MSNBC Sent Fake NSA Documents - Dirty Tricks

Today, Friday 7-06-17, I was watching Rachel Maddow.

People here probably remember the story where a 25 year old contractor, Reality Leigh Winner, got arrested for smuggling out an NSA document and sending it to a media outlet, The Intercept. She was caught because the printer fingerprinted the document.

She was arrested and 2 days later The Intercept published.

A few days later, somebody sent a purported NSA secret document to Rachel Maddow. Something didn't look right so it was carefully examined. It was a faked cut and paste job, including some of the same watermarks in the Intercept document. Hmmmmm. Somebody is ratfucking with MSNBC. Who? Don't know yet. But Rachel assures us with a big smile, they are working on it.

So who could be doing this? Russia? Somebody in the administration? Some dirty trick playing third party? Why? Possible to send a bad document, expose it as a fraud and bring harm to MSNBC's credibility. An attempt to destroy Rachel Maddow like Dan Rather. This document was created sometime after Ms. Winner was arrested but before The Intercept published their version.

This is beyond fake news. Apparently somebody is putting a lot of effort into this.

The alt-right has a hard on for getting Maddow's show cancelled, in retaliation for O'Liely's cancellation which they blame on the left.
 
One thing is now certain, somebody is trying to destroy left wing media with dirty tricks. But this take down by Rachel Maddow and MSNBC will has sent a warning to all oter media outlets on the left to distrust things like this. Fake news indeed. From the right.

I disagree. Get it out in the open immediately. CNN already took a needless fall. MSNBC just backstopped here and prevented another black eye that would be abused by Trump... and it helps to prevent others from being too quick on the draw with evidence.

No need to disclose means and methods - she could have simply told the public that they had detected an attempt to bait them with fake news, and called CNN to tell them how the forgery was detected instead of broadcasting it to the fraudsters.
Funny thing is that it would be so easy to bait Breitbart and Faux News with more Pizzagates, and no rethuglican would bat an eyelash.

I don't think she could have. Trump calls things fake news and the trumpettes believe him, without any evidence. If they just said 'fake news' without explaining at least some of how they know, it'd look like (or someone would say it looked like) they just were scared to run with a story and copied Trump's tactics.

If they were going to reveal the bait and that they knew it was bait, they needed to explain at least some of what made them hesitate. "And for those of you playing at home, see how this was just a hamfisted copy/paste..." They may not have given all the facts. They may know who did this or who submitted it to them. Maybe they're waiting to see what else they might try to submit...
 
It's interesting that the fake NSA document showed up at MSNBC before it was made public knowledge, and before Winner's arrest. Rachel's' broadcast also explained that it seems the NSA knew exactly who had viewed that document and when, and this and the printer signature is how they caught Reality Leigh Winner. I assumed that when Winner took the document initially that it was to alert the media to what she thought was damning proof to Russian-Trump collusion. But, other than her arrest we have no known motive as to why she did it. Now we have a fraud document using the stolen document as a template, that showed up before the original document became public knowledge.

What if she didn't steal the document to point the finger at Russia/Trump collusion, but in order to use the document to frame various news agencies. Also, the original document was leaked to who? The Intercept of Glenn Greenwald fame. Interesting.

Ms Winner was vocal in her opposition to President Trump on social media, using the hashtag #NeverMyPresident in one post and an expletive in reference to his plans for a border wall.

The BBC quotes this as

Once again this document leaked to discredit a democratically elected government (likeable or not) does not seem to provide anything conclusive. However to the intellectually lame and the mentally crippled who have set views will take this as a piece of holy script

We have a government in the UK which many of us don't like but the election is over so going to work and getting the cat's favourite tinned fish is more important but we can still campaign democratically for change. In the US a lot of people are still moaning about the elections and MNSBC is simply a cog in the wheel of the COMCAST cartel

The cable company has won the Golden Poo award for the second time, excelling in awfulness in an industry dominated by companies that treat their customers to a never-ending pile of crap.

There again MNSBC does a lot of its heavy lifting in news media.
