Split New York City Mayoral Race

To notify a split thread.
Well, MAGAtards did try to push the narrative of Biden and Harris being commies sooo...
That's inaccurate as well. They are not communists.
But Biden certainly governed far more left than his previous reputation.
And while fauxgressives pretend that Kamala was some kind of centrist, she was one of the most left-wing Senators and when she ran in 2019 she embraced decidedly left-wing ideas like banning fracking and offshore drilling.
And yes, I'm very much aware that Derec is not a Trump supporter.
No, I am not.
He's just consistently critical of Democrats of a certain...stripe shall we say. Big difference.
Just because I am not a Trump supporter does not mean that I should not criticize DSA Marxists like Mamdani who are engineering a hostile takeover of the Democratic Party. Just look at other DSA people who are getting in: Adam Hamawy - an Islamist who was an acolyte of the Blind Sheikh, or Avila Chevalier, a convert to Islam who co-founded a pro-Hamas student group at Columbia and who does not think anybody should be deported ever.

No, your whole argument was just "they're not afraid of Mamdani. Therefore they're a Marxist". Get over it.
It's not about Patooka not being scared, but about his dismissive attitude toward evidence that Mamdani is a Marxist. Which only makes sense if he agrees with what Mandani was spouting there.

Or, maybe, people have different opinions than you do about what they should be scared about.

I know Occam's Razor is far too advanced of an idea for you, though.

I know Occam's Razor is far too advanced of an idea for you, though.
How do you apply that here?
Surely, proper application is that the most parsimonious explanation to why Mamdani used Marxist language like "seize the means of production" is that he is Marxist. The most parsimonious explanation to why DSA has Marxist language in their constitution is that they are Marxist.

Too many people are seduced by Mamdani's smile and promises of free busses and frozen rents to look deeper into him.

Maybe they'll even start eating rice with their hands just like him.
I've never eaten rice with my hands before.
Fried chicken, French fries, lots of other stuff. But never rice.

Maybe a fun tiktok or whatever thing would be eating food with your fingers and posting about it!
Tom

ETA ~maybe a competition, eating ethnic foods with your fingers. I'll take lasagna!~

Maybe they'll even start eating rice with their hands just like him.
I knew it. You had nothing to say about your misapplication of Occam's Razor, so you go back to something that, while gauche on Rafiq Zohran's part, has nothing to do with what we were talking about.

And yet you feel compelled to reply to a joke.

Eviction is violence apparently

Hilarious. And Mamdani standing there with that smug look on his face. Peak trolling.

Reminds me also of the attempts by fauxgressive Dems like Cori Bush to keep extending the COVID eviction moratorium.

He also does not want landlords to be able to require both credit and income information from prospective tenants.

I think all these restrictions are a ploy toward his end goal of expropriating landlords, as befitting his Marxist ideology.

How do you stay so well informed while hiding under your bed?

The speaker in the video states that we should "no longer tolerate the violence of evictions as 'business as usual'." The claim that she is equating all evictions with violence is a logical leap. Grammatically and logically, the phrase "the violence of [X]" points to a property or occurrence associated with [X], not an absolute identity statement (Eviction = Violence). For instance, referencing "the violence of New York City" simply acknowledges that violence happens there; it doesn't mean the city itself is defined entirely as violence.

Likewise, evictions frequently involve literal violence—such as a landlord relying on armed law enforcement to physically remove someone. Whether this specific speaker extends the definition of violence to include the structural harm of forcing families out into the cold is an open question, but her actual words do not establish the strict equivalence being claimed here.

Since this thread centers on Mamdani, it is far more productive to evaluate this statement in the context of his actual housing platform. Before this point in the thread, I wasn't entirely familiar with his specific framework, so I pulled a summary of his core housing pillars from AI:

Gemini said:
  • "Good Cause" Eviction: This is the cornerstone of his housing agenda. It legally prevents landlords from evicting tenants or refusing to renew a lease without a justifiable cause (such as non-payment of rent) and restricts predatory rent hikes designed to force tenants out.
  • Protecting Tenant Unions: His administration pushed to legally recognize tenant unions to address power imbalances. This explicitly protects renters from harassment or retaliatory evictions when they organize with their neighbors.
  • Restricting Eviction Avenues: He supports expanding the circumstances under which tenants can withhold rent for severe building violations (like black mold or lack of heat) without facing immediate eviction, and reducing the sheer volume of eviction cases brought to Housing Court.

Let's at least discuss the merits of actual policy rather than relying on a Simpsons-style "Ha-ha! She said eviction equals violence!" sneer.
