I think this is very insulting...to Julius Caesar

Two protesters interrupted a controversial production of Julius Caesar on Friday, which features a Trump-like character in the role of Caesar, currently being put on by New York's Public Theater.

"Stop the normalization of political violence against the right! This is unacceptable," one protester yelled as she walked toward the stage, according to video she posted to Periscope. Security was called as the second protester yelled at the crowd, calling them "Nazis" and accusing members of the crowd of being like Joseph Goebbels.

The play, which runs through Sunday at Central Park's Delacorte Theatre, tells the story of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar but with contemporary costumes and its main character, played by Gregg Henry, sporting yellow hair, a Trump-style suit and long red tie. This version of the play, directed by the Public Theater's artistic director Oskar Eustis, also includes the character's assassination but this time it's the Trump figure who dies.

"Shame on Kathy Griffin and shame on all of you for promoting political violence against Donald Trump," she was heard yelling as she was led away. The two protesters posted their own videos of the event live online, and viewers in the audience captured the incident as well.

Wait... Doesn't Caesar always die in "Julius Caesar"

I do agree with Pot8o... This is rather demeaning to both the real life Caesar and Shakespear's version. Hopefully this was just a marketing choice because as an artistic choice it's quite disagreeable.

So apparently (I have not seen a firm validation) this was planned in advance by Ezra Levant of Rebel Media. Four hours before it happened he registered the freelaura.com domain name.

She looks like a living stereotype

She went on lunatic cult leader Stefan Molyneux's show and in the comments below there was a guy holding his own against the right wing SJW snowflake hypocrites. The guy said he is right wing himself.

Ha, he had over 150 replies many of them smacking down the hypocrites and how it is gone. Fuck Molyneux.

Wait... Doesn't Caesar always die in "Julius Caesar"

Spoiler alert!

But it's a good thing the left doesn't ever condone this sort of disruptive protest, so now they can criticize this without a whiff of hypocrisy.

Weren't a lot of Bill's plays aimed at contemporary political figures, hidden in historical or fictional settings and characters?
Are they just mad that it's too blatant this time?
Or are they thinking Trump would make a better MacBeth?

It is a shame that political violence is encouraged in such a sick way.
Cathy Griffiths adopted an Al Qaeda pose with a severed head then spoke like a victim when forced to apologise.
Now we have another encouragement of violence.
Madonna dreamed of blowing up the White House.

The US is a democracy and it may not be politically correct. So those with Butt-hurt should take the soothing ointment to try and get over it

It's Ok, it's all on a symbolic level. Perhaps on too many symbolic levels but still.

But I agree with poteighto, it's your typical character assassination.

In actual life, though, I'd say the (wholly symbolic) murder is being perpetrated using the technique of the thousand cuts and in front of a much larger audience than any theater in New York could possibly accommodate. So Shakespeare was historically wrong if only by anticipation.

But Falstaff does also come to mind.

Do the right-wing illiterati know that there's a long history of Caesar being represented by contemporary leaders in the production of this play? Were this Obama instead would they have their knickers in a twist - or would we be hearing about machinegunning the 'sub-human mongrel'?

The alt-right has long been campaigning for the abolition of political correctness. Now they seem to be all for it - but only for others.
Fucking hypocritical morons.

Yeah, like when Trump called on his minions to assassinate Hillary, if she won the election. Or are you going to dishonestly assert that he didn't imply that, but that this play is implying that Trump should be assassinated?

Ben Shapiro has been slamming the protest very hard. Making good points.

When the right whines ad nauseum about how awful "political correctness" is, then wants others to be politically correct...
The hypocrisy is stunning.

I thought that perhaps this was in bad taste, a la Griffin style, but in a little research, it seems they've done many presidents of the past. Including Obama, Lincoln, Cheney, etc. The Atlantic had an article that was apropos.

I disagree with Ben Shapiro a lot, but the guy is usually consistent.

If you find hypocrisy stunning, then I can't believe you've been paying attention to politics for very long...

Touché.
Maybe I don't want to admit to being as jaded as I actually am.
Perhaps "disgusting" would have been a better adjective.

I think with Kathy Griffin doing an Al Qaeda, this was bad taste.

In the movie Kingsmen, an Obama-like president had his head blown up.

And as mentioned, they've already done Obama as Caesar. They've even done Hillary Clinton.

Caesar is assassinated in all the versions, not just the Trump one.
