They laugh at things that validate their view of the world, rather than things that challenge it.

And they don't see a qualitative difference between the two.

It's the difference between "Hey, these guys were going to have a convention on Global Warming, but the college that was going to host it closed because of snow!"

"Ever wonder what your dog named you?"
