January 6 Hearings Live

But with Trump's Law, it is impossible to tell if the memes are actual accusations or ironic (both?).

The Trumpist who posted it on my feed certainly took at as given that he was antifa. She has since moved on to the position that the whole thing was a false flag operation because there was no way a mob could have gotten past the capital police.

I wonder how she squares this away with the fact that many of the participants have Aesetru tats? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm norse and love the pantheon, but the Aesetru religion has more of a white supremacist image problem than Islam has an Islamist problem fucking with their image and that's saying something.

She doesn't square it with anything, she just takes a sledgehammer to the round peg to make sure it either fits in the square hole or smashes the whole damn thing. Then she moves on to the next round peg, square hole explanation for why Trump is the greatest person ever.

As he does so often Stephen Colbert provides an excellent summary of America's recent Day of Shame:

On another technical matter, if the Turd is removed from office before Inauguration Day, whether via impeachment or the 25th Amendment, will Pence then go into the records as 46th President, with Biden 47th? (Obviously Pence, being a Republioturd, could never have the grace to cede the baton directly to Biden, nor — to avoid a legalistic nitpick — to next-in-line Speaker Pelosi.)—

I look at this attack and I think "It ought to be a simple matter to close all the doors". I then looked online and I found several image files of Capitol-building floor plans.

It looks like it should be easy to secure the building. It does not have very many doors. It also should be easy to block access between its main parts.
What did the Capitol Police expect to do? If they couldn't hold off that crowd of MAGAts, then they could have retreated to the doorways. If any of them got breached, then it's a simple matter to alert everybody inside to retreat to away from the breach.

Our republic is in great danger, and it is imperiled further without swift action to protect it.

The President incited an attack on Congress. He is deeply unstable. The Cabinet must invoke the 25th amendment.

Congress must also pursue impeachment and removal of the President.

Additionally, Congress must pass @RepCori’s resolution to investigate for sanction and expulsion any member of Congress who helped incite this attack on our nation.

If the 25th amendment is not invoked today, Congress must reconvene immediately for impeachment and removal proceedings.

Articles of impeachment have already been drafted and are ready for introduction. They were prepared and finalized by @IlhanMN while she was extracted in a secure location, and members are signing on.

You can see further here. Either way, we do not have the luxury of time.

Impeachment is off the table; Pelosi adjourned the house until after the inauguration.

25th is most likely off the table as that would require Pence doing something more than lip service to having a spine.

This doesn't make sense. I just watched a video of her saying one or the other. Do you think she got assurances of the 25th? Or maybe Trump will say he's sick or something and let Pence take over temporarily? I don't get it. Why would she say that and then adjourn unless there was something?

Words...words generally cost nothing.

I'd love to be wrong. But I doubt she would adjourn the house specifically until after the inauguration if she were planning on calling a special session.

And assurance? From Pence? What would that be worth?

"Yesterday's storming of our Capitol was a direct attack on our democracy--and it was incited by President Trump. We have to call it what it was: domestic terrorism.

"After orders to shelter-in-place, I stayed in a House office building with another Congressmember and two staffers. We barricaded ourselves in with a couch, turned off the lights, shut the curtains, and remained silent. Due to COVID precautions, we were the only ones in the office. After about six hours, we emerged from the office in search of Capitol Police, as none had confirmed our whereabouts and safety. We are safe, albeit shaken.

"I was able to join colleagues to finish certifying Joe Biden's election early in the morning, but our work is not done. Congress has serious work to do to provide the necessary accountability so doesn't happen again. Here is how we move forward:

"First, the House Oversight Committee must conduct a full investigation of the violent, unlawful events yesterday. The American people rightly have questions about how this happened, why government agencies failed to coordinate, and why Capitol Police wasn't adequately prepared and failed to secure the seat of our democracy. The Oversight Committee is the best forum to get those answers.

"Second, the President must be removed from office. If a majority of the cabinet and two-thirds of Congress will not invoke the 25th Amendment, the House must proceed with articles of impeachment. President Trump is an imminent danger to our democracy. "It would be a mistake to wait for the President-Elect's inauguration in an effort to put this behind us. Our duty demands today to provide accountability."

Katie Hill on Twitter: "My statement on yesterday’s insurrection. 👇🏼 https://t.co/0QqbESlMQa" / Twitter
Former Rep. Katie Hill's Statement on Yesterday's Insurrection Washington, D.C. - Two years ago, it was an honor to be sworn in as a freshman member of the 116th Congress. I decided to run for office in the first place because of what so many of us knew: Donald Trump was one of the biggest threats we have seen to our democracy. What happened yesterday was the inevitable outcome of a presidency that was entirely focused on accumulating and holding onto authoritarian-like power while stoking the flames of division, hatred, and fear.

It was no surprise that violent extremists were going to attack the Capitol-the President himself repeatedly and explicitly invited and encouraged them to do so. But the predictability of their horrific actions made it no less terrifying to witness in real time. Throughout yesterday, I couldn't help but think about all of the important votes I took in that chamber, about all of the history in the building that was being desecrated, and most importantly, about the safety of my friends who continue to serve. I am so grateful that, even though law enforcement utterly failed to adequately prepare for a well-known, planned, coordinated assault, all of my former colleagues and their staff made it out safely. Their bravery in those moments, and their courage to go back and finish the business of the people by certifying President-elect Joe Biden's election, was remarkable. We all must be very clear that the events of yesterday occurred because Trump told his people to storm the Capitol. He was the arsonist who set the fire in plain sight, and the Capitol will forever be stained with blood because of him and his enablers. And again, let's be clear: Trump's enablers are the Republicans in Congress who stood by and either vocally supported his dangerous rhetoric or stayed silent in the face of his hate. Sadly, one of those enablers is the Republican who now represents my hometown, Mike Garcia. Though he only won his election by few hundred votes, and Biden won our district by 10- points, Garcia still stood up in support of undermining the election results and supporting the lies perpetuated by Trump which led to yesterday's insurrection.

It's time for expulsions in the House and the Senate and full prosecutions of everyone who incited this - including Rep. Mike Garcia. Congress should reconvene and move on this immediately, as well as initiate the process of Impeachment. And, those in Trump's cabinet have an obligation to invoke the 25th amendment rather than resign in cowardice. Now is the time to act.

The incoming Biden administration must extinguish this virus of domestic terrorism and white supremacy that has been allowed to spread unchecked or far too long, with the same urgency that it works to extinguish COVID-19.

Anything less will not suffice.
