Religious Views On Science

As I have said before, DLH is probably lonely and we pass for what he thinks are friends.

Still noting on the topic and questions I asked him.

His assertion that science and religion are the same is not new on the forum.

The argument goes both religion and science are based on faith, therefore religion is as valid as sconce.

My guess is DLH is toxic to be around in person.

I never thought of you as the enemy, I just thought of your fake ideology as stupid. You think my God is stupid. No problem.
Nobody here thinks your God is stupid; We know your God is fictional, and think that you are stupid for not grokking this obvious fact.

You're right. Let me rephrase that then. You think the idea, the concept of my God, which you think is fictional, is stupid.
Well, no; It's just a part of the rich tapestry of fiction. It's a fantasy character, like Gandalf the Grey, or Thanos, or Superman.

People have been imagining super powerful beings for longer than we have had written records. Fiction is entertaining, and can make learning about the subtle rules of society easy and fun. We populate it with exemplary heroes and villains; Even superheroes and supervillains.

But if you go around claiming that Superman is a real individual, and expecting him to rescue you if you get into trouble, or to interact with your life or death in any way whatsoever, then you are being stupid.

Same with Jehovah. A very dated superhero, from a culture with norms that don't work well at all in a post industrial world of many billions of people, armed with nuclear missiles and able to communicate around the world in a few milliseconds, and travel around it in a few hours.

People who believe fictional characters to be real are commonplace. Loads of tourists travel to London to see where Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson lived - some of them unaware that neither ever lived outside of fiction. The actors who play soap opera villains get abusive mail from folks who think the characters are real. Those people are stupid, too.

Fiction isn't stupid. Thinking that your favorite stories or characters are real is stupid.

Says the guy who is obviously furious that we don’t take his idiotic nonsense seriously.

No. You just think that.

You’re obviously extremely angry. It’s why you post your nonsense with insult-laden vitriol.
As you said, you do you, we’ll do us. So why are you still posting?

Because I enjoy it. It's a nice break from working on . . .

And yet you just got through saying atheists should ignore your nonsense, yet here you are promoting it.

No, I'm not angry because I don't involve myself in the ideological fixation of religion or politics.

And what I said was that atheists should ignore religious nonsense, like Judaism, Christianity, etc. They should, in fact, ignore God because the only reason not to is ideological, not theological. The message of Jesus wasn't meant for unbelievers, in fact he states as much when his disciples asked him why he taught in parables. Riddles the unbelievers didn't get. The modern day practice of the idiot Christian to convert unbelievers is just as stupid as their pagan adopted teachings like the immortal soul, hell, trinity, cross, heaven, Christmas and Easter.

By the way - back on topic. Pathway Machine has a new article on the subject of science. The history of science!

That is one hell of a personal attack. Like, completely vicious to someone you don't really know, and for no reason. What the hell is wrong with you?

That's what ideological fixation does. I used to behave in the same way to atheists and theists that don't agree with me. It doesn't matter if it's God, science, political or social, or even trivial. It's a natural human response in our society. Of course, just because it's natural doesn't mean we have to give into it.

I disagree. I got some “message of Jesus” as a wee tyke, and that message of peace, love and warm fuzzies has stuck with me right up to today. That, despite realizing at a single digit age that the stories were illustrative bullshit, magic wasn’t real and there is no sky-daddy.
Jesus’ message, to the extent that is has any value, has at least as much value to atheists, agnostics, believers in other fairy tales and unbelievers of all stripes, as to dyed in the wool Xtian believers. The latter actually tend to pervert that value, converting it to weaponry of both defensive and offensive varieties. (See SLH posts!)
