service who were involved in January 6, but only one text had been produced. After the issue spilled into public view this month, the inspector general launched a criminal investigation into the matter, and lawmakers demanded answers from the Secret Service to go back and find out what happened to the texts that may have been deleted.

Bannon has just now been found guilty of failing to appear pursuant to a subpeona. Peter Navarro is scheduled to go to court in October on the same charge. Bannon is scheduled to be sentenced in October. And of course there will be a hopeless appeal.
