He was asked about the phrase, and he defended it as something innocuous.I'm not sure he ever said that. Derec said he said that but I have seen no proof of it.
I explained why his apologetics does not hold water in post #2,178.

To be fair, we do need effective governance, and those parts of the democratic platform, maybe we retain. He got plenty of new votes, Cuomo did get a significant minority, so maybe we should ask if Cuomo has any platform planks he wants to maintain.Basically, Mamdhani built a diverse coalition and brought out a wave of new voters. Good luck in the general! The last thing we need are the creeps Cuomo and Adams and all the stinking rot they represent.
Your explanation does not constitute what he actually said. Why does it seem that you are trying to avoid posting what Mamdani actually said?He was asked about the phrase, and he defended it as something innocuous.I'm not sure he ever said that. I was about ten years old when my mother explained her "pendulum" theory of politics to me. She and I are both centrists, but when the pendulum has swung too far to the right, we must push leftward as hard as we can, hoping to get back to the center.
For this reason I am delighted at the victory of Zohran Mamdani even if he is leftier than I. I am disappointed that some Democratic leaders are not supporting him, and may even seek to defeat him in November.
Robert Reich -- one of my heroes -- certainly supports him. You would see that in this video except that I've set the time to skip to the midway point where we hear Reich's EXTREMELY prescient remarks from 31 years ago.
Robert Reich is a centrist compared to the rest of the world. And I believe most of the people of the US are to the left of where you think they are.The "pendulum theory" has a lot of merit. However, if you push too far to the left you overshoot again, leading to a swing to the right. The goal should be to dampen the amplitude, not increase it by pushing hard.I was about ten years old when my mother explained her "pendulum" theory of politics to me. I think he would be a disaster if he wins. And he will damage the Democratic brand in the long run.For this reason I am delighted at the victory of Zohran Mamdani even if he is leftier than I. Dems have been moving left even before 2016, but TACO's surprise victory accelerated that trend, leading to Sergeant Sandy (I know how much you love this moniker!) and her Squad mates not only getting elected, but, in addition to their regimental commander Colonel Bernie Sanders, becoming in many ways the face of the Democratic Party.
I think this lurch to the left was the foundation for Biden Administration moving to the Left, especially on spending, and its subsequent lack of popularity. And that led directly to TACO 2.0. And now Dems are poised to repeat the same mistake.
Above you said:
... but then ...She and I are both centrists,
Those two statements are not consistent, given how far to the left Mr. Reich is.Robert Reich -- one of my heroes -- certainly supports him.
Yeah, but in this part of the world, we have these new inventions called utensils. Forks are most common, but there are also chopsticks if he prefers.Yes. And in some parts of the world, it is the traditional and acceptable way to eat rice.
In this part of the world, in Laotian, and Indian restaurants, I’ve seen people use their fingers to eat rice.Yeah, but in this part of the world, we have these new inventions called utensils. You know, I think I quite agree with that, and it's an interesting way of considering things. Though, the problem of our age is that a third of the country seems to think we've spent the last twenty years on a sharp leftward swing, while another third thinks we've spent the better part of the decade falling into fascism.I was about ten years old when my mother explained her "pendulum" theory of politics to me. She and I are both centrists, but when the pendulum has swung too far to the right, we must push leftward as hard as we can, hoping to get back to the center.

I wish I knew about this as a kid. I used to justify my bad table manners by telling my mom that they do it in other counties. Most notably, burping* and slurping soup and telling her that in Japan, its a compliment to the chef. This nekulturny is really eating rice with his fingers?

How dare you demonize black coffee, what are you, a racist?Incidentally, before sitting down to write this, I grabbed a coffee from another halal cart. I paid a buck instead of the $3.76 I would have had to pay for the same coffee at the white-bread corporate Starbucks one black away.
There might be. Sayfullo Saipov, a Diversity Immigrant Visa program recipient who drove his "truck of peace" into people in NYC murdering 8, is Uzbek.Could it be that NY has large uzbek emigrant population?
