More celebrities passing

One of my colleagues had, I'm told, a full on emotional moment in front of their class when someone texted them the news about Dolly.

On WaPo yesterday, I wasn't the only one who mentioned that the wrong 80 year old had died. I was doing volunteer work when the manager stopped by and told us that Dolly had died, an amazing woman who wrote far more songs than I realized and was engaged in many more genres of music than I knew. I might have to learn more about her music since I've been ignorant about so much of it. Ari Melber dedicated half of his show yesterday to Dolly. Sometimes we don't fully appreciate someone until they're gone.

So true. The wrong 80 year old died. God took the one with smaller boobs.

I wanted to add that if you've never seen or want to watch it again, you can buy a digital copy of the hilarious movie "Nine to Five", starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Below is a summary. We've seen it before but last night we purchased the digital copy for 5 bucks and we will watch it tonight.

9 to 5 (titled Nine to Five in the opening credits) is a 1980 American comedy film directed by Colin Higgins, who wrote the screenplay with Patricia Resnick, and starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton in her film debut, Dabney Coleman, Elizabeth Wilson, and Sterling Hayden. It tells the story of three working women (played by Fonda, Tomlin, and Parton) who live out their fantasies of getting even with and overthrowing their company's autocratic, "sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot" vice president (played by Coleman).

The film grossed over $103.3 million.[2] As a star vehicle for Parton—already established as a successful musician—it launched her permanently into mainstream popular culture. A television series based on the film ran for five seasons in the 1980s, and a musical stage adaptationwith new songs written by Parton opened on Broadway in 2009.

I can't grasp the whole 3,000 songs thing.

Parton was a rare, close to universally beloved celebrity.
I guess a certain segment of the population didn’t know she helped fund the research that led to the development of the mRNA COVID vaccine.
She donated $1mil, which is great, but a drop in the bucket in terms of research funding.

She spent more than half a billion dollars on charitable spending over her career. Almost no one knew anything about it.

Now Tim Curry is dead, also at 80. Do we know another 80-year old who keeps on going like the goddamned Energizer bunny even as he destroys the country? Why yes, yes I think we do.

Clearly there is no God.
Or we just really fucked up and God is withdrawing the angels he sent to our cursed nation.
