Rush Limbaugh Argues For Secession: 'There Cannot Be A Peaceful Coexistence'

Suddenly Rush Limbaugh doubts two different outlooks can exist in the same country while ignoring that he has stoked the fires of hate and division for decades.

Here's where it begins (transcript courtesy of Media Matters):

"I thought you were asking me something else when you said, “Can we win?” I thought you meant, “Can we win the culture, can we dominate the culture.” I actually think -- and I’ve referenced this, I’ve alluded to this a couple of times because I’ve seen others allude to this -- I actually think that we’re trending toward secession. I see more and more people asking what in the world do we have in common with the people who live in, say, New York? What is there that makes us believe that there is enough of us there to even have a chance at winning New York? Especially if you’re talking about votes."

For 240 years or so we've had plenty in common with one another, or at least we DID until the likes of Rush Limbaugh came along and began pointing fingers at "The Other." Then suddenly it's time to secede because God knows we couldn't get along with New Yorkers.

For you, it isn't enough that your side win, the other side must lose. You don't just look forward to you living under laws you like, you look forward to people who disagree with you living under laws you like and they don't like. It isn't enough to win, everyone else must lose.

So if they do secede, I'm pretty sure you'll be leading the charge to force them back so that you can do your own new modern version of reconstruction on them. Force them to do enact every law you want and they don't want. It's all about forcing others to do things your way for people like you.

If you yourself have never experienced any other way of thinking but tribalism and animal brain social dominance, then how would you recognize anything else? They literally cannot understand how group identity could not be the most important thing to fight for. They have no other prevailing principles besides tribalism and urge to dominate. Everything else is lip service.

Small government? We didn't actually mean that. We're fine with government overreach if it's us using power to punish outgroups.

Individual rights and freedoms? Not if you're brown or a woman.

Pro-life? Only fetuses because we can't put our money where our mouth is there, so it's a convenient means of pretending our world view is humane while we actively, purposefully, openly work hard to not help humans live outside of our in-group.

I'm for secession. Let them have Mississippi, Alabama, the Florida panhandle (I'm NOT giving up Disneyworld!), and I'll throw in the Dakotas.

With those states gone control of the Senate will shift. Also all those conservatives moving to the new confederacy will help a lot of elections as well. Plus we will get years of entertainment and sociological research as we watch the new country devolve into third world status. The bitter fighting when they try to establish their own tax system. Probably see their own civil war based on who is a 'true christian'. How long until they start to inquire about rejoining the US? or at least large numbers of people apply to regain US citizenship.

Well, of course letting them go would be the ethical thing to do. But they'd never stand for it, the martyrdom is the whole point. Just think about their sad faces if we just let them secede without any chance to shoot at the libs first? Even if it started peacefully, it would end in a war. Republican power is heavily congtingent on shows of strength through endless garland wars; they will invent a pretext if they have to, in order to get the war all their people are itching to fight.

Though if it didn't come to war...

Boy, what an amusing quagmire that would be in practice! If you thought Brexit was drawn-out, think about how confused things would get once the referendum is passed and Jeff Sessions and Ivanka Trump are tasked with explaining to a disappointed public that medicare came from the federal goverment and Texas has to have income taxes now if any of them are going to survive the year...

The Civil War was a sharp geographic split (at least if nearly-powerless blacks were ignored), but things are not so clean today. Hatred of blacks is one central theme of Trumpists, but states like Mississippi or Georgia can hardly secede from their blacks! (They can of course try to secede from a central government that attempts to protect blacks from hateful state governments. :-( )

With 48% of Michigan voting for Trump, and the Ds actually winning Georgia, it's no longer possible to think of our schism as following state boundaries. Violent civil strife is bad and getting worse, but I think there will be a mosaic of local conflicts. We've already seen White supremacists and their police allies invade cities governed by Ds.

Who is this "We" Lush is babbling about? Alabama? Mississippi? Many red states get a lot more money from Uncle sugar than they send in in taxes. Mississippi for example gets back about $2.57 for each $1 they pay in taxes. Without the largess of the blue states, those bad old blue donor states, such shit hole red states would soon devolve into failed states such as, say Venezuela. And wait until the first Hurricane strikes. No Uncle Sam to send large amounts of relief money. A lot of these red states, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, have low populations, and no large amounts of industry etc. Idaho has .... potatoes. Can they run an economy based on potatoes?

I heard a great quote the other day. People think that Trump never started a war. False. He's started the new American civil war. Both Trump and Rush and the people who support them are traitors. I'm starting to believe that we'd be better off without them.
