McConnell: Blocking SC Nomination 'About A Principle, Not A Person'

It was about a principle: the principle of what gives his agenda power.

It was about a principle: The principle of putting the right wing in absolute power.

Either way, it's clearly not about serving the people of the United States and upholding the Constitutional Rights of those citizens.

In 2007, then Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer said the Senate would not consider anymore Supreme Court nominees from President Bush. A year before the 2008 election. Remember the howls of outrage from the media? Me, neither.

you're right. that definitely makes it ok for mcconnell to do it now.

some of us adults are capable of thinking schumer shouldn't do it either.

Did you think that in 2007? Or have you had an election-year conversion? Anyway, the President nominates and the Senate confirms. It’s always been up to the Senate leader whether a nominee gets a vote.

At least Schumer in 2007 is consistent with Schumer in 2020.

"Whataboutism" is not a logical argument.

Are you trying to justify the hypocrisy of McConnell and his supporters?

at the age of 28 in 2007 i don't recall even paying attention to any of this since i had just moved across the country and was trying settle myself in the northwest. however, i totally agree with you that the prez in power should be able to nominate and the senate should confirm. since that's now gone out the window i think mcconnell should be consistent with his reasoning for blocking obamas pick.

As a review:

Number of actual Republican SCOTUS nominees obstructed by Democrats, so as not to have a floor vote: 0
Number of actual Democrat SCOTUS nominees obstructed by Republicans, so as not to even have a Committee Hearing: 1

The Dems need to block any nominee because "turnabout is fair play" is a higher moral calling than the shit shoveled (in this case, often it runs the other direction) by Mitch.

Any hypocrisy of words or ideas from the Dems is NOTHING compared to the score that McConnell got over on them.

Once the score is settled a fresh start can begin.

Turnabout is fair play, barring actual violence, is one hundred percent supported.

Then McConnell shouldn’t bullshit me like it’s about the “principle”. Who is really his audience for all the bullshit?
