Split New York City Mayoral Race

To notify a split thread.
I saw him interviewed by Jon Stewart and he was great. He has a wonderful sense of humor and was laughing about all the assholes who have accused him of so many horrible things. He is very charismatic and bright. Good you get to vote for him. We need more politicians with his courage and willingness to help the poor and the middle class, instead of the wealthy assholes who are now ruining the country.

Meanwhile, I mentioned on another thread that a stupid nurse I worked with briefly had posted on Facebook that she's praying Mamdani will lose. Stupid Trump supporter. Doesn't she realize that is Jesus were around, he'd vote for Mamdani since the two of them have a lot in common, even if Jesus was a mythological character. I just don't get such stupidity.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * In the spirit of George Carlin and Christopher Hitchens, the son of a former Catholic nun and a Franciscan brother delivers a deeply irreverent and biblically correct takedown of far-right Christian hatred—a book for believers, atheists, agnostics, and anyone who’ll ever have to deal with a Christian nationalist.

The author of that book was on one of the late night shows a few weeks ago. I've thought abut getting it for my kindle, but there are so many books I'd like to read so not sure if I'll get that one.

Another Mamdani puff piece, this time focusing on his Islamic faith. And too many on this supposedly freethinker forum are eating it up with a spoon. SMH.
Btw, Mamdani made up a story about his aunt not daring ride the subway after 9/11 because of supposed "islamophobia".

I do not think he is very bright, because otherwise he would not espouse cockamamie ideas like freezing rents. He also had an academically less than rigorous major in college (Africana Studies). He has also been, from all accounts, a pretty unimpressive state legislator.

He reminds me a lot of Trump. Both were born on 3rd base and think they hit a home run. Both are populists and both are charismatic to most in their base. Both are beholden to Qatari money. And they both pretend to be less radical in order to win elections - notice how things like "seizing the means of production" and "abolishing private property", which he espoused only a few years ago, are absent from his campaign rhetoric.

I do not think his policies will help the "poor and the middle class". A lot will also depend on how steadfast Hochul is, because many of his proposals require assent from Albany. Unfortunately, she may fear a primary challenge from the Left and thus be inclined to roll over and submit.

You don't have to be a Trump supporter to reject Mamdani, both his socialism and his hatred of Israel.
I don't harbor much hope that Cuomo (whom I don't like much either, but he is definitely the lesser weevil here) will pull out another Miracle on the Hudson. The hope is now that Mr. Cardamom winning with <<50% will rob him of a clear mandate and thus encourage Albany to resist. I'd be ecstatic at <40%, and reasonably happy with <45%.

Why do you think Jesus would vote for Mamdani? And which Jesus do you mean? The Second Person of the Trinity or the Judean carpenter? Or the hypostatic union of the two?

Two new polls released on Thursday showed Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani maintaining or expanding his sizable lead in the New York City mayoral race, as the two other major candidates strive for a late surge in the final days of the campaign.

A poll by Emerson College showed 50 percent of likely voters supporting Mr. Mamdani, the Democratic front-runner, who has led the field since his upset victory in the June primary. His main rival, former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, had the support of 25 percent of likely voters, a few points ahead of Curtis Sliwa, the Republican nominee, at 21 percent.

The other poll, by Marist University, showed Mr. Mamdani with a 16-point lead and as the only candidate viewed favorably by a majority of likely voters. The poll also showed a closer race in a hypothetical matchup between Mr. Cuomo and Mr. Mamdani, with Mr. Cuomo trailing by just seven points.

On Wednesday, Mr. Cuomo and Mr. Sliwa campaigned on Staten Island, looking to attract Republicans and independents, and Mr. Mamdani traveled to the Bronx to court voters who cast their ballots for Donald J. Trump last year. On Thursday, the candidates — and voters — are facing rain and blustery winds, with up to two inches of rain in Manhattan. though the campaigns said the weather would not dissuade them.

It is not a puff piece, it is an opinion piece.
It's an opinion piece where the subject was puffed up. In other words, a puff piece.
By a Muslim writer who describes the exhaustion and humiliation that Muslims face from bigots.
By a Muslim writer who sees so-called "Islamophobia" behind every rock.
Of course that means nothing to you.
No. An MSNBC puff piece celebrating Mamdani's Islamic faith means nothing to me.

But let's look at this:
Zohran Mamdani 'not an American at all,' his mother Mira Nair claims in resurfaced 2013 interview
Yahoo said:
Nair claimed in a 2013 interview with Indian outlet Hindustan Times that Mamdani is completely culturally Indian, and that they are not Western at all.
New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani was described as "not American at all" by his mother, Mira Nair, in a resurfaced interview from 2013.
[...]
"He is very much us. He is not an American at all," said Nair. "He was born in Uganda, raised between India and America. He is at home in many places. He thinks of himself as a Ugandan and as an Indian."

There is ... nothing bigoted about recognizing that not all cultures are equivalent.
You're becoming a parody of the right wing.
If you really think all cultures are equivalent, then I would have described you as a parody of a left-winger, except that this attitude is unironically embraced by the contemporary Left. Y'all are beyond parody.
