Yeah, that was my concern too. The Capitol Police didn’t open fire because the crowd was unarmed. Supposedly. Doesn’t make them less dangerous though.
I'd try that with a military base, but I'm having the thought that being unarmed wouldn't stop getting shot at.

The closest i ever came to firing my weapon was a demonstration by Committee for Nuclear Disarmament trying to mob the tender. I had a shotgun at the fo'c'sle.
But the guys NEXT to me had a five-inch fire hose. They let the demonstrators climb a ways up the anchor chain, then put the hose on steady-stream and blasted them back into the Loch.
But if such non-lethal "lesser means" fail, or are not available, there's nothing differentiating armed and unarmed intruders.
