This is just another riot started by excessive police violence and desire to control people with force.

How do you figure this? What timeline are you looking at that supports your assertion that excessive police force caused this riot?

All you gotta do is put a few trouble makers in to break a few windows then the cops scream "riot" and start throwing people around with force.

They are a bunch of thugs that are not wanted anymore. Many Portlanders (including myself) joined them in the beginning. Many of us brought our kids. But then they turned nasty. Started breaking shit for no reason. Started beating up people. They moved the protests to night. They started taunting people. Wanted to taunt teachers and students (young kids). I can tell you as a Portlander that the public has turned on them. They are trying to wreck one of the best and most livable and liberal cities in the country. These are the terms of the job. Some jobs are dangerous and might get you killed. some are just dirty and nasty... and some are a cakewalk.
If you are fortunate to be able to choose your vocation, choose wisely, If you are not able to choose, then your right to cakewalk through life does not exist and your job might end up being a little dirty (or a lot) or a little dangerous (or a lot).

If a cop is too scared to not get shot, then they are too much of a pussy to be a cop.
If you can't leave the house every day to go to work knowing and accepting that it is possible you will not come home, then you are not a cop - you are just pretending to be one until things get real.

Cops scream "stop resisting" whenever they want to apply more force than is justified.
Cops scream "gun" when there is ANYTHING in a suspects hands, so as to justify shooting.
Cops scream.. they are fearful people, lately... so screaming, "riot" and shooting rubber bullets and teargas is just par for the course.

You certainly have zero evidence than any of the rioters involved in recent Portland rioting are right-wingers. And no, being white is not evidence of being right. There are many white #BLM and Antifa supporters and in Portland there are not that many black people anyway, so of course vast majority of left wing rioters will be white.

The problem is that often these families get millions even when the shooting was completely justified and police did nothing wrong. And even when the police did something wrong, the amount they get is ridiculously high and in no relationships to any actual damages.

Thus, the solution would be to pass laws
1. limiting civil awards to a reasonable amount based on actual damages. Juries pulling random astronomical numbers out of their ass should not be allowed. Having a thug son or father who gets shot by police should not be a ticket to incredible riches for families and their hearse-chasing shysters.

2. protecting cities and counties from any liability if their officers did nothing wrong. Example: Korryn Gaines case. She, a "sovereign citizen" who thinks US laws don't apply to her, threatened police with a shotgun. Officers were found to be justified in shooting her, but nevertheless a jury awarded her $38 million (!), when it should have awarded her zero dollars and attorney fees to the county because her greedy family filed a frivolous lawsuit.

Do you think the police should juts let suspects shoot them without being able to defend themselves?
I do not care if a perp gets shot before he or she is able to shoot at police or attack police and take their gun (which happens fairly often and is why "unarmed" does not mean "not a threat").

These are the terms of the job. Some jobs are dangerous and might get you killed.

True, but those doing those jobs have the right to minimize the risk to them and others. In the case of police, by sometimes using deadly force.
Deadly force may be more frequent in the US due to a lot more guns in civilian hands than most places, but in absolute terms it is rare. About 1000 people killed by police vs. more than 10 million arrests and even more sub-arrest police interactions. Really, if you are not attacking police or refusing to drop your gun your chances of getting shot by police are infinitesimal.

We need police. And so we need people to want to become police officers. Saying that police should just let themselves be shot by perps is not a good way to ensure recruitment.

If a cop is not willing to use lethal force where warranted is putting him or herself, his or her colleagues and also the wider civilian population in undue risk.

If you can't leave the house every day to go to work knowing and accepting that it is possible you will not come home, then you are not a cop - you are just pretending to be one until things get real.

There is always that possibility. Police are asked to accept a certain level of risk. What they should not be asked is to accept unnecessary risks just to avoid shooting some perps.
If it is either a dead officer or a dead criminal, it should be dead criminal.

The thing is zero police shooting means basically zero policing. Zero policing = more criminal shooting.

We have already seen that BLM protests decrease police-caused deaths but increase total deaths by a much larger factor.
