The reef has looked after itself for hundreds of thousands of years, through both ice ages and warming periods just fine. But I take it you're of the opinion that by stopping Adani mines and other wealth and jobs creation developments are going to destroy the Great Barrier Reef.
King Canute also tried to stop the tides but failed miserably.

The Great Barrier Reef first began to grow about 18 million years ago. Since this time, various geological events, such as Ice Ages and low seawater levels have interrupted reef growth. The reefs we see today have grown on top of older reef platforms during the last 8000 years – since the last Ice Age.

Canute obviously didn't have Donald Trump's stable genius.
We should take Donald's golden throne to the water's edge, strap him in it and wait for high tide. That would save the reef, and solve a whole host of other problems.

Actually Canute was not trying to stop the tides, but demonstrating quite the opposite - that even Kings could not command nature, only god could. He did this because he was sick of his fawning courtiers.
