During their private White House meeting on Thursday, Mr. Obama walked his successor through the duties of running the country, and Mr. Trump seemed surprised by the scope, said people familiar with the meeting. Trump aides were described by those people as unaware that the entire presidential staff working in the West Wing had to be replaced at the end of Mr. Obama’s term.
After meeting with Mr. Trump, the only person to be elected president without having held a government or military position, Mr. Obama realized the Republican needs more guidance. He plans to spend more time with his successor than presidents typically do, people familiar with the matter said.

Oh my lord

Obama is gonna have to be Trump's babysitter. Good job voting America

Let me predict now that not only will Trump not run for a second term, the chances that he pulls a Sarah Palin and resigns before his first term is over are not insignificant.

Maybe President Obama could run the country for Trump for the full 4 years? I'd be ok with that.

Yeah, because putting Mike Pence in charge is really an attractive option.

Just to clarify matters, a prediction is not a wish!

It's good to see the news. I receive Washington Post newsfeeds but when it came to the Elections they were all biased against Trump so I would expect its take on this.

The Goals of any Leader or manager have to be put into operation. I believe any good leader can soon find out how the channels of communication and action lie. This eventually will be regardless of how much time was spent to show him/her the ropes.

The best way is the two parties should put their knives away till the next election and work together as best as possible.

Maybe Hilary can run again; why not as there is no limit of age for her or Trump. Perhaps things will not be so hostile apart from the usual blaming of each other.

It's even worse than that. MSNBC was reporting last night that several government departments including the Pentagon, the CIA, etc are standing by to work with Trump's transition team. The problem? They haven't heard ANYTHING from the Trump's team. So, they placed some calls. Their calls have not been returned.

Hey, he only has about 4000 jobs to fill, plus his cabinet before his inauguration. and as Athena mentioned in her article, Trump's terrific transition team didn't even know they were supposed to replace all the White House staffers - you know, something someone with a Jr. High civics education knows.

His campaign was a shit show. His transition is a cluster fuck. Yet somehow, with a combination of Republican extremist insiders and racist know nothings, he's going to lead our country. Drain the swamp my ass, more like fill it with raw sewage. Our country is so fucked.

Maybe they believed Linda Tripp when she said HER firing was vindictive?

Or maybe Trump was looking forward to walking through all the political appointees to say 'You're fired!' himself?

What events in the past eight years would indicate that Republicans are capable of doing this?
If anything Obama has been too eager to reach across the aisle, only to have his hand slapped time and again. These GOP nutters have set themselves up to be unable to cooperate lest they be seen by their rabid base to be cooperating with the enemy.

Sent from my mobile, please forgive any grammar or spelling issues.

That story seems legit. And Caitlin MacNeal seems like a pretty good "journalist".

I agree that Democrats in general and Obama in particular have been too high road in recent times. However, people very soon will be looking back to Obama's presidency as 'the good old days.' Trump will turn him into our Reagan.

There's also the off chance that Obama can personally influence Trump in this period. The man seems very susceptible to be influenced, and that's something that Obama is very good at.

The republicans will never put their knives away. If you don't know this you are brain dead.

Here is what I think. The public voted him in. Okay. Obama and everyone who opposed Trump should just stand back and let the country go to shit and if the public gets hurt it just gets hurt. It will teach the public to not be so stupid in the future.

People re-elected Bush 43 despite his obvious incompetence and damage he did to the country. The public will not learn.

That would be probably the worst possible thing that the Democratic Party could do. If this election didn't prove to them how intrinsically bad a candidate Clinton was then they don't deserve to get any votes in the next election. Clinton was a bad candidate in 2008 and she was a worse one in 2016.
